We have been thinking about names for years - well atleast I have and DH finally joined in about 1 year ago. We would like traditional English names - all these crazy names today are a bit much and the traditional ones will actually be unusual ones
But DH wants to name the child (if boy) after his father...and to be honest I love his father but really, really don't like his name - somewhere we will find a compromise!
I actually have a 'motif' I want to use for the baby's room - dragon flies and butterflies...I have it all pictured in my head - now that is scary. DH would think I was nuts if I told him I already had these thoughts.
I don't have any lists of names as such but both DF and I were wowed by Bjørk's daughter's name, Isadora. We were not so impressed that the royal princess born this weekend is called Leah Isadora.......
Our daughter was Leah until an hour or two after she was born when we decided she didn't look like Leah (more like a skinned rabbit but no one thought that was an appropriate name - lol).
Just a quicky for Tracii. . . . . .my husbands gran was called Hilda Olive, tho everyone called her olive, which sweet as she sounds like she was is not usually a name u pick for a baby, is it?! Maybe you can find a compromise like his brother did when he gave his daughter the middle name of Olivia, a slightly more modern version??
Or have your DH's fathers name as a middle name in honour of him?
Just a couple of thoughts, thers always a way round it!
Good luck with the name decisions..........

Hi Toni - middle names are a most definite compromise...my father's name is also not on the top of our list...the problem with the FIL's name is - there is a song in Germany/Austria/Switzerland that is usually song at Oktoberfest or anyother big gathering - Apres Ski, Parties...it is called 'Anton aus Tirol'....my FIL's name is Anton and whenever I hear the name I start singing this stupid, stupid song
Another thing I learned - is never tell anyone what you want to name the child..everyone has an opinion. I always wanted Gillian for a girl and I told my mother and she said 'Oh I know a Gillian and she is such a snob I really couldn't handle my granddaughter being called Gillian'...but if you wait until after the baby is born - noone can say anything
DH + I have had various fantasy conversations about names but always forget to write them down ... every now and then a name comes back to me that was a firm favourite a few months back and I think "what the hell were we thinking of?!".
Taylor Jools' comment near the beginning of the thread made me laugh ... the one about taking 4 dogs for a walk with twins! I was taking our 2 hounds for a walk yesterday with the 2 cats (who tag along from time to time) and as the biggest one ran off after a police horse, the little one was being soundly rogered by a yorkshire terrier and the cats were chasing ducks by the canal I had exactly the same thought!
what you need is a baby name book once your precious embie takes.....then you can look for a variation of Anton. My book mentions all sorts of wierd alternatives for names - but i dont really know any german ones. (Would you be sticking with german??) hers a wierd alternative - did you know that another version of Sarah is Morag????? how wierd is that? - nothing alike...........
PS Anton is a version of Tony/Toni, and means priceless, so i would be honoured if you called your baby something like that!! Only joking sweetie
Also, its always hard when people tread on your names, you are right. i have had it in the past with Katerina - but the way i see it...........its MINE and DH's baby and OUR choice and WE are the ones that are going to be saying it day in day out for the rest of our lives! Screw anyone else! I mean we already have a friend with a little Thomas for a son - but my baby boy is still going to be Thomas Harley (both these names are from my grandfathers!), unless we decide on the day he and his sister are born that he doesnt look like a Thomas....... Took me a while to convince my DH about Thomas.......but when i told him the meaning was actually 'Twin' he came round............
Can you tell im a big fan of meanings??
let me know how you get on - im rooting for you on the 19th!!!!
Love always

if we would have had our daughter we would have named her after her grandmas and my sisters..
she would have had 4 names..
and then we would have to come up with a nick name cause we really didnt like any on them..
we werent blessed with our babies to raise here but we our blessed with our grandaughter
and all of our many adopted and foster children that touch our lives
and i am glad to add that our 6th grandchild will be born this spring!!!!
my consultation is on May 2, 11am (OZ, EST). I am getting little bit nervous about this now...
If we have a boy he will be named after my hubbie's mother's maiden name - bacause our grandad is TOP! It is a name for the girl I am always searching for......... Abigail, Adelle, Anastasia........ Zoey, Zina.... AGH!
