Well I got the news that I dreaded.
My hcg went from 4769 last Wednesday to 2712 today.
Of course we are just completely devastated. I just can't believe this.
I'm waiting on a call from my re to see what I do next because I'm not bleeding or cramping or anything. So I guess we'll just see what they say.

Thank you all so much for your thoughts.

My dr finally called today. He basically gave me the option of a d&c now or to just wait it out. He doesn't think it will be too long since my numbers are dropping so fast. He also thinks even though there's two, they shouldn't be too much of a problem to pass since they're small. So I told him we will wait it out for now but I am certainly not willing to wait weeks. So we will see how it goes. I hope, unlike the rest of this LONG process, this will go easy. I hope, I hope, I hope.
To add stress to the already stressful situation is that my dr (which is an ob that I work with) is going out of town for a week on Thursday. There are 2 doctors that take call for him. One of them I love and the other (which of course has the majority of the week he's gone) is a drunk and not at all a dr that I would want working on me. So I am just hoping and praying that this happens, goes away, and I don't need a d&c anyway after all this (by the drunk dr no less!!).

I'm sorry to bring such bad news to such a positive thread but I promised I would update. It's so nice to have people to talk to that "really do" know what it's like to go through the ups and downs of ivf. The first thing dh and I both did when we got our bfp was pray for other people going through this because we all know what a painful process this can be. I am so happy for all the new moms and the moms to be in here. I will check back soon to see how everyone is. Thanks again for all your support.

Sassy~ Take care of ALL those babies! Can't wait to hear about the us on Fri.

Nickster--Thanks for the update. I'm sure it's not easy to talk about. I hope that you can avoid the drunk doc, too. How horrible that that is even a fear!

Sassy--I agree, love the ticker. How are you feeling? Nausea any better?

Well, I have two words for you. Teething sucks. It's been a very traumatic few days! To top it off, dh is going in for surgery tomorrow. So it's really hectic here and I have a very crabby baby and like zero sleep. Grrrr. Oh well, I know I'm going to look back on this week some day and laugh!

Hope all is well with everyone else. Did you party it up for St. Patty's?

Nickster: glad to hear from you. A drunk? What? I'm with you. I wouldn't want a drunk guy (well-educated or not!) digging around my uterus... especially since you will be NEEDING YOURS AGAIN SOON.

Mego: Ouch on the teething thing. I remember my grandmother always used bourbon or something and rubbed it on the gums. Not very PC but she swore it worked! Wishing the best for dh's surgery tomorrow. I pray everything goes well and his recovery is quick! Will be thinking of you all tomorrow. Make sure to let us know how it goes...

I had another US on Friday. We were having to tell dh's family since I was to be measured for a bridesmaid's dress on Saturday... for a wedding I may not even be able to attend, much less fit into a snug dress for  . So I asked my RE to do another US before we told them Friday night. I wanted to get an idea of how they were doing... in particular the one that was much smaller on the previous US (which I have lovingly named "runt").

We still have five heartbeats. The three babies with their own sacs look good. The two identical twins are another matter. Runt still had a low heartbeat and hadn't grown much. It's twin, which looked good at the last US only grew 1mm, although the heart rate increased as would be expected if the fetus was healthy. We expect to be losing runt... we will just have to wait and see with the other twin.

I called on Friday to get an appt with the perinatologist I want to work with. At first the scheduler said that his schedule is totally booked (he is out of town this week) and suggested that I may have to wait another week or two... that is, until I mentioned I have quintuplets. Her response? Silence... and then "Did you just say quintuplets?" When I said yes, she told me they would clear his calendar. And they did! I have an appt next week

They just called and my US is being moved from Friday to next Monday. Still nauseated, but really not that bad, especially considering multiples.

Hope you are all well,

Hey girls~

Nickster- I'll be thinking of you, sorry you have to go through this. I agree-ditch the drunk doctor!

Meg~ Sassy is right about the bourbon. My mom used it on me and I'm fine. She said you are supposed to rub it on their gums and then you take a swig, rub some more on their gums then you take a swig~after that you don't care that you have been awake for 20 hours. In fact you'll probably be amused by it! :D Oh- I looked at your pictures- they are adorable!

Sassy~ glad to hear you are doing ok, and that the runt and his or her counterpart are hanging in there! You never know, they may surprise you!

Ok going to get some sleep before the next bottle...
Jenn

Nickster, I am so sorry that you have to go through this. Sisters are here in good times and bad so feel free to vent any time. I'm with Sassy on the Dr thing, that drunk Dr should not be allowed anywhere near your uterus. The sisters will form a barricade around you if necessary...

Mego, sorry to hear about your troubles, isn't it always the way that bad stuff always comes at once. I am still amazed at how bad sleep deprivation can be. I pretty much turned into a cabbage. I still resemble some sort of vegetable, today I almost shoplifted a baby hairbrush because I forgot to pay, lucky the shop assistant was understanding....As far as remedies for teething goes, I'm on the alcohol bandwagon, I was given something called "gripe water" which I am pretty sure was alcohol. To this day I love me some gripe water. Good luck to DH and Lucy is gorgeous!

Sassy, you are a classic, runt indeed. I sincerely hope that all goes well for you and your brood and that runt turns out to be a big strapping footy player or female wrestler. So how did DH's family react??? I need details, have you told anyone else???

Jenn glad you are getting sleep between bottles, gotta grab it when you can right? I had a snooze at my desk yesterday afternoon as my boss was in a trial. I hope I didn't snore...

Welll I'd better go and do some work, things are getting pretty darned busy around here...

Fee

Hello all!

Nickster - I am so sorry about your news. I know it is devastating. It just leaves you wondering, "why me"? I wish I knew words to say to make you feel better, but I suppose there are none. Please know we are all here for you. Are you going to try another round? I mean, when you look at this group and so many of the women that have gone through it multiple times, it does give you hope, doesn't it? So many times, it takes multiple rounds and then BAM - it finally works! I wish you the best in the coming days and weeks.

Meg - Bless your heart! You just have had a lot going on lately, haven't you? Well, I must admit that Lucy is a looker! She is adorable!!! And honey - you look great! You should be proud! I hope the surgery goes well for your husband and little Lucy's teething gets better soon. I agree on the bourbon. Swab a little Wild Turkey on her gums...bet it will help! In the mean time, swig a little for yourself. Everyone will be feeling better! :D

Fee - Bet it sucks to be back at work! Work is making me crazy right now. I sat in the airport yesterday for over 5 hours trying to catch a flight to Houston only to learn that my connection flight to Kansas was cancelled, so I finally gave up and went home. We had some freakish storms yesterday in Texas that made air travel a nightmare. The airport was chaos!!! UGGGHHHH!!! :x How is Rio??? Any chance of ever seeing pics of the little guy??? :)

Vicky/Angie - Sounds like you are doing well....albeit the swollen legs, Angie!

Jenn - How is Ms. Anna doing? Are you hiding her out like Fee is holding out for the big bucks?? Better post them before Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have theirs!! Might be some stiff competition for you!!! :D

Sassy - How are you??? Yes, I also wanted to know who you have told!!! Did you tell the WHOLE family??? I can't imagine the SHOCK on their faces!! I think I remain in awe of you! What an amazing story!!! How are you hanging in there?? When is your next u/s??? :)

Ok, I better run. Wasted day of work yesterday sitting at the airport and I am paying for it today!

We find out on Friday, the 28th of March what we are having!!! I am dying to know NOW!!! Sister Poll: What is Tina having??? Voting begins NOW!!!! :)

Tina
Me - 40; DH - 42

Well girls I think I've escaped the drunk dr for good!!! Last night I was sitting on my couch so upset and just trying to think of anyway out of this. The girls I work with found out that he was taking call and said "no way will we let him touch you". So I was just stressed, it was terrible.
Then out of the blue my phone rang and it was the doctor that delivered ME (who is still my moms ob)! It's kind of a long story but my sister and I were the first twins he delivered. We were breach and my mom delivered vaginally and I got stuck. I mean BAD. This doctor thought he broke my neck on top of the brain damage he thought I'd have. He remembers the day, time, and even room number we were born in!
So he agreed with my doctor and said I would be better off to pass naturally but he never wants me to feel uncomfortable with someone that's messing with my uterus. He said if I needed a d&c while my dr was gone he would be more than willing to do it for me. He told me to just call him at home!
I called my mom and said "I think someone was praying or me!" I just cannot tell you the weight that lifted off of me.
So as for now I don't have any cramping, no spotting, no nothing. I told dh this am, it's so wierd to be going through this and have no symptoms at all. I mean if I hadn't had that hcg, I wouldn' even know this was happening. It's just wierd. I wish it would just happen so we can go on with life.

Sassy~ I am glad to hear those babies are doing good (even runt). That's great you got in with the perinatologist so quickly. I think you will be seeing them quite frequently. What day do you go next week?
And of course like everyone else...I want to know what the in laws said.

Meg~ Sorry about the teething nightmare. I heard that can be quite grueling. I hope for your sake and hers it gets better soon.
Let us know how dh's surgery went today.

Tina~ That's terrible about your flight! Sounds like it was just not meant to happen.
So next Friday you find out what your having. I bet you can't wait! Do you have names picked out for both?
BTW...my vote is girl.

Fee~ You need to quit working so hard! They are just working our poor girl to death! Hopefully working from home will get here soon.

Jenn~ Sounds like your pretty busy with little sleep too! We need to see pictures of ms anna soon.

Talk to everyone soon.
Meg, I'm thinking of dh today. I hope everything goes well.

Hey guys. Am typing this from the surgery waiting room in the hospital. Dh has been in surgery for 3 and 1/2 hours now...to quote the great Tom Petty: "The waiting is the hardest part....." The nurse has come out and updated me several times, though, and it sounds like things are going as good as can be. It's hard being away from Lucy for so long, but she's staying with my mom and is doing well. Thanks for all your wishes...

Also, thanks for all the teething advice. I really liked the one about drinking the whiskey myself. Made me laugh! I could use a shot or two right now. Why don't they sell liquour in the hospital? I bet they'd make a killing....maybe that's a bad way to phrase that!!!

Nickster--glad to hear that your family doctor stepped up like that. You're right, it is a very bizarre situation to be in. I'm so sorry you're going through it. Grrrrrrrrrr. It just f'ing sucks.

Sassy--Hang in there, Runt! I, also, am excited to hear about how the families react to the news. I have been telling everyone I know your story! It always gets a "wow"!

Fee--Glad to hear that you can at least nap at work. Bastards for making you come in! What's new with Nogs? Any new tricks?

Tina--I'm feeling girl, too. Think pink! Can't wait to find out.

Well, will check in later! Hope everyone else is good. It's the last day of winter!!!!

Meg: Oh, I can only imagine how long 3 1/2 hours is when dh is in surgery! Glad to hear it is going well so far. Since you are sitting in a hospital with nothing to do but worry... here is a story. You complained they don't have alcohol in hospitals... but actually any really good, solid alcoholic worth their weight in salt can find some. I once took care of a patient in the county hospital here who was found unconscious in one of the hospital bathrooms. He came to pretty quickly and we suspected he had downed a bunch of rubbing alcohol (he had been hospitalized for it before). It took a few hours, but we got him stabilized. I wrote in the orders that ALL rubbing alcohol was to be removed from any room where he was cared for. But what did I see? Three hours later, there he was, with his skinny a&& hanging out of a gown hightailing it out of the ER with TWO bottles of rubbing alcohol stuck in his socks  .

Nickster: so glad to hear you will escape the clutch of Dr. Scotch. Truly I had this picture in my head of the guy lurching in to the room and stabbing at your uterus. Not good  So much relieved to hear you will be well cared for either way.

Tina: You must be dying to find out the sex of the baby... I guess I always imagined that is when the whole thing would seem real...

All right... I am dying to leave work here and go home for a quick nap on the couch before dinner... but since y'all have been asking...

Dh's family didn't believe us when we told them our news. Really. They believed we were pregnant and jumped up and down, etc (making a scene at the restaurant  ). But when dh explained how many there are, how they are doing, etc, they thought he was joking. I had to pull out the latest ultrasound picture to convince them  . Since then, MIL and SIL can't keep their mouths shut! (which was totally expected!). My BIL swears SIL is meeting new people just so she can tell them our news.
