Blair- Evie feeds anywhere from 15 minutes (on my faster flowing left side) to 40 minutes (when she is clearly just pacifying). There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it. My lactation consultant did say that anything over 15 to 20 minutes on one side is probably just pacifier time. But she also mentioned not to stop that time because its a signal to the body to make more and a great natural way to sooth baby. My pedi did say that as she gets more interested in the world around her she will feed much more efficiently and for a much shorter period of time, maybe even less than 10 minutes. Given where you are in gestational development that sounds about right to me!
Plus if you just transitioned to solely breast milk it would make sense that your body has also upped the production. I am no expert at all, having only breastfed for three weeks but it all makes sense to me. Of course when in doubt just do those weight checks. That is ultimately all that matters.
LOVE THE PIC IN THE UK ONSESIES! I am convinced that the Cats are going to make Evelyn's birth year one to remember by bringing home a championship.
We are all doing well at home together, thanks for asking. As you know it is a lot of work but is also totally wonderful at the same time. We had a big day today, more on that in a moment.
Annas- he is growing like a weed! Love the pics and can't believe he is such an old man!
Gina- holy helmets! And I thought IVF was expensive...hope your insurance picks up that tab. They should! Your babies are just beautiful...
AFM- somehow I missed the last 10 days or so of posts. Sorry!
What a big day we are having today! First, Evie's due date was yesterday. There is something about being past that point that makes me feel better. I don't know, like it immediately made her just a little less fragile. LOL. But the best part of this weekend? DH gave Evelyn her first bottle of breast milk and it was a raging success! This also means that I left the house without her for the first time since she was conceived. I did cry...and yes I was a little jealous that she took to the bottle so quickly and well...but overall I am thrilled. I am thrilled that DH had that special time with her and even got her to sleep. He was a proud and puffed up Daddy indeed! I am also excited to have gone for a walk. Just a few more weeks and I will turn that walk into a run.
Let's just hope she still wants me for her next feeding. She was satisfied and sleeping in less than 20 minutes on the bottle. That is tough to compete with to be sure!
If all goes well tonight, I am having a glass of wine tomorrow. Woot woot!
