KB - wonderful news. Is Bridget as tired all the time as I am???? After 7:30 I am just pooped.
Rinnie - nope we aren't going to ask the sex of the babies. We told everyone that we don't want to know. We are going to do our best to wait and see what the dear Lord sends us. Do you think that we are crazy??

Hm...it's interesting about genetic testing-I was at my u/s today(I was so nervous in the morning ,that threw up for the first time!Which was very convincing that my babies alive since I did not have any m/s from the beginning) and they want us to meet with genetic counsel too(I'm 38).I don't know what to do.My DH doesn't want to hear about that and I...I just can't decide .Everything looked great on u/s,I guess they offer this to everybody 35+.

Marina - Most OB's advise the genetic testing to all women over the age of 35. And it's very advisable for the general health of the mother in addtion to finding out is something may be wrong with the child. We would not terminate any of the babies if we found a problem but there could be complications with childbirth and making sure that you delivered in the right hospital setting.
We did all of our IVF and follow-up at a major hospital in Philadelphia but after next week I return to my regular OB in a much smaller town in NJ. If there were any problems with any of the two babies we would want to make sure that we plan all the next steps including preparing ourselves for the possiblity of a special needs child.
We are just so so thankful that everything turned out good.
It's also so so important that get any type of testing done by only the best medical professionals that you can find. That lowers any risk greatly.

marina-they do suggest it for women over 35 but remember it's a suggestion. Ultimately it has to be your decision. Bridget is 37 and we are probably not going to do the 12 week nuchal test or amnio. Our OB was totally fine with that and said at the 20 week scan they do an anatomy scan where they can tell alot. It's much more accurate than anything at 12 weeks. There are alot of false positives with the early. For us, we think if it's not going to change what we do the 20 week is just fine. But ultimately everyone has a different viewpoint on it.

jerseygal Yep...you're crazy No...everybody does their own thing..whatever feels right. I would go crazy not knowing. I find it comforting to visualize him and be prepared with clothes/nursery etc. i also hear it's very difficult to keep it a secret...especially w/ twins...in later u/s because they're moving differently & you're not quite sure when to look away if they flash you.
Marina i did do genetic testing because of my age...I feel so much more comfortable knowing ( see above), but that's just me. I feel for a blood test and the Nuchal ( which is just an Ultrasound) which are completely non-invasive....why not? You're not risking anything. And even if you don't care, childbirth is so crazy that I feel it would be better to know ahead of time if you had a special needs child so you could prepare things.
I have seen so many of my friends give birth & deal with just the typical things afterwards. The ones who were prepared ahead of time always have an easier go of it. Postpartum emotions, trying to breastfeed...all of it is hard the first time...wonderful but hard. It's easier if you're prepared....especially if there are issues.
But it's a decision you have to make. Don't be afraid because it's an uncomfortable topic...most likely everything is fine.

Thank you guys for your input,The problem with me that I do know there a lot of false positives(with twins even more),like KB mentioned,and if I get one,I'll have to do the amnio(or not) for the piece of mind.It is stressfull enough for us to wait till each appt. to see if there is a h/b(I've lost my baby at 16 weeks last February and just get paranoid if something could go wrong this time)So maybe I just wait until 20 week full scan too and try not to worry too much(yeah,right!).

Marina Yep....every decision is stressful now, but if you're worried just wait until 20 weeks like you said if that will make you less worried.
I had my U/S today & he was several days ahead of himself measuring 13W2D, but Dr says it's really hard to be accurate at this stage.
The amazing part was that my OB had the 3D U/S...I was shocked...so we got this great image that looks like a little warped baby
I was worried because the umbilical cord kind of goes up over his shoulder but i guess they move around so much it's normal.
I go back in 3 weeks....can't wait!

JerseyGal, glad your tests went well last week and everything is normal. I don't think we'll get the CVS done at this point, especially since the nearest facility that does them is 2 hours away. It must give peace of mind for you though. Oh, and I have a good friend who didn't find out what she was having, but her DH knew the whole time. That would be hard! At least you will both be wonderfully surprised at the same time.

Marina, I think the screening is definitely a personal decision. We were also told that there are false positives and negatives, so I guess in some situations it can cause undue stress. It sounds like waiting to week 20 is what would make you feel most comfortable. It's such a big decision and we thought long and hard about it.
I just went for b/w and nuchal scan yesterday. It was the most awesome experience! We were able to see baby's face, hands, feet, organs, pretty much everything! And we heard the heartbeat for the first time...we had only seen the rate before. Little one was wiggling around and flipping over, really cute. It truly is a miracle. I can't wait to go back! The baby's nuchal results came back normal but we have to wait for me to get more b/w at week 16 and then find out the final b/w results at week 17. That seems like so long! That's also when we will find out whether it's a boy or girl...I think.

Jerseygal- I didn't find out with my first what I was having. I originally wanted to know but they couldn't see because of her position. After that I had the chance to find out with later u/s but decided not to find out. I figured I already made it through that long without knowing I might as well just wait.

Well I am home from my LAST visit with my r/e in Philly. He wanted to see me one last time after the CVS and for a final u/s at his office. Babies are doing good, both measured 12 weeks 3 days and heartbeats were normal also.
He is also stopping my progest shots. My r/e told me that he usually stops the shots by week 10 but always keep them going until after the CVS test for his patients over age 40. I was still getting one each morning from my husband. They did bloodwork this morning and want me to go to my local lab on friday and have that sent to them, but he feels that the numbers are high enough now to not get anymore shots.
I don't know what in the world my husband is going to do now because I think he really is enjoying playing Nurse every morning before going work. I guess I am going to have to find something else to do to with him or give him some additional chores around the house.
I don't go and see my OB until Monday the 19th. I am a little nervious about the gap because I have been seeing the r/e on a weekly basis. He told me to call him anytime if there is a problem but he doesn't foresee any issues at this point.
The good thing is that after two and half years I can stop those trips into downtown Philly and now visit my OB that is 10 minutes from my home.

Hi girls- Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a nice new years. Well I can't believe that tomorrow I will be 14 weeks. I am still nervous this will all end but I pray I have nothing to worry about and I'm just paranoid. I am definitely not as tired as I was in the previous weeks but still dealing with some m/s. I am down almost 5 lbs but I am starting to get a little bit of an appetite now so I am sure those 5 lbs will come back and then some.

Happy New Year all! I'm so excited about this year. I just went for my first OB appt this morning and love my doctor. She said everything looks great and we got to listen to the heartbeat again. I was hoping for another u/s but since we just had one Tuesday at the nuchal and b/w screening, we will have to wait until 17 weeks. I guess I got spoiled with the frequent peeks at the baby. Hopefully this month will fly by. We also got a ton of information this morning including books and brochures regarding breastfeeding, lamaze classes, nutrition, etc. I can't wait to start learning more. How is everyone else doing? JerseyGal and Lyly, it sounds like things are good for both of you.

Lyly I was a little concerned that he showed much bigger....maybe 14W on Sunday...and I was still feeling queasy. But since you are too, I guess it's normal. My OB said it usually clears most people by 16 weeks....i said 16weeks!! noooo...not 2 or 3 more weeks? But hopefully it clears somewhat by then.

How nice to not have to do that drive...that'll take a lot of the stress off. I go back on the 19th too...just keep busy with research & reading books. It'll be fine.
