Well DH and I spent an hour and a half on the phone with Dr Sher last night..

An amazing man.. he gave me more information than any of the other Drs combined..

while i had decided that i had immunological issues (and am going to be tested regardless) he doesnt think that he thinks its quality issues. and that i have been on the wrong protocols... the only bummer is if i decide to switch to him i will have to be on November cycle and i so wantto get going again.

DH and i are going to both get tested this week .. I have another appointment with a Dr Norbert Gleicher on Monday (anybody know of him? Then meeting with my Cornell Drs again on tues..

I hope to make a decision about next steos by the end of the week.

Wow - 1-1/2 hours! I don't think any of the REs I've seen have ever, ever spent that much time with me, combined! How awesome. The only thing I don't get - I thought you'd had PGD in the past and that there weren't any issues with your embies? So, why does he think it's quality? And, why do you have to wait to November to cycle with him (although, Nov isn't that far away, actually, and might be good to really give yourself a chance to get your body into 'peak' condition for another cycle?)

Sorry, I've not heard of the other doctor, but sounds like you're making good progress.

The embryologist called again yesterday, they think we're going to do a 3 day transfer after all. With only 5 embies, they feel the best shot is to transfer 3-4 of the best right away and not wait to culture them further. Their philosophy is to do a blast transfer when there's a good chance of many good embies, but this time they figure it might not be worth it. The final decision is tomorrow a.m., but at this point, that's the plan, so I'm going for acu at 8:30 (luckily, right down the hall from my RE), then the transfer's tentatively scheduled at 10 a.m., then my acu actually comes down and does the post-transfer acu treatment right there in the transfer room.

Sher does something called cgh in addition to PGD apparetly PGD doesnt test for everything that can cause the mebie to be Anueploid>> good luck on transfer.. how cool the acu is right there

NY: Tough call on which Dr., but it sounds like you really connected with Dr. Sher. It may be worth it to wait an extra month.
Best of luck with your decision.

My ET went well today. The embryo's were not perfect, though, so I'm a little worried, but there's just nothing more to do now but lay here for 2 days. We transferred 4 embies - one was a 10 cell, the other 3 were 6 cells. The best were graded "3" (4 is best, 1 is worst) and one of them was only a "2". There were two more left and they'll see if they make it to blast, in whch case we'll freeze, but they didn't give it too much hope for that.

NY - it sounds like the cgh is much more accurate than pgd, then, so that sounds really promising. Hope your next consult goes well.

Take care e1 - I'm off to my 2 days of bed rest....

Over 40 BUT do not feel over 30 :-)

Post by Hil »

Hi everyone!
I just wanted to introduce myself. I am 43 and just started trying to conceive at 41.
I got pregnant (naturally) right away but it ended up in a miscarriage. Then 4 months later another miscarriage at 8 weeks. So now at 43 --I jumped straight into IVF. This is my first cycle, and I am now in the 2ww and sooooooo scared.

It is,however, nice to now there are other 40plusers out there with success! Question: Does anyone know of any fertility clinics that specialize in woman over 40?

Good luck to everyone!

Hil,

Good luck in the 2ww .. its brutal. Where are you located?

I dont know of any clinics that specialize but there are some that are known for success with older woman. The Sher clinic is one www.haveababy.com they have a few different locations. . Also CHR in NY.

How did you respond to themeds?

Suzhan,

I havent decided on which Dr yet.. I am waiting for immunilogical testing to come back. I also have another comsulation with a Dr Toth of the Maccleod laboratory tomorrow..

any news on your end?

Hi NY4thTry!

Thanks for the suggestion!!!

I am located near San Francisco....I noticed that there is a Sher Clinic in Sacramento. Maybe I will consult with them if this cycle does now work out--I feel like my clinic does not want to treat anyone over 40. They definitely do not encourage IVF w/natural eggs.

I responded OK. I actually think they should have triggered me a day b4 they did because at that point I had 14 follicles and by the time they did trigger I only had 9 that were not too mature. (over 25 mm) Argh!
I guess they do not know how the body is going to respond either....

Unfortunately, I only had 6 that were viable and of those only 3 were transfered....

Sorry that was a long reply to how I responded to the meds!!!!!

And yes, IVF does take over your life....But I have to keep it undercover because I am driving my husband CRAZY!!!!!!

I am 41 and trying a 2nd time. The first ivf 2 years ago resulted in a healthy baby girl. My retrieval is tomorrow.

Hil, I am so happy for your news. I only had 3 good eggs transferred 2 years ago and remember you only need 1 good egg to get a good result. you responded really well already!

I only have about 8 good follies now measuring well at about 19 mm or so. Just praying for 3 good ones to be transferred again. We are at Duke in NC.

I just miscarried at 18 1/2 weeks with a baby having a chromosomal disorder in June so we really are praying for a healthy little blessing. Being over 40 is scary at times with all of the doom and gloom from docs but all of these other women give encouragment to me.

Let's keep this over 40 thread going.....There are lots of us out here.

Hey decided to crash this thread since I am 42. I am doing my 3rd IVF this time and have 2 embies on day 2 with a transfer tomorrow.

My first cycle gave me 5 embies and 2 implanted, but lost one early and the other later due to a massive flare of lupus (newly diagnosed). I am now on meds and ready to get pregnant, but my last IVF yielded two embies that were very poor quality.

I am hoping for better luck this time, but still just have the two embies (4 cell and 2 cell today - day 2).

I will try CCRM in Denver --(highest rates for us older gals) if this fails (insurance covered these three rounds but will cover no more).
