Lou - call right away and ask because most OBs don't do the Nuchal since they need a super US machine for that. Usually is is a different outfit that does them, the they combine the AFP with the nuchal measurements. My OB does not do it I had to go to UCSF to do this. It is between 11 weeks and 16w6d so if you need to get an appt with someone else I suggest getting that info from your OB soon, and then after week 18 you get your level II and quad test.

SD - I put my elliptical in the living room so that DS can play next to me or if you do it when he is not around put a fun show on TV and time flies by! Yes it is not as fun as outdoors but better than nothing I have horrible allergies here and sometimes it is unhealthy for me to go outdoors so I had to adapt.

Dr Boots - wow - trips! Congrats, what is your EDD?

Leora - I am thrilled for you hun! Take it easy and you get to meet those little beans that will stay put for 9mos!

(cross posted on the IVF - Winter Board)

Today started off great. I met with the RE and filled out the paperwork for the OB. I went to the biggest OB clinic in my area and asked for an appt with the highest risk doctor. I made an appt with the doctor for next week and an u/s a week later. They drew some blood for basic blood work (blood type, rh, etc).

I went home to take a nap. I woke up at about 11:30am and thought I had wet the bed. Nope - not urine. Blood. Lots and lots of blood. They say to keep track of how long it takes to fill a pad -- I literally could not get a new one on fast enough. I was gushing and gushing blood.

I called the IVF clinic, since I still don't really have a doctor. They pulled some strings and got me an u/s at the hospital. At noon - both babies were still looking good (heartbeats and all), but the blood was everywhere. After my transvaginal u/s, the room looked like we had killed someone. I was gushing blood everywhere.

I was admitted for observation for a 'threatened miscarriage'. The bleeding stopped completely around 3pm. My cervix is still closed. All of that is a good sign.

No one knows where the blood came from. I'm spending the night here (super lonely!) and we'll have another scan tomorrow. I'll let y'all know how it goes....

I have my laptop so I can watch movies. There is wi-fi, but it's flakey.

I just want to cry. I've had a textbook pregnancy so far. These are babies #4 and ##5.... how can I lose sooooo many? This is so unfair.

Leora: Please don't count them as lost... You are still pregnant, your cervix is closed. You've got a bleed and you are in exactly the right place. I know, after what you have been through, this has got to be frightening. I was really hoping for a scare-free pregnancy for you :( Please keep a positive outlook - the babies are still there and are okay. I'll be thinking of you.

Hang in there Leora. I'm sorry you are going through this. It could have been a SCH that bled out, or it could be that one is forming. Deep breaths and try to relax. Stress makes it worse, which I know it a reaction that is hard to push aside. Praying for you that all turns out to be okay. I hope they make you feel at ease by scanning you every so often to be sure all is going well still. Will be thinking about you. Huge Hugs to you, from a Mama who knows how great a loss you have been through personally.

Leora - I am so sorry for the scare but the important thing is that the babies are fine and the bleeding stopped, you still have your babies and you will have your babies. Mellow had such a huge scare early on also and look at her now, two grils kicking mommy! It will all be well, we are all thinking of you and praying for you.

Leora~ I also wanted to let you know something that my RE informed me of when we found out we were having twins. She said it's very likely to have bleeding episodes with multiples, for reasons they don't understand. More often than not, the bleeding ends and the pregnancy continues to go on to full term. It's something that is monitored, but they still don't know what causes the bleeding. Obviously a SCH would be visible at some point, unless it has completely bled out, but it means that part of one or both in my case, of the placentas, has pulled away from the lining of the uterus. I was told that continuing the progesterone injections would help maintain the proper levels needed to support the babies while the placentas healed and grew to the point that they were able to take over complete function at 11-12 weeks. Have you had your progesterone levels checked to be sure they are high enough? It's supposedly support for SCH. Something to think about, or insist on.

On a different note...I just wanted to share with you how many pregnancies I have had significant bleeding in the first trimester. 4 times, and every time it's scared the crap out of me, and 3 of those times I was told I lost the pregnancy. Every time they were wrong. This one was the worst, and it didn't look good at all. My little ones are kicking me as I write this. I pray you don't lose your little precious ones. PM me if you have any questions, praying for you.

Leora - hang in there, those babies are stuck in there for another 7+ months. Your body is just trying to freak you out and doing a good job at it. Send tons of positive thoughts that those babies are just fine.

Dr. Boots - i think i remember you from your last cycle. sorry about your loss but Congrats on the triplets.

Leora - I'm sorry you're going through this scare! I do believe that everything is going to be fine with your little ones so you just rest up and let people take care of you. HUGS!!

Dr Boots - Welcome and congrats on your trips!!

Chris - I think your numbers are doubling nicely! They just want to see them double every 72 hours. My numbers slowed down too with each draw. I had 2 sacs but one never progressed beyond a yolk sac so now I have a singleton.

Hi Leora, sorry you're having to go through this. I am with mellow's suggestions as I had a subchorionic bleed (gushing) during the 1st trimester and it bled for 4 weeks straight. Through much prayer, faith, and hope my little ones survived and thrived and I'm looking to meet them in less than 3 weeks. So be encouraged, this is not the end.

Believing in the best for you. Keep us posted as you can.

Leora: I had a similar scare in my first trimester. I woke up to go to work and as soon as I stood up I had a major gush of blood. My sweat pants were completely soaked from top to bottom. My husband saw how much there was and called 911(which is where I work, embarrassing). Got to the hospital and they told me the same, a threatened miscarriage. Had an ultrasound 2 hours later and the babies were perfect. Then they found the SCH, at least we had an answer. I had 2 more big episodes after the first one. They will become less scary. I bled for over 2 months so don't be surprised if its longer than what the doctors tell you, I believe they told me 2-3 weeks. Its definitely more common with multiples. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Try not to be too stressed, it's not good for the babies.

Rio -- I'm so glad you told me to call my OB office. I did that and got my appt for the NT scan and AFP bloodwork for April 5th when I will be 12w4d. The OB office I go to has a sonographer and a good u/s machine who does them right there, so I'm all set. Thanks :-)

Leora -- I am soooo sorry you are having this scare. But you are being monitored closely and your babies are all right. You said the bleeding stopped? That's a very good sign! It most definitely sounds like a SCH like the other girls said. Take care of yourself hun.... I believe that your babies will be alright. I am praying soooo hard for you.

Happy Bunny -- That's interesting about the epidural class. You must tell me what they tell you! I am a pharmacist and work in a hospital. So my dept makes and sends the epidurals. I'm just really curious!

to_have_fun -- Ha... yeah, ab's are difficult to tone while reading or watching movies...lol. I do read a lot but usually in bed right before "lights out". Right now I'm reading "The Girl Who Played with Fire" the sequel to "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo". I admit, I do have trouble sitting through a whole movie. I tend to watch a lot of comedies. I like to laugh. Long drawn out drama's make me cringe (The English Patient comes to mind when I say that). As for the doppler, I think it's a great thing to have. Especially for $60! I think your beta #'s look FANTASTIC!!! Definitely at least a strong singleton pregnancy in there! Again, I am sooooo freakin' happy for you. I've watched you go through so much heartbreak on this board it's awesome to see you have success. You didn't give up and I'm proud of you for that.

JustlikeHannah -- Holy Cow! Look at your ticker!!!! You've only got a month left! And with two, probably not even. So excited for you!

AFM -- Yesterday I was exhausted and it's my day off from working out (thank goodness). I slept for nearly 10 hrs last night and today I feel great with tons of energy! Kinda sucks cuz I'm heading off to acupuncture now. How the heck am I going to relax when I'm this damn wired!!! I wish I could hop on my elliptical instead and burn off the Chinese food I ate for lunch instead.

Leora: I am so sorry you are going through this. Please don't give up yet. I had a SCH and had 4 major gushing episodes and bled for over 2 months. I know you are scared and worried. I have been where you are and here I am at 37 weeks. As with so many others, there is a good chance that things will get better. I will keep you in my thought and prayers.

Leora - Stay strong mama! Mellow and all the other ladies are right, these bleeds are very common with twins, especially IVF twins. I'm so sorry that you have to go through this. I, too, was hoping for a boring ol' pregnancy for you. Try to stay positive, even though I know how difficult it is to that when a bleed happens. I had two big ones at 6 and 10 weeks. We're all here for you! ((((HUGS))))

Dr. Boots - Welcome and CONGRATS! Triplets, WOW! Triple the kisses and giggles! How wonderful!!! :D

afm - Quick update on my OB and her rude nurse... I finally fired them! I seriously couldn't get any sleep last night because I was dwelling on a conversation that took place last night where I was basically told "tough". That and she said my OB wouldn't sign off of my disability forms that I need signed by her in order to get paid during my time off because she feels "women should be at work".

So, I called a girl I know that works in that office and she pulled some strings to get me on with the OB she works for. We switched all of my appts over (the first 3 are with the OB so we can get acquainted) and got everything straightened out with the note. She said she can't state that I'm "medically" unable, but that I'm "physically" unable to work. Which is the way I asked my former OB to do it in the first place.

I feel like such a heavy weight has been lifted off of me!

Hi all,

My twins came earlier than we expected! My pre-eclampsia turned from mild to severe on Monday so the OB said it was time to deliver! My cute little Hamilton weighs 4 pounds 14 ounces and my little girl Shelby weighed 4 pounds 10 ounces. They are small and had some trouble getting their body heat regulated, but they're doing well now. I had a C-section and have been taking some slow walks around the maternity ward to speed up my recovery. So far the post-op pain has not been as severe as I thought-I think the meds are working well!

Leora- I am praying so hard for you right now. I have read that SCH’s are pretty common and hearing everyone else’s stories made me feel better for you, hope they help relax you as well!

Kay- we would like to wait until 8-12 weeks to tell people. Our immediate family and closest friends know, but that is it. The waiting for the u/s is PURE torture but you will make it!

Rio- my EDD is Nov 6th, but I have been told, I will be lucky to get to Oct!

Chris- Thanks so much! Glad to see you here, your numbers look great!

Stephanie- Good for you! I cannot STAND people who think they know better than you! Stupid nurse, now I dislike her too! Hope you love your new OB

AFM- for whatever reason I was awake from 330-530 last night and could not get my mind to relax and every once in a while I would have very dark, disturbing thoughts. I finally fell asleep around 530 and of course the alarm went off at 6! Oy, I was dragging this morning! But my day got better, the weather was GORGEOUS! And I got to have dinner with my BFF and tell her the good news, she is due in June, so it’ll be great to go through this together! Have a great night everyone.
