Melissa- I drive by ithaca everytime I go to rochester to visit my bro. What a horrible drive from CT, I-90 is the worst.
We have decided to find out the gender. Actually, I can't wait and I am counting down. I guess my family is just the opposite, most of them do not want to know. My mom says that my generation can not wait for anything, and wants everything yesterday. I guess she is right that I can't wait, DH and I never even make it until christmas to open presents, of course we won't make it 9 months. We kinda want to know for genetics too. My dh is a little worried about having a boy and passing on whatever he had that made him "infertile." I don't really thinnk it matters too much, because he was still able to conceive, and if we have a boy it is a bridge we will have to cross when we get there.
Well, my journey for clothes did not go well the other day. I am borderline plus size, so it is hard to shop for regular clothes let alone maternity. The selection at the 2 places I went was very small. I will try again next week. I did order some bella bands online though, I can't wait until they get here.

We aren't finding out the baby's sex either. My husband wants to keep it a mystery and I'm cool with that. That way, people can't buy her a lot of pink gear if she's a girl. I don't want my girl growing up always being conscious she's a girl. I want her to think outside the box.
I was an ex-tomboy. If you can't tell! Better known for my knee scrapes and fast talking mouth when I was 6. I was the one to do everything first, and my older brother followed me.

If it makes you feel better - my journey to the mall for more clothes yesterday also left me empty handed. I have an athletic build (read - large behind and thighs and small waist) and really struggle to find anything to fit on a good day. I usually wear an 8, but now 10's don't fit that well either. My stomach is a little bigger, but unfortunately the weight I gained during my exercise vacation (and re-discovery of the joy of serious comfort carbs) went straight to my hips. When you are a shorter person, every little pound shows. Oh well. If I got a BFN and lost weight I wouldn't be any happier. Perhaps I will embrace the love of flax clothing that seems to grip a portion of Ithaca and buy some of those roomy and also shapeless clothes. Unfortunately, flax is a bit on the thin side, but I guess I could wear long underwear underneath
Good luck to all whose wardrobe is shrinking and unbuttoning isn't helping...
Did I mention that most people I know are taken aback when we say we don't want to know the sex? My family hasn't asked for the most part...so I don't know how they feel about it.
Melissa

Hi Ladies!
At last I decided to join you. I was tempted to do it earlier, but something had stopped me. So, I think I am ready now
I wish everybody to have a smooth pregnancy! My first trimester isn't so great due to morning sickness that looks more like all day sickness. I am looking forward the next month.
As many of you, I went yesterday for my first maternity shopping (I have left with only one pare of pants!!!). It went well and I got one jeans with elastic waste that could serve me through the whole pregnancy. I also got a Bella belt.
Welcome Elca, so glad you joined! When is your due date? Glad you had luck with the clothes, I am determined to be successful next week.
MLB- Yeah, I just say enjoy this tim eand prepare for the hard work later. I don't think I could make it through this experience without those wonderful comfort carbs!
Washingtonda- Good luck with your u/s tomorrow, we will be waiting for results.
I hope everyone has a great week. This is going to be the longest week ever, since next week is my elementary schools winter break. The week before vacation always stinks, especially since I am looking so forward to the break.

LostGirl- I have been browsing posts to see if anyone had the same issues I do. I am 5 weeks along and my tummy is huge and I have to hide it at work, looks like 4-5 mos. It seems like you had the same swelling after IVF, did you have OHSS or was it just IVF swelling? It gets worse at night and better in the mornings, it is hard to sit for too long, I have to lie down after eating. My RE didn't seem concerned (hasn't seen me since ET) and said "comes with being pregnant" can you tell me if your experience was the same and what was causing swelling, what did your RE do and what your first u/s showed? Thank you so much for your help!!!
Are you girls doing the amniocenteses test? or just the Nuchal?
Thanks again and congratulations one more time! This board has been the most wonderful support!

Rio, I just answered you on another thread! I have looked 3 months along since I got my first beta. I saw my doc today and asked him about it. He didn't seem worried, and told me that with IVF your hormone levels are elevated and stay that way if you're pregnant so hence the big belly. Also apparently my ovaries are still enlarged.
I hope everything is fine in your case too. Today the baby was 8 weeks 4 days and had a good heartbeat, so I graduated from IVF today and made an appt to see my ob-gyn early March.
I can't believe it!

Hey ladies -- I think it's safe for me to now join you guys fully. I had my first U/S today and our one little bean was snuggled in nicely with a strong heartbeat. It was amazing to see that little heart just fluttering away. I have another U/S scheduled for 2/25 and if all goes well, I will be graduating from the clinic.
They stopped my Baby Aspirin and cut my estridol back to one pill a day verses two. He advised that I needed to stay on the progesteron suppositories at least until my next visit.
My RE explained that after my next U/S that he will schedule me for one appointment with their high risk pregnancy doctor to do the testing for abnormalties and than I can be released to my regular OBGYN.
I'm guessing this is the Nuchal testing because at this point I am not doing the Amnio.
Well good luck to all of us and I'm glad to be a part of this thread.

Is the nuchal testing the u/s they do to check for downs? I am having that done next week. They told me it is done between the 11 and 13th weeks of pregnancy. They said it is an u/s and bloodwork, with no risk to the baby. We are doing this test and hoping it comes back good, so we don't have to take any chances with aminio. We do not want to do the amnio.
Lostgirl- Congrats on graduating ivf! I have my last appt this thursday, and then will officially be released to my ob. I already saw my ob around 9 weeks, and will see them again at the end of this month.
Rio- I was pretty "swollen" too. I think it is from all of the medications, including the progesterone. My swelling finally seemed to go down, but just in time for my belly to start growing. I am a bigger girl anyway, so I am not showing too much, it really depends on what I wear. I am going to tell my coworkers after my winter vacation next week. I will be 13 weeks then, and I know I will be growing rapidly!

Washingtonda, welcome! I was waiting to join the club also for a long time. Michele, thank you for your welcome. My EDD is Sep. 7th. Looks like I am close to MLB.
I graduated my RE the last week. It was sad, but exciting at the same time. And I have already had my first OB appointment at the end of January. We dicided skip nuchal testing and blood work. The result wouldn't change our mind in having this baby, and it would make me crazy in case if results aren't great.
elca- close to my due date too, which right now is the same as mlb's, september 6th. I go for an 11 week appt with my clinic tomorrow, and I will probably get another due date. It has changed everytime because my baby has been measuring smaller than average. I will officially graduate from the clinic tomorrow. It has been a long journey, but I will be glad to move on, and not have to make that long drive anymore.

I have my first u/s at my ob-gyn next Thursday the 21st, and I wonder if that's when they'll test for down's. When I asked they said it was simply get a good estimate on the baby's age/size but I've already have two u/s and told them that. They told me they still need to do it, but weren't really clear on why.
I'm happy to get another u/s though. This one will be a day before the 10th week. Will I be able to hear a heartbeat as well as see it by that point?

Lostgirl- The first trimester testing is just another u/s and some bloodwork. It is done between the 11th and 13th weeks, and my ob said it had to be done at one of our local hospitals, because they were still in the process of getting licensed for it. (apparetly you need a special certificate). You do not have to do it if you don't want to. Some people decide not to do it, because it won't change the outcome of their pregnancy anyway. The test itself measures the skin fold on the back of the neck. From that information, they can give you your risk factor for having a baby with downs, like 1 in 1000. I read that it accuratley detects over 80% of babies who will be born with downs. I don't think dh and I are at risk, but we would still like to know, and as you said, it is another u/s and chance to get to see our baby.
Well, we officially graduated from our clinic today. The baby was dancing all around the screen again. It was hard for her to get a good pic, but I will post it in a little while anyway. We could see the arms and legs moving around, it is so neat to watch.
Oh yeah, lostgirl, about the heartbeat. I know some people can hear the heartbeat early, but my ob told us not until after 12 weeks. The clinic did not have the technology for us to hear it, and the ob said they would not use it until after 12 weeks, just for safety of the baby, I really don't know why, but I guess the wait will be worth it.
Happy Valentines Day Everyone. I hope all the mommas are being treated extra special today!
