I start Lupron on Saturday 12/22 and am scheduled for my first ultrasound and B2 on 12/28. Can anyone tell me whatto expect next.

I do know that they have me on Bravelle and Menopur. Are these two drugs taken together. I guess what I thought was that you only get one shot a day and it seems that there could be three. Also when does the Lupron injections stop.

I hope to learn alot in tomorrows class because this seems like alot to keep up with. I just want to make sure that I am doing all of this stuff right.
Ok Im going to answer your questions the best i can. In regards to the needles.

You probable have:

29g - These are really small typically used for insulin. This should be for your lupron

22G - These are BIG and long, these are what you Draw your medicine in. By draw they mean you will insert the needle into the medicine vial and draw out the medicine. You would then switch the needle tip only to a smaller needle for injection. These are used for progesterone in oil typically.

25G-This is to inject the progesterone in oil. (You typically only receive the tips)

Hint of advice the Lower the number the bigger the needle, the biggest needle (smallest gauge) is to withdraw the meds to prep for injection.

On your ultrasound if this is an actual full IVF, they will be looking at your uterine lining and follicles, you will also be on stimulants soon as well. (follistim etc)

If its a FET transfer they will be looking at your lining of your uterus to make sure your ok to start estrogen or something of the same nature. It depends on your dr and your treatment plan but thats a basic idea.

GoodLuck hun!

I forgot to mention that the progesterone needles are 1 1/2 length and are Muscular injections, so Yes they will go in all the way. Its not as bad as it sounds!!!

Some people have been talking about numbing cream? What is it called, and where can I get it??

Hope all is well with everyone. I have been surprisingly positive the last couple days...hope my PMA stick around!!!!
Hey Neffi, I just searched all over and could not find mine. I bought some back in september when I started IVF and I used it twice. I misplaced it since. It didn't work too great imo but I did a search and found one called Emla. I would ask your nurse, they can usually tell you what they think is best. :D

This might help you:

washingtonda,
Maybe I can shed some light on your needles. most likely you recieved 18 gage needles (large bore needles) for the draw, meaning you will draw up the Medications into the syringe with it because the medications will draw up quicker. Then you will replace the needle with with the smaller bore needle (most likely a 22 gage). This is a much thinner bore needle and wont cause as much trauma to the skin and tissue when injecting. They look intimidating but once you do a Intramuscular (IM) shot, you'll see it ain't that bad   Best wishes on your IVF journey

hi pumma - how's the waiting going? what do you have planned to keep yourself busy? do you celebrate christmas in the traditional german way, or are you americanized?? I think christmas in germany is really quite wonderfully simple, but I do miss the big tree at rockefeller center ... your 1st week is almost over! that is great -
I have an appt to have my thyroid levels checked on Jan 8 -- so, perhaps there is a chance I can cycle in January - I am feeling much better since my meds were adjusted. thanks for asking about me.

washingtonda - think you've gotten some good advice about the shots from the ladies here, but if you are still unclear, just check with your clinic and they will explain everything, I am sure. Yes, it can be that you have to give yourself more than one shot per day. Just alternate sides every day. My clinic suggests doing the shots around the belly area and not in the leg, because the leg bruises more easily. I would think that they'd give you a plan up to your er time, then adjust it accordingly. there is some medicine I take that I take in the beginning, then stop, then have to take again after transfer -- so everyone's plan is different and the meds could be adjusted during your cycle depending on how your body is reacting to them - just go with the flow and trust your RE and don't be afraid to ask a lot of questions if anything is unclear! good luck!

to keisha - enjoy catching up on all of your scrapbooking on the 2ww! that ought to make the days go by quickly. enjoy looking back at all the good times you've had so far in your life and think ahead to adding pictures of your baby after you get your BFP! take care and listen to DH...he sounds like a great guy, looking after you like that.

to mrs. G - welcome and all the best to you on your 2ww - hoping this is your time. PMA= positive mental attitude - and you've certainly got that. thanks for all of your support and advice. when do you test?

welcome to josephine! best of luck with your cycle! there are lots of wonderful ladies here to offer great support and advice whenever you need it. try to relax - you can do it. if you believe, your wishes can come true.

to wunny - anything is possible - when is AF supposed to arrive? can also be that the meds throw off your next AF and it takes a few till they are back to normal and on schedule --

big hello to everyone hanging out on the 2ww. hope your embies are snuggling in nicely! if you are looking for something to do, many people have suggested watching funny movies to pass the time and keep your spirits up!

looking forward to reading about how everyone is doing - thinking about you and sending out lots of sticky baby dust!

Good Morning Ladies,

Couldn't sleep this morning and found that our thread has been very active....yeah!!!

Mrs G - You nailed the needle thing! And PMA means Positive Mental Attitude, which we have an abundance on this thread. Thanks for letting me know the ins and outs of FET, it is my backup plan. Prayinf for much success for you!

washingtonda - It's okay if you bleed through the mock transfer. It is common and they are use to it. I hated it, I had a mock transfer during my cycle of July. You will become and expert on the shots. I did 3 shots per day. It will vary from person to person and your RE may up or lower the shots depending upon how you are responding. Your injection class will help you a lot. Don't worry too much,,,you'll catch on quickly :P !

Neffi211 - I use the EMLA numbing cream and I love it. I know how my bum feels with and without it....I choose with it. Tired of being a pin cushion. Your doctor must write out a prescription for you. I slap some on an hour before injection time and cover it with cling wrap (sounds weird but it works), remove the excess after an hour, DH does the shot, and I rub in PIO with my heating pad. Don't feel a thing!

Pumma - Hi sweetie, hope you are feeling a little better. I'm start my scrapbooking for dummies project and I want to learn how to knit. I figure I can start off with a scarf, what do you think? My grandmother used to do it and looked super easy, but doesn't it always? I also got a jumbo puzzle, like 1500 pieces but it is making my head spin just looking at the box  Tell me what you are doing to stay busy, I'm on day one and getting itchy already :P !

WELCOME JOSEPHINE - You have some great ladies to start on your IVF ride, so don't be too scared. Will make sure that you can a laugh moment here and there. Like yesterday at my embryo transfer. Well, you have to have a full bladder, 64 oz of water and they want to put someone in you at the same time!! Well, I made through that and they wanted me to stay on the table for 10 minutes...mission accomplished, right? Ran to the bathroom to finally go. Well, me and DH zoom off in his corvette (brand new his baby), very low to the ground car. I told him a couple of times that I really had to go and he was trying to make it to the next exit. You guessed it, I let go for a few seconds. He was pissed and obviously so was I....LOL. So, he was out cleaning his car all day!! Told him to take the other car.....haha!

schel67 - Good job on explaining the needle. You are sooo strong not to fall victim to the evil pee pee tests. Me on the other hand, I have already stocked up! I know, I know....they are purely evil and should be banned from purchase by anyone doing IVF. But I can't stand to be told not to do something, it's in my character. BUT I am not doing it until my 2 days before beta. I'm not so bad huh?

ICSI GIRL - Hope you are doing okay.....are you stuck in the storm?

Wishing everyone well and tons of sticky vibes and baby dust!

hellokitty,
I guess I can hold off on the evil pee pee test cuz this ain't my first rodeo so to speak LOL. I got a false negative before because of Low HCG. Even a sensitive test wouldn't have given me a positive read. I got a negative hpt but was actually positive! The HCG went up but unfortunately then back down so RE called it a chemical pregnancy and stopped my hormones to move forward for my next FET. I feel real good about this time!!! I do have a couple test left from the last time I stocked up, so I think I will use them when I already know from beta test I'm positive just to watch it give me the double line LOL

Hey Everyone,

I am so happy to see such an active board. I am still constantly reading, but still not too much to say.

I am hanging in there. I go tomorrow for my progesterone bw. I am curious to see the results of that and hope that the suppositories are working just fine. I have injections, and the intramuscular one doesn't sound fun at all.

I am now 4dp my 3dt, and it is weird to say, my pma is shrinking a little. My dh and I have been very optimistic the entire way, it seems as though we had everything going for us. Right after et, I felt a lot of symptoms, but they seem to be going away. I had sore breasts and felt bloated constantly, but it seems to be going away. From what I had read, yesterday or today was suppose to be implantation which usually comes with bleeding and I have had no bleeding at all. Has anyone else had a bfp and did not have any bleeding? The only symptom that seems to be sticking is being emotional and a bit moody.

I have a confession too. I had an extra hpt lying around and used it. I took it only 2dpt, and I knew It would not be accurate. I couldn't help myself, I wanted to do it almost as an experiment. It was bfn, which I was actually ok with because that should mean the trigger shot is out of my system and if I take another hpt and it comes out bfp, it should be accurate, right? Well, regardless of what the outcome will be, I am planning on stocking up on hpt's and doing my own little experiments for the days leading up to my beta test.

I will update when I get my bw tomorrow and hopefully I will have time for some personals soon. I have a big final tonight and a huge paper that I haven't even started due on Friday. I need school to end, I just can't concentrate on it right now.

Everyone keep posting! I will keep reading and baby dust to all!

Doreen, I have the same situation with AF. AF came last week and I was surprised since I have been on BCP for over a month now. My periods are usually only 2-3 days and this is going a bit longer, but my nurse also was not concerned about it. I have my baseline on Friday and will double check with the RE, but I am sure it is nothing. I think the other girls gave you great info on the needles. Since you are on Menapour and Brevelle, the packaging may come with a Q-cap which you would use instead of the larger needle to draw the meds. The Q-cap makes it a lot easier. They will go through all this with you when you do the class. My class was weeks before my first injection, so I had forgotten a lot of what the nurse had told me and I was a wreck the first time, afraid that I was going to screw up, but then I got the hang of it very quickly.

To my girls in 2ww, how are you doing? I hope the time is going fast and remember that you are pregnant until proven otherwise (I love that)

Josephine, Welcome! It is natural to be scared, especially if this is your first time. Before you know it, you will have so much support and knowledge from this board it will make you feel like an expert on IVF. Hang in there sweetie and don’t hesitate to ask any questions.

To everyone else, hope you are doing well. If you are like me and your cycle is ready to begin, get ready for the roller coaster. :o I am looking forward to lots of BFPs.

xoxo
Tali
