Hayley moved house either last weekend or was this weekend. She's probably busy painting everything pink!

Hi everyone... room for one more... or should that be 3?!

I've not been able to post much recently as I've been so busy, but I'm sure all of you twin mums can agree!

Briefly to let you know incase you don't already, but me and my partner have been together for just over 6 years now, and for the last 4 years or so we have been going back and forth from our local fertilty clinic trying to fix my broken self... After much stress and hardwork, we started our 1st cyle of IVF last August.

Someone must have been looking down at us and thought that we have struggled enough, as we now have two beautiful darling, gorgeous twins, our daughter Jessenia and our son Maqkai. They are 4 1/2 months old and the most precious things I have ever had.

I haven't managed to read up on all of the posts on this thread yet, but I will do when I get a minute!

Take care everyone, and I'll hopefully catch up with you all soon?

Hi Girls
I haven't posted for ages and ages cos i wanted to get through my first trimester. The good news is though we are having twins, i feel so blessed. We are due on the 04th april but are told we go earlier. We are just starting looking around for prams etc... Has anybody been given any advice so far on the best prams to buy or any other equipment which is meant to be good. Looking forward to chatting with you all

Hi wendywoo.

I wasn't really advised about equipment, but we brought a Jane Powertwin buggy, which we find quite good. It can be used from birth with two additional carseats that are rear-facing when they are on the buggy. When your children can sit up, or get too big for the car seats then you can just use the normal seats. we couldn't find anyother buggy at the time that would also hold the car seats so that's why we opted for that one.

Another thing I couldn't be without is our bathstand / changing station. A lot of people said to me that it would be a waste of money and that we should just change the twins on the floor, but for the £50 that we paid for it, it has been used so much that I'm surprised it's still standing!!! It really saves on back ache and the fussy moments when you change the twins - one can be on the bed or in their seat, and you can still watch them whilst you change the other - if you are near them that is!!!

Thanks for your advice. I have looked at the jane power twin and it is something i am seriously considering, my car is quite small though (clio) so i worry it may not fit.
So how have you found it being a mother to twins? has it been as hard as you expected? I'm so excited but terrified at the same time, i'm sure these feelings are felt by all mothers to twins.

Before my twins were born I bought a side by side double buggy, which was light to push, easy to steer and also plenty of room for the babies. They were born by C-section, I found that lifting the pram in and out of the car was almost impossible and it took up most of the boot. After a couple of months we bought 2 single buggies and a set of Prince Lionheart pram connectors. I find it is easier to get the single buggies out of the car and they fit better and does not fill it up completely.

With the car seats we bought ISOfix bases. The seats clip in and out of the car and you do not use the seatbelt. It has saved me a lot of time trying to get out anywhere!

I agree with Nes about the changing station. I have a changing station upstairs in their room and another downstairs that has a bath. For the bath I have a plastic moulded seat that they sit in which supports them leaving me with two hands free.

Being mum to twins is hard work at times but the best job in the world!

Thanks so much for all your tips i will seriously consider them all.

Hope you don't mind if i waffle on about constipation for a while. My midwife told me to double my iron tablets on week 16 which is this week but i haven't yet because i am in agony with constipation on a very low dose of iron. Does anybody know of anything i can take to help me go? The pharmasist says i have to see the doc so i have an appoitment on monday. Any advice to get me through the weekend would be great.
Just off to the shop to buy some all bran!!!!!!!!

after my transfer I was really bloated and sore, and I had a bit of constipation because i had mild over stimulation... I was told that from the chemist all I could really use was senakot i think it was called... but the sachets that you mix with water...

I cant take medicine that way, so i struggled with it. The first one i took was so vile ( it tasted of orange, but as i said im not good with them drinky things ) that i threw it straight back up... the 2nd wasn't too bad... it worked slightly, but eventually it did ease up... not sure if it was to do with rhe senakot or not though...

Thanks for that, i've just been out and bought some of the senakot drinky things. Oh my god i had to take a deep breath they really are vile but if they do the trick i'll keep them up. Going to see doc this afternoon so i'll c if he can give me anything else.

Hi Ladies,

I hope that you do not mind me joining you here. Reading some of the past pages had already given me some tips so thank you for taking the time to share girls.

We are 15 weeks pregnant with twins today. We too have been blessed with being successful at our 1st IVF attempt. I did not feel pregnant even after the pregnancy blood test confirmed it and was ecstatic when the 6 week scan not only confirmed that yes, I am indeed pregnant but we heard the 2 heart beats. I did not feel any nausea until week 8 and it wasn't really bad, only mainly a bit ill in the afternoons. I think the nausea has now pretty much subsided. I haven't been working for the last three months and had just returned to break the news to my boss. He seemed understanding (what choice does he have?) and I am wondering when you ladies find that it was no longer possible to continue working??? Naively I was thinking maybe around Week 34-36 but the midwife had warned that I could be the size of a 40 week singleton pregnancy at 28 weeks and I should be practical about when to stop work. I would appreciate some advice on your experiences.

Good Morning Everyone,

I was hopeing to join you ladies. I just went through my first IVF and was blessed that it worked. I am a little over 5 weeks along and just found out yesterday that I am pregnant with twins. I am still in a state of shock. I am thrilled that the IVF worked and am so greatfull of how blessed we are but I am terrified of the potential complications that comes along with twins. I have heard such horror stories and would love to hear any positive stories about twin pregnancies, deliveries and parenting.

Congratulations, Rittie! I expected pre-term labor myself. I decided early on that I should be prepared in case it happens. I had a healthy pregnancy, gained 50 pounds (I was not big at all for twins), no troubles at all....and then boom, I had the babies at 33.5 weeks. I was so glad that I prepared both at home & work. I planned to work as long as I could....but I worked hard to get everything done at work and handed off so that when I went into labor they wouldn't be lost without me.

Nance, congratulations also! I was also worried my entire pregnancy with everything that comes with twins....pre-term labor, bed rest, preemies, etc. One thing I did was eat a lot of protein beginning with the 20th week. Protein helps the babies gain weight. Despite having the babies at 33.5 weeks, my babies were great weights...4lbs 10oz & 5lbs 3 oz...and they didn't require any medical attention. I also took it easy during my pregnancy...didn't exercise, didn't golf, didn't do strenuous things, got lots of sleep, took care of myself, etc. The first two weeks with the twins at home was scary for me...and difficult. But that passed and the last two weeks with them has been wonderful. They are more work than having one baby, but it is not impossible. I have great success with breastfeeding them at the same time...it saves a lot of time!

Let me know if either of you have any other questions. It's hard for me to believe that I'm a mommy of twins that are 5 weeks old....I haven't even hit my due date yet!
