I had constipation alot when I was pregnant. If you read back on the Sept 2008 Baby thread you will see that I the same incident and my DH put the gloves on and went in. It was the worse feelin of my life. It goes to show that these guys actually go through alot too. I had so many little problems and worries all the time and my DH was there every step of the way. He even went as far as telling me he wish he could carry the baby just to take some of my pain away. He thought it wasnt fair that I had to go through all the pain. Not only with the pregnancy but with the whole process of the shots and all.

Well I found comfort in apples. If you like apples or apple juice. This works wonders. The saying a apple a day keeps the doctors away go a long way in pregnancy. I took prenatals and additonal iron pills so constipation was my best friend and the apples helped a good 85% of the time if I ate them every day or even every other day.

Just wanted to chime in and offer any advice that I can.

Good luck and Merry Christmas!!!

IVF #1: POSITIVE - Michaela born 9/19/08
IVF #2: Consult on 10/13/09 - Start BCP Dec since clinic will be closed for the Holiday.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all!!!!
Doreen, my friend! thank you for keeping an eye on me :) you're so lovely. My goodness, Michaela Skye is simply adorable and her mommie is gorgeous, hehehhee. Dad looks so happy too. Awwwww...I spent so much time looking at her pictures, thank you for sharing them with us.

Thank you for your note on pregnancy symptoms and such, it's a good reminder of how this process can be at times. It's hard not to worry sometimes, it's good to have friends like you to calm me down. For the most part I feel well, I'm just concerned with the baby being too low (it might be just in my head, but it's one of my fears, I need to clear that out with my midwife during my next visit).

Merry Christmas to you and your beautiful family. HUGS.

BABYLOVES---oh God, your story sounds so painful. I'm glad it had a "happy ending." I just told DH about it and his response was "I hope that doesn't happen to you because I don't know if I can do that...I'll just keep giving you prune juice." Can you imagine? after all I've had to (and will continue to) put up with and he won't touch a little poop. Anyway, thanks for sharing your story :? Keep eating those prunes!! Let me know if you need some more, I can send you some for Christmas,

esperanza: thanks for comments...u made me laugh  - yeah, i thought my DH was special for doing that, but i think washingtonda is right that DH's do feel bad for us...my DH's appetite for (food, not sex :? ) is also extremely large. He insists on 3-5 prunes each day for me..so i'll be taking prune donations from now on 8)

washingtonda: thanks for the apple advice...it didn't think about that - yesterday i had a lot of pineapple which looks like it would have lots of fiber too..

Have a lovely pre-holiday weekend everyone!!

babyloves - Phew!!! what a horrendous experience!!! But than good that we have special people like our DH around us....yours being the special one!!! tap from my side too... :D
Ok, here are my two cents!!! Make sure you start your day with a fibre rich breakfast, oats being the best choice. eat plenty of fruits in the whole day time with everything else you want to eat and end you day with a warm glass of milk. Also take your iron pills with a glass of orange juice or any other juice which is rich in vit c. This way iron absorption in the body is best and also the best time to take your iron pills is after u have had your heaviest meal of the day. Taking it any other time causes constipation!!! I hope this helps. :)

Hugs.....take care...and grow bigger!!!!

Its been a while since I have been here so I haven't read all the post but I do see that most of you are starting to get those uncomfortable feelings of pregnancy. Please, Please, Please just relax and enjoy every minute. Don't worry about anything. You are all fine. For me it seemed that after that six months mark things started to go downhill as far as comfort. You will feel back pains, butt pains, legs pains, tit pains, chest pains, hand pain, stomach pains. It's all a sign that the little one is definately in there and that he/she is doing its most growing.

You girls will definately need to get yourself one of those body pillows from month 7 out. That was truly the only way I could even get to sleep some nights. Most nights I needed it and some nights I found that I was more comfortable without it. Just a regular pillow tucked between your legs don't do the full job. That whole pillow curved around you feels like heaven. That's be the best $60 that you'll ever spend during pregnancy.

Well I must go but you girls keep up the good work. The holidays are here and before you know it they will be gone and just a few months after your new little ones will be here.

As for me, we are looking forward to our first Christmas with our 2008 bundle of joy Michaela. There are tons of new pictures of her on her website, please take a look www.michaelaskye.shutterfly.com. She is truly our blessing from GOD!!!!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all!!!!
Hey Doreen

Its always pleasant to have you here with your wonderful insight!! Your baby is just too adorable and I just love the eyes. :D

I am short and on a heavier side...and my weight gain is also going on humangous scale...basicall beacuse i have been on minimal activuty since the beginning. Tucking pillows on all my sides ebacomes absolutely essential when I sleep. But I will ake your advise and go for tht special pillow. I hope I can get it here.

Merry Christmas and happy new year to u and your family!!!

Sonu, what a scary experience! Nice to hear it was only an imbalance on your vaginal Ph...with the fungus taking advantage of the situation. Now that you are back home...use the internet to browse for presents - we sould not go shopping that much as we may forget to eat, to drink and to rest...I loose track of time when I go shopping...which I don't do very often :) this year I am saving catalogs just to brainstorm gift ideas so I don't need to stroll up the Mall that much.
Wishing you a calm, healthy Pre-holiday week!

Hey Luciana

Hope you are doing great with your babies!! Happy shopping on the internet. You must be planning to buy baby stuff too. It will be interesting to see which colours will you go for.

I will accept that I had become complacent in my diet etc. which caused that horrific incident. Anyway, back on track and just in week's time my haemoglobin level shot from 8.8 to 11.3. :)

Take care...HUGS.

Hi Romi

I have a beautiful (from heart) friend named Rumy...similar to your name. :) She will aways remind me of you..or vice versa.

I am all for fibre, iron and protien rich diet these days. he he...i don't know where my weight gain will reach this way. Since I am a vegetarian, I take lots of fruits and green with beetroots, carrots etc. And half a ltr of milk everyday...I never thought I could eat this much.. :D

My sister is doing good, waiting for her next cycle to begin which will be later Jan.

And talking about discomfort I would say, when I feel normal I start worrying... he he. stretching, discomfort pain is always in there in some part or the other of the body and I feel most movements in the lower abdomen may be becasue I have least fat accumulation there. :)
Otherwise poking is very common.

Hope you are having a great pre holiday weekend!!!
Hugs...

Hi Ladies!

Just crashing again to say hi to esperanza and to wish everyone a happy holiday!

Esperanza- I keep checking on you to see how you are progressing. I am glad your semester is finally over. I remember when we cycled together last year, that was a big stressor for both of us. I took 2 independant studies this semester and only completed one. I have to take an incomplete for the other and add it to my 2 courses of work for next semester. Are you taking next semester off?

Want to hear something funny? I never knew your name was romi! I even refer to you as esperanza to dh! He use to read these forums with me when we were pregnant, but know i just update him.

babyloves- sounds like a horrible experience. must be nice to have a dh that is a dr, i can imagine that will come in handy and i bet he has seen a lot worse! I have always struggled with constipation since i was little, it seems to run in the family with girls and unfortunately my little doll Ella has had some tuffies already too. we also take it very seriously here cuz my grandma is a colon cancer survivor. For some reason, I was ok during my pregnancy, but just after I had to go see a specialist. After delivery, i went back on a low carb diet and do not get enough fiber, so he told me to take fiber supplements and colace. They also gave me colace at the hospital after delivery, but i do not know if it is safe during pregnany. It is over the counter and has helped a bunch.

Washintonda- good to see your still around. I checked out michaela's website and she is precious! Enjoy your holiday with her!

sonu- i am on the heavier side and that body pillow for pregnancy really helped. i didn't think i needed one, but my brother got me one for my bday when i was 4 months pregnant. I am not going to say i ever slept like a baby (which, by the way, i know realize is a pretty weird expression since most babies don't sleep well...lol) but the pillow is worth getting. you should be able to get it almost anywhere, babiesrus, target, walmart and if not, always online for probably a better price.

As for me, Ella is doing fantastic, she is such a joy! I kind of started working again. I am tutoring at my old school for $45/hr but it is only 3 hrs a week. It is really just to keep my face in the school system maybe for next year, but we will see since we might be planning baby #2! I also have a shutterfly site for her like doreen(you guys should all set one up when you deliver, its so easy and free), and please feel free to check out her pics (ellamichele.shutterfly.com) I update it every few days since I have a lot of long distance friends and relatives there are a lot of cute holiday pics up there now.

Everyone have a wonderful holiday and think how much more fun it will be next year! I will check in on you guys again, and as you guys shop for stuff, don;t be afraid to ask, I did a lot of baby stuff research!

Hi Michelle!
Thank you for checking on me :o) I always enjoy reading your posts and appreciate your honest advice, it's so helpful!

I understand the incomplete, I took a couple of incompletes while going through IVF, I just didn't have the level of concentration, my spirits were not in a place to produce intellectual work. Of course, with a newborn I can't even imagine!!! I'm not taking next semester off. It will be challenging but I prefer to do that. I might end up taking an incomplete or two and finish them over the summer, I'll play it by ear. I'm hoping to finish my doctorate as soon as I can, so I don't want to take time off (if I can help it!).

About my name, hehehee, I guess I've become "Esperanza" through this forum (it means "hope" in Spanish, and that's one of the few things that has kept me going all along). I've even considered naming this girl Esperanza...but we'll see! you can continue referring about me as Esperanza, I actually like it ;)

Ella's pics are SO cute!!!! I love the ones of her in the santa suit AND the one where she's lying on your chest...so tender and adorable! God bless her.

Merry Christmas to you and your family. Let us know how you plan for #2, I'm interested in learning about that since we might follow that route soon after this one is born. HUGS

Hi Lovely Sonu!

Good to hear you're doing well. yay! I'm glad my name can be associate it with people closed to your heart :)

I know what you mean about "feeling normal" I appreciate it but sometimes it makes me wonder "is there anything going on in there?" "why are you so quite today?" hehehhee. I feel her low for the most part, that's why I have this feeling that she's too low, but I have no point of comparison since my first pregnancy ended at about 10 weeks. I'm going to talk about it with my midwife on the 30th when I go for my appointment. I can certainly feel her much more now...of course, that makes me happy :)

My love to you and your sister.

Esperanza- I just wanted to say I think Esperanza would be a beautiful name, so unique, pretty and with a lot of special meaning and significance behind it. Even if you don;t end up using it as a first name, maybe a middle name? I like the ide and you will of course have to let us know what you decide. I even looked up esperanza on my favorite baby names website (www.babynamesworld.com) It says it was derived from the latin Sperantia, meaning hope, which i also like as a pretty name. You should check it out, awesome site, tells you everything you could want to know about a name, they use surveys and ask people who have the name, just click on the tabs that say "considering the name," "popularity," and to see all that stuff.

I will definitely keep you updated on number 2. I will probably go to my clinic for a consult close to summer. I definitely need to get the timing right this time and deliver at the end of the school year instead of the beginning, so I want to go early enough in case we run into problems again. Everyday I think more and more that we will try again soon. As Ella is getting ready to play, I want her to have someone to play with besides for me. I actually just signed up for some parent meetup groups in the area, so hopefully that will go well. I think it is so important for them to interact with other kids.

Well, Have a very happy holiday! Atleast you are someplace warm for this christmas! Enjoy, as we gear up for storm 2 of 3 for this week.

Hi ladies!
Glad to hear that everyone is doing well! Babyloves what a horrible experience! That must've been sooo uncomfortable. Sounds like you have a wonderful DH. They do come in handy from time to time don't they. :D

Sonu~ I hear ya about being on the heavier side. I started this pregnancy at the heaviest I've been in a long time. I recently went to the city with DH and the girls, and when I saw the pics of me I was like "who is that????" As far as the sleeping goes, definitely try to find a body pillow. I swear by mine. I've had it since I was pregnant with my first in 1999, and it's great. If you can't get it where you are, try the internet. Good luck. Glad to hear you are doing well after your scare. Stay well, and keep us posted on your sister.

Hi Luciana~ how are you feeling? How are those 3 little girls treating you. I hope you are going to someone elses house for the holidays so you can kick back and relax while others wait on you. :D

CT~ Happy holidays to you, DH and your beautiful little girl. It will be so wonderful, and speaking as the mom of two girls ( 9 and 4), I can tell you that it gets better and better with each passing year. Their eyes tell it all. Enjoy!

Romi~ Glad to hear that you are doing well. It was my birthday on the 19th, and we had a whopper of a snow storm here. A group of us wound up going out to celebrate last night, and as we left the house it started snowing again. The weather is going to be crummy all weekend. I really started thinking about the boob tracks in the snow

What is everyone doing for the holidays this year? Tuesday night DH myself, and the girls will be going to an outdoor light show that you drive through while listening to Christmas music. We visited the tree in Manhatten on Thursday and then went to the Radio City Christmas show. It is really nice, but soooo expensive! Christmas Eve we will go to my cousins for dinner, and then my sister in laws for desert and a visit from Santa. Christmas day will be at my house. I hope you are all getting ready to have a wonderful holiday!!!!!!

I'm glad to hear you had a good time with your friends despite the loads and loads of snow you guys got this past weekend. I can honestly tell you that I am super happy to have moved to NM :) Hopefully the snow will melt right before you can leave those boob tracks...hehehehhehe!

So nice that you were able to visit the big tree in Manhatan, and the show at Radio City Hall, I did that about 7 years ago, I remember it being lovely, with the Rockets, and everything. YES, expensive but worth it ;) Enjoy the lights tomorrow night.

My dh is going away for a couple of weeks to visit his family in the Caribbean (he hasn't been back in about 7 years, so it's about time!!!). I will miss him but I'm glad he's going, he's worked so hard this past year finishing his dissertation and being a new professor that he needs a break...I don't want him to collapse  I will stay here, chilling, nesting, and doing some writing. For Christmas eve and Christmas day I will stay with friends, I'm so looking forward to that, I love being around loving people in these special occasions. They have asked me to bring my comfy pj because we're going to do a whole lot of lounging around (movies, reading, talking, EATING!!!)...oh, lovely! Right now, I just feel proud of myself because I sent lots of greeting cards and a few presents to relatives and friends, I'm usually really bad at doing that, but this year I feel like a very accomplished woman, I guess I'm ready to be a mami
