sunny- everyone's ER seems to be different. With my first ER, I remember some abdominal pain when I first woke up, but it was fine after taking some pain pills, I went back to work the next day. With my second ER, I was hurting pretty bad for a couple of days, and Dr thought it was because I had more follies and one side was difficult to get to (maybe due to childbirth?) and he did more poking and prodding. But both times I was put to sleep and do not remember any of the actual procedure.

ET is fine, they ask you to come in with a full bladder because it is easier for them to see on u/s where the embies need to go. So most ladies end up having to pee pretty bad, you go in, they put the embies in you through a tiny catheter and then you have to lay there for like 10 minutes while having to pee really bad. But no pain or anything for ET.

Good luck, I am sure you will do just fine.

(((hugs))) sunnygirl, you will be just fine, promise!

ER - my only complaint was I was hungry in the morning but couldn't eat. :D The process itself was great because they put you out, and the pain/cramping/soreness afterwards was very tolerable for me. My only problem was I had a little difficulty when they brought me out of the anesthesia. I was shaking uncontrollably, so they had to give me demoral. After that, I was GREAT! As for the rest of the day, I used a heating pad once for about 20 minutes and didn't need anything else for the pain. By the second half of the next day, I was totally pain/cramp/soreness free! I'm not sure if they're having you take medrol or not, but if they are, be aware that you may not tolerate it well. I didn't at all, but I suffered through it for 4 days and was done. Not everyone reacts so terribly though, so don't worry about it.

ET - turns out I had WAY too much water in my bladder. When they say 32 oz, that's not necessarily right for everyone. But they told me it is much quicker and easier to empty out the excess than to put in what is needed. Like I said earlier, some woman caused the rest of us to be an hour behind because of it. Grrr. The actual procedure was PAINLESS!!!! The only discomfort I had was when my doctor was cleaning my cervix before he put in the catheter. I did not feel the catheter at all, and that was the part I was the most worried about.

Dogz- I had the same issue with the full bladder. 32 oz is WAY too much. They sent me to the bathroom twice before the procedures to let some off. But I'm glad it went well, and now we get to wait together! How long are you on bed rest?

Sunny - That sounds like terrible care for your nurse. My pharmacy was mail order too, but until they talked to me about filling the prescription, there was no payment. (I think I've used both Schrafts and Freedom - my doctor uses whichever one he has coupons for at the time, since we're self-pay).

PIO is progesterone in oil - intramuscular injection like the HCG shot. You'll start progesterone supplements after retrieval and continue until either a negative test or 6-10 weeks. Either suppositories, gel or shots. My sense is that lots of women use it with some discomfort, and that you can do a few things to help (warm the syringe under hot water to thin the oil, rub the site afterwards to help it disperse, and go for a walk or something to work the muscle). But I guess if you have a lot of pain/swelling, you should let your doctor know. It's all very confusing, because I think we get into the mindset that pain is a necessary part of this process. To some extent is is, but I guess that my reaction could have turned into a really bad bacterial infection. My lesson - it never hurts ask!

Babies- I know 4 doesn't sound like much, but it's enough! My first cycle, I think I was so worried that I would have zero (using ICSI for male factor), that five sounded great to me. I still have three of those to use for FET if I need to. Just think positive thoughts for those 4!

Cheekyone - I love the globe idea! I'm a complete nerd in many ways, including that I love maps, so I totally appreciate it!

beth - we just posted simultaneously. :D I'm on bed rest through today, but that doesn't mean I have to be lying down. He said sitting is just as fine, he just wants me to stay at rest, not lift anything, not take care of my two doggy daughters, etc. Hubby's doing all that atm. :D Did you get a picture of your two little embies?

OH MY! Let's see if I can keep up here!

Kayce! I cried when I read your post. SOOO happy for you!!! Hope all those Positive vibes roll over onto the rest of us!

Babies I'm sorry you feel down, but remember it takes just one. And you've got four!

Dogz Congrats on your super embie!!!! Now begins your wait :)

Miyaya I'd definatly be bringing my concerns up to the clinic. You're paying for this and you deserve to be treated like you matter!! I dont blame you for considering another clinic if this gets postponed. My dr's office said that the polyp weren't a concern. That if I do not get pregnant this time they will remove it before the next go round (which won't be a concern, since I AM going to get pregnant right?!). They said they don't worry about them if the are not causing problems. Let me know what they say about yours.

Sunny Good luck w/ tomorrow's u/s and YES Ask all of those questinos!!!

Beth Hoping those embies stick! Good luck with your 2ww. I'm so sorry about your terrible reaction to the PIO. Scares me to start mine!!

Pathfinder Good luck with that trigger tomorrow! I had no problems with mine last night. Looks like we'll be transfered on the same day so we'll be 2WW buddies!!

Not sure if I missed anyone. There are so many of us right now!!

AFM: I had my trigger last night. My husband was getting woozy just looking at the needle yesterday. I was concerned he wouldnt wake up since he is a heavy sleeper and they had me take it at 1:45 in the morning!! HAHA! Well, God was with us last night because I FORGOT TO SET THE ALARM!!!! and my husband, who struggles to wake up with someone or something stirring him awake, woke up out of the blue and 1:50 a.m., turned over to me and said "Hey! Aren't you supposed to be taking a shot right now?!". THank goodness because we would have missed the boat.
So far I've got no real side effects other than my butt hurts a bit. My husband did a great job. Was proud of him!!
I was SO SICK yesterday being off of all other meds. In fact, after lunch I got sick and couldnt eat anything but icecream and a spoonful of greenbeans for supper! I have a definate aversion to meat- ew! Even just thinking of it has me sick.!
Very very nervous about tomorrow!!

My ovaries are way way way less tender today. Is that normal after going off of the meds and on to the trigger?

dogz - of course we posted at the same time! Yes, we got pictures of the two blasts - they are very pretty. Last time, we named them Stinky and Blinky, but this time, we're thinking Itsy and Bitsy.

lw - I felt a lot better after the trigger too, and it worried the heck out of me, but it was fine!

Sorry, I didn't mean to scare anyone about the PIO. It seems like most women have no problems, or just some bearable discomfort. But for me, I had been feeling like I just had to deal with it - we're already willing to make so many sacrifices to have our babies. It was a good reminder that if something feels really wrong, it's okay to ask the doctors/nurses about it. My doc said that being miserable is not a required part of this. In my case, after the third shot, my DH looked at it and said, "no way this is okay."

I just wanted to thank you for all the kind words, it means a lot.

It was interesting reading about the PIO shots, I had read in one of my books that taking suppositories is an option but when I aked my doctor he said he didn't want me to take it that way because it was messy. I said I would prefer a mess over a sore butt. Regardless, I was given shots but I am thinking about switching.

dogz and beth I am praying for a BFP for you both!

I am getting so close, just counted 3 weeks until I am in "hopefully" in your shoes... so it is so great to read all the updates so I can get a sense of what to expect.

Thank you all for taking the time to post.

I have been thinking a lot about how many embryos to transfer and the doctor said he would do two but I am thinking about asking him if he will do three when I see him this Thursday. He said he wants to do two since I am under 35 but a girlfriend of mine just did three and got pregnant with one baby.

((((hugs to everyone)))) Lots of sticky thoughts and baby dust to all!!!!

well my clinic finally called back. they finally have everything. However, my doc is off site today and cannot review results. I was kinda discouraged b/cwe are supposed to start lupron tomorrow. He better get back to me!! Also, I did find out DH SA showed his count was low at 17million. So they are recommending icsi too. I know very little about it. Does it impact the chances any? I mean, obviously it puts sperm right to egg but does the insertion impact egg quality at all???

cressicaw - I'm in a similar situation with determining the # of embryos to insert. I'm 30 and thinking about 3 as well. My DH says we'll decide after we know how many were retrieved and the % fertilized. The RE recommends 2 for me too. I'm won't have any (or little) insurance coverage after this try with IVF; my insurance has a lifetime max AND i'm not sure i can go through this process again physically and emotionally. I definitely want more than one child and its seems pregnancy is going to be a challenge AND we're not opposed to multiples. Good luck with your decision.

My RE recommended ICSI for us too. There is some descent information about it online here:

CT-Michele, dogzrule & beth 84- Thank you so much for explaining things and for all of the great information. I continue to read and look things up on the internet, but nothing beats hearing something firsthand! :)

beth84- you actually named them? you and your DH are hilarious! that sounds like something my hubby would do! hey, thanks also for the PIO story....it's good to keep in mind.

cheekyone- i LOVE that you have a map! i'm a teacher and enjoy doing things like that too! i hope the 2ww goes by quickly for you...and yes, i have decided to talk to the admin about the nurse tomorrow. life is too short and this experience should be enjoyable.

lw918- thank goodness your DH woke you in time. i think that is a sign for you! :D i hope the polyps don't hold you back on any part of the process!

babiesgalore- 4 sounds great to me! hang in there and keep the PMA!

miyaya- sorry, i wouldn't know what other clinic in your area to recommend to you, but i would address the issue at your clinic. i know i plan to address mine tomorrow. this is WAY too important for some dopey nurse or staff members to ruin for any of us! keep the faith and feel free to vent to me!

gi- i bet you've thought about robbing a bank, i know i have and it's only our 1st ivf!!! if you try it and get away with it, do share the details so i know how you pulled it off. and i have to tell you that i am doing the same thing......trying ivf over the summer so that no one at work has any idea. i don't know about you but i live in a small town where everyone knows EVERYTHING about your personal life. i am currently in nyc taking a "professional development" course for my teaching license! although i'd say it's no lie, this process would qualify as professional AND personal development thanks to you all! 8)

We've done ICSI both times (our problem is morphology - DH usually has between 0-1% normal on that test, even though his count and motility are fine), so the likelihood of fertilization without it for us is pretty much nil. Without ICSI, we'd really have no options at all.

From what I've read and been told by my RE, about 70% of mature eggs will fertilize from ICSI (the process does damage some of the eggs), but once fertilized, they don't see any differences between ICSI and regular IVF embryos.

hi all

I'm having the worst sinus attack today - I cant breathe at all
hope that you all are having a better day than I've been!

Kayce - CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! :D

Iamhopeful - Welcome!

miyaya -it sounds like you really need to get on top of this nurse! I can say this because I am a nurse also, but its either that they are totally overwhelmed with too many patients, or just completely lazy! I have had issues at my clinic also. I absolutely adore my RE, but he has 1 nurse that is completely flaky. A month ago she mislabled a b/w vial causing my dosage to be lowered - they realized it a day later, but my cycle was cancelled. I dont know if that had anything to with it, but I know that being cancelled sure tacked on alot more costs for us. My point is that costs all of us alot of money, time, & emotion. Its not your job to coordinate your own care.

sunny -You should be getting all your questions answered, even if they are busy. You should ask about the 81mg aspirin regimin too

cheeky - I LOVE the globe idea! I'm always surprised at how neat it is to have so many women on here from all around the world :D
Yeah, I know - I'm a dork!

Gi - If this cycle doesnt work for me, I'll be with you on the bank heist!

babies - 4 fert is a vey good number!! Any more news on them?

lw918 - Good luck with your ER tomorrow!!

dogz & beth - wishing you both Sticky thoughts & plenty of patience dust for your dreaded waiting game!

michele - How goes it with you?
