Traci, the only thing I would add are Zita's guidelines of:

*don't detox if you're on medication without checking with yr GP first.
*stop the detox if you feel pain or discomfort
*get plenty of fresh air and if possible, sunshine
*keep warm, get plenty of rest + sleep
*don't do any exercise
*start at a weekend (I think the w/end usually starts on Thurs!)
*consider lymphatic drainage as well
*if you've been taking medication, or if you smoke, drink alcohol or have a high caffeine intake, drink grapefruit juice with warm water first thing to lessen side effects.

I'm going to try the bean soup, I know I'll be tempted to snack if I don't fill up properly at dinner.

Best of luck ladies! I arrived at MIL's cabin only to find she'd bought 4 huge cakes, one for each day we were there....

Thanks Debra!! Getting ready to go for Thursday. I informed DH I would be giving it another go...not sure if he was impressed or not.

How was the cake? I really do love cake. I hope you enjoyed it :D :D

We had a very decadent weekend...but very nice. Wonderful dinner Friday evening..with cake as well, Saturday we did OK, Sunday big cheese pizza...but no cake.

It is really (pouring) raining here...which cancels my morning jog..maybe this afternoon.

Hope everyone is well!

Traci, the cake was awful I'm afraid. MIL eats all kinds of shop-bought cake, all the time and, sorry to say this, has a min. of 30lbs of excess weight to show for it. Luckily, DF doesn't have a sweet tooth so keeps me in line, most of the time. Hence my slipping out of control when he's working nights.

Anyway.....I cycled to the pool today and then swam 40 lengths/1km!!! I was one of 5 people in the whole place, gotta love 'adult swimming time' with no 10 year old boys jumping on your head. Just off to walk and collect DD. If I can only keep even half this level of activity up, I'll have a good month before tmt.

Hope everyone else is doing well today?

Take care all

well thank you  but it was only a sudden burst of enthusiasm, let's see how long it lasts

I've just baked a batch of delicious (even if I say so myself) banana-cinnamon-walnut muffins and a banana bread too. I'm going to drop some round at MIL's tomorrow. To:

A. remind her what a great DIL I am (HAHAHAHAHA)
B. show her I can bake
C. get some of the goodies out of my kitchen before I eat them all!

I hope to keep up the activity levels this week. Work should begin next week but it's looking quiet so I might have more swimming time, hooray!

Traci, I envy your jogging. My physio had better seem more confident on Wednesday otherwise I'll have to try somewhere else. I want to cross-country ski (gently, as I'll be pg :D ) this winter.

hugs

Debra - sorry you had to suffer through the store-bought cakes..I must say your muffins sound MUCH better...I don't like store stuff either..too sweet and doesn't have much other flavor.

Mmmm..I must also think about a winter sport to keep me active while being preggers....downhill skiing is out of the question....may stick to walking...maybe also take up swimming...we have lots of nice indoor pools and outdoor ones which are heated with heated decks...very lovely in winter when it is snowing :D

I should just say we didn't eat all 4 cakes, just 1.5 which wasn't bad considering we were indoors due to rain quite a bit.

I was off cycling to the pool again today and managed a huge 50 lengths, could have been 54 but I lost count due to boredom and being distracted by the over-60s water aerobics to C&W music.....

Eaten far too many muffins, I know they're super healthy but they're still muffins!

Lastly, I've been wearing my pedometer for 10 days and not managed to hit the recommended daily 10,000 yet. It only counts 6 steps or more so misses most of what I do, which is pottering :( still, I know I'm active even if it doesn't get recorded.

Hope everyone is ready for the detox. How many are doing it besides Traci and I? Traci, I'm off to the shops in prep. tomorrow, what do you recommend?

hugs

Hello Traci and Debra,
I want to do the detox with you, however, I don't want to miss exercizing for 7 days. At the risk of sounding like a whiner, I would like to understand some things better. Here are some questions I have:
1) Why can't we exercize during the detox?
2) Why no orange juice?
3) Does no alcohol mean no wine?

Please forgive me. I'm not trying to drill you, really. And it's okay if you don't know the answers to these, I know you aren't detox experts or anything. I was just hoping that Zita had explained some of this in her book, which you have read and I haven't - YET

My friend left yesterday and we managed to exercize only one day that she was here. We ate like pigs and sat around chatting, a little shopping, and that's it. Bad weekend for my body!

My caffeine withdrawal headaches are gone, but my tenidis (ringing in my ears) is worse! Doesn't make sense. I went off caffeine years ago and it HELPED my tenidis, so I was really looking forward to that side-effect.

Do any of my IVF friends know anything about ringing in the ears? I was checked several years ago and they said at the time that there is nothing to be done about it (hearing aide specialist). It really is a drain on your energy and I'm noticing it more now that I don't have the energy boost you get from caffeine.

Hope everyone is off to a good week!

Randa, I can only sympathise. I've heard tenidis et al. is a real nightmare. Poor you.

Re.

1) Why can't we exercize during the detox? Nothing in the book
2) Why no orange juice? No info given
3) Does no alcohol mean no wine? :x yes.

The lovely Zita doesn't say why oj is in the dog house but other acidic/citric juices are OK. Somebody asked this a few days ago and I had a good look but zip. Same with exercise, which to be honest, I'm going to half-ignore. I will swim if given the chance and cycle around a bit but nothing more. I guess it's because the body will be busy dealing with a new intake and she wants us to relax and let the liver do its thing?? Maybe because she's super keen on relaxing before tmt and most of us don't realise how little quality time we actually spend doing nothing.

Sorry to draw a blank here.

hugs

oh all right then

you healthy girlies have shamed me into it - I'll join you on the detox

Was going to give up wine at the weekend anyway....
I did manage to lose 5kg during the Summer, which makes me 80kg, which is 3kg less than even when I was still smoking so that's an achievement  Also I found out my sister started smoking again after having her 2nd baby (now 4 weeks old) can you believe that??? I am so proud I didn't start again after the m/c, as I said at the time, life decision..pat on the back for me

There's just me to walk 4 dogs, which means going twice, twice a day so no exercise is not going to happen, plus I need to swim for my back. Randa I know how energy draining a chronic problem can be, I have chronic scyatica (lower back pain also down one leg), good days and bad days, but itcan be wearing. You poor sweetie.

Better go and read my Zita book then - have caffiene and nicoteine free life already, don't have a sweet tooth, just have to kick the booze :? when do we start    ????

Oh wow, this is exciting, old freinds doing this together....

D - I hope you will be the grown up and keep us all on track

Randa - I've never heard of Tenidis - do you mean Tinnitus ? I've worked in the deaf field for quite a while and there's quite a few suggestions on improving (or reducing !) tinnitus. Have a look at this link :

Hope it helps ..

hmm, not sure about me being the adult here  I was thrilled to see I was the youngest by miles in the pool today, silly isn't it?

We start on Thursday morning. Zita suggests the weekend but luckily I suggested Thurs as it suits me best. I'm off to buy supplies tomorrow. I certainly plan to make a batch of bean soup and have tins of chickpeas ready for houmous too. Must get more whole oats and brown rice too as I'm running low. YUM!! I think dairy is going to be tough for me, we eat /drink a lot so will have to try the rice-milk idea instead.

Losing 5kgs is an amazing amount of weight and DOUBLE congrats for not smoking. So bl**dy easy to start and so bl**dy difficult to stop. Your sister must be in a bad way, no one wants to stink of old smoke around a brand new baby surely????

Those dogs will keep you super active. Let's interpret the no-exercise as 'nothing hideously sweaty or ott', that should cover most of us.....lol!

hugs
Debra.
