Did anyone have a positive downs test via blood work and had an amnio done and downs was ruled out

My doc recommended not even bothering with the tri test as with twins the results are not accurate. For sure they can tell you more with the u/s.

Congratulations Hayley, what wonderful news.
Yes you do get bigger earlier (I was large from the start really due to OHSS) the morning sickness can be worse ( although I can show off and say I had none - sorry).
I am having the best pregnancy ever and I hope you will too.
Try not to worry about having twins. I am sure your body will cope brilliantly. Nature does funny things. You will be fine (and yes alot larger, but hey, won't it be worth it) Just try to relas, sleep alot and don't over do it.
I have no other children and am so excited about these two. People have said a lot of negative things like, all the sleepless nights, double the crying, double the feeds, double the trouble!!! etc but look at it this way - double the kisses and cuddles, double the smiles, school reports, christmas stockings to open and double the fun. I can't wait.

Denise and Ahart - I also was not given the option to have triple test. It's not accurate as they wouldn't be able to tell which bubs is the risk. Have you not been offered a Nuchal Scan? Normally done at around 12/13 weeks. Much more accurate nowadays.

KristiA - Hope your cold is better now. How are you feeling hun?

Would be nice to hear from any others, how is everyone

I was given the nucheal scan and the DR stated that everything looked normal. I had the blood test done and the lab goofed and only screened for a single pregnancy and had to redo the test for the 2nd time that came back with a 1/186 chance of downs, the nurse faxed the results to the U/S Dr...of course they're closed today. Me and DH talked and ruled out an amnio b/c ofmy current condition and also we decided that if 1 or both have downs we will love them the same.

Ahart - I tend to agree with you. I always thought (and alot of people would disagree, I know) that if I was told a had a baby with ds, I would probably terminate. Before I had my nuchal scan the doctor asked what decision I would make if one baby was ok but one wasn't. At that point I realised I would have to keep and love both. It's a very very tough decision for anyone to have to consider, but even more so for us girlies.
I would also decline an amnio. I think you are doing the right thing.
I am sure everything is going to be great for you. Enjoy every second.

Hi everyone. Just came back from the holiday and catching up. So much news! Ok, sorry for the long message...

Ahart, I'm so sorry to hear you had the news that makes you have to consider the amnio. I almost did the CVS, but decided against it due to the risk. Then I did the nuchal and all came back normal. I was so fearful of having to make the decision of the amnio. If you wouldn't terminate one, then it probably makes sense not to take the risk of the amnio. On the other hand, the amnio is quite routine and the risks are minimal. Sounds like you feel good about your decision!

Denise, I wonder about you often knowing you are at 33 weeks. So many of the books I read describe best rest, uncomfortableness, and preemies around your time. Yes, I'd say it's normal to wish to have them early!!!

Daniella, I am so sorry about your news about one of your babies. It must be so devastating for you. I think you will be so close & care so deeply for your other baby when it's born as you know truly what a miracle having a baby is.

Hayley, congratulations! Oh yes, you get bigger quicker than everyone else. I've already gained 30 pounds at 21 weeks. I had to wear maternity clothes around 10 weeks. People ask me when I'm due and I say "in about 4 months" and they can't believe it.

Chelle, yes, my cold is finally gone! Glad to hear everything is going well for you. I agree with your positive attitude on having two babies! It's a unique blessing!

Kareen, I hope your appointment this week goes well. Let us know!

LOL

That will get much worse, trust me. In your third tri when you can't fit everyone else's full term mat clothes, then it really gets to you.

Not too much longer for me, I think. After an uneventful second/third tri healthwise, my bp is now up, and there's protein in urine..... maybe another week or two, then baby time!

Exciting, Denise!!! So do you look back and think the 9 months (roughly) went really quick? Do you feel ready? Have everything all set at home?

Kareen, I started wearing maternity pants at about 10 weeks. Go ahead and buy some...they are so comfy (no snaps, buttons, etc...just pull up). I had many people warn me that what fits me at that time won't later...and they sure were right. I bought a bunch of clothes around 10 weeks....now at 22 weeks several of the items I can't wear already, so I need to shop again. So I understand what Denise is probably warning us about too with the 3rd T when nothing will fit.

My babies are kicking like crazy now. They started about 3 weeks ago. Now they kick very often and I can see my stomach move. I know, Denise is thinking "Oh Kristi, just wait a few more months!!".

Take care all!!

Enjoy your second tri! That's when I felt the best. And the kicks are good when they don't make you barf or pee your pants!

And yes, I did go through three sizes of maternity clothes, med though to XL. My wardrobe is very limited now, but it will do me for a couple of weeks anyways.

We're not ready yet. DH is finishing the construction in the hall, and then we'll assemble the nursery. It's all here, just not put together yet. Hopefully we'll finish that before we have occupants for the room!

The smell of food makes me sick
the smell of smoke makes me sick
the smell of drink makes me feel sick
EVERYTHING MAKES ME FEEL SICK  AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Langton:
:D
Try some warm tea and drop a peppermint in it. This helped me through some of the sickness....until I got tired of drinking tea. I love fresh tomatoes, however realized that I have to slice them and warm them in a skillet and they will stay down. I ate alot of chicken noodle soup, I stayed away from the foods I knew would make me sick..Saltine crackers did not work for me, howver you may want to try them if you have not done so already.....ohhhhhhh another thing try licking some salt when you start to feel sick..my mother told me about it and what do you know...it worked...I also drank warm milk....I'm pregnant with twins now and I had a very bad case of all day sickness...so bad I was put in the hospoital for severe hyperemesis...dehydration...stayed there for 4 days. Now I drink alot, mainly clearish liquids...me and water don't get along well...I also ate alot of jello and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.....Try not to let yourstomach get empty. I eat about every 2-3 hours daily...not big meals..now I'm sick maybe two times a week.....which I will take over everyday sickness, I would eat and lye down afterwards...try not to because it slows your digestion down and you food will just sit on your stomach and sour then up it comes. I hope that what I've shared helps some and I'm sure some of the other mothers can offer some remedies as well.

Talk to your doctor. Mine was bad enough that I was vomitting everything too, and ended up in hospital for dehydration twice. The doctor can give you meds to help that won't hurt your babies, and make your life worth living again.

Gee, what kind of advice can I offer after Ahart's & Denise's??? I didn't suffer anything like they did, although I felt nauseus everyday, all day, and sick occassionally. The thing that helped me were those accupressure wristbands. They are only $10 USD and sold at any pharmacy. They were originally made for sea sickness, but now are recommended for pregnancy nauseu also.

Denise, M to XL, huh? Everything I have is M right now too. Pants are too tight though and I can't wear those. Shirts are snug & I bet I only have a few more weeks with those. Then I'm up to L. Guess I won't buy too much L knowing XL will follow as well.

I just bought my crib bedding & all the accessories & room decorations today. I'm so excited. I walked in to buy the set I wanted and they said they would give it to me at 50% off because it was being discontinued. Bonus! So I bought every accessory I could get!
