Hi everyone!

Not long now for a lot of you! Hoping that with the birth of your babies a lot of your side effects improve or go completely. A lot of you really seem to be suffering :(

Little P - Hoping you wont go over your due date and your baby arrives soon! I have to say I actually missed been pregnant a few days after Jenna was born and wished that I had more pictures of myself while I was carrying her. I even thought I felt something move at one point!! It sounds really strange, but I felt sad, thinking even if im lucky enough to get pregnant again, I wont be pregnant with Jenna again!!! Must be my hormones. Somehow, I always felt she was safe inside me, must be the protective instinct! I cant believe she is 4 weeks old today! Time is certainly flying.
Cant wait until a few more of you have had your little ones and we can chat about them all on the other forum.

Take care everyone!
Love Kim

Hi everyone - well I've had an eventful week - I thought I'd got head lice from a friends toddler and went to chemist for advice - anyway later on Tuesday I discovered a whole load of crawlie things in my bedroom and after calling pest control it turns out we had a bird nest in loft - birds had left and their 'mites' had descended into the house looking for a feed! Us!! So we now have a bird mite infestation which is costing an absolute fortune to eradicate and will take best part of 3 weeks to sort out. Its horrid - I've disinfected everywhere and stripped all beds, curtains etc for dry cleaning - I've ordered carpet cleaning firm and am so busy trying to get the house back in order. On top of that I had to ring the hospital last night because I had such a weird thing happen - I'd been busy all day and sudeenly realised that the 'bump' had dropped completely - it was really odd, the whole top of my pregnancy had emptied leaving a strange jellyish sensation and my baby seems to be right down in the pelvis. I went for scan today and its measuring big for dates and is already 6 1/2 pounds. I hope I come early because at this rate I'm gonna have a huge baby!!

Hope everyone else is doiing well - sorry this post is very 'me' - there;'s just so much happening at moment. I'm thrilled with Smita's news and can't wait for Lil P and Esther's too.

Love to all and welcome to Vicky

My goodness it sounds as though you're having a horrible time - I hope you get your house back to normal as quickly as possible. Keeping fingers crossed that it doesn't take too long.

Good news about the baby being ready - that could mean you're early couldn't it? I had a scan at 36 weeks and the baby's head was fully engaged, then when I saw the Midwife this week she said that Little One had dropped even further down - though you wouldn't guess it from the shape of the watermelon I'm still carrying around with me ....

Don't do too much will you - remember to get plenty of rest and put those feet up whenever you can.

Take care and big hugs

Hi all and thank you for your welcomes

Everyone seems to be having really interesting times at the moment. Cheryl I really hope you can get rid of the mites - sounds horrible (not to mention itchy!).

I just wanted ask your opinions about something - well two things really.

First thing - I live in small country town and am going to the local community hospital for ante-natal care. They are very nice and because it's so small you see the same person every time. However also because it's so small they do not have an intensive care unit. They also don't do epidurals (although at the moment I don't want one - easy to say now!).

They sent me to Bath Hospital as it the nearest big hospital to us and is where people are sent if there is a problem in labour, to see if they thought it was okay for me to have the baby at the community hospital (just taking extra precautions due to IVF I suppose) and Bath said they wouild rather I had it there. However when I told the midwife this she thought it was ridiculous and said that as they had not given any reason other than it being an IVF baby I should decide 'nearer the time' and said that I could still have it in Devizes if I wanted to and seemed very keen for me to do so (they are currently having a battle with authorities who want to close them down and I think every patient counts).
At Devizes they are v. keen on natural births and non interference (they hardly ever induce etc) which sounds good but what if there is a problem - every time I mention it to the midwife she says decide nearer the time - but when is that - I would like to have it set in my head where I'm going. I don't know what to do!

The second thing is just that I have only been given to two hour parentcraft sessions - they don't teach you anything about breathing in labour - just give you a quick run down on what will happen - does that seem enough? - does anyone have any suggestions about where I could learn about the breathing prior to the event as I'm a bit worried about it as I used to have v. bad panic attacks - and labour seems like a good place for that to happen to me! I'd like to be prepared! I have tried the National Childbirth thingy but they were all fully booked.

Anyway I had better stop asking questions now otherwise I suppose it's just possible that I might just use all the space left on this thread!!

Sorry this is all about me - I hope everyone has had a good morning so far. Love Vicky

Hi again - another busy day for me - got builders in plugging holes where birds have had access to loft and continuing disinfecting as more eggs hatch and then die! Thanks for good wishes Esther, Lil P and Vicky - I'm trying not to do too much but its so hard because I would love the house to feel all ready. Never mind - all things happen for a reason and thank goodness its happened now rather than just after baby arrives.

Lil P and Esther - hope you both don't have to wait too much longer. I'm sure the dropping thing isn't an issue really Esther - as you say it often happens in labour. Lil P - yours seems all poised to emerge now - maybe you should try some of those home remedies for encouraging labour if you know what I mean!! It's so exciting - good luck both of you.

Vicky - I've never heard anyone suggest IVF babiies are in any way 'at risk' of more difficult birth - I don't think your hospital; is justified in suggesting you would be better there just because of IVF unless there was some underlying problem that you would already know of. As you say, maybe theres another agenda. I think the best thing will be what feels right for you (and you will know) just close your eyes, concentrate and imagine that you are just starting labour - where would you feel happiest going to? Are you filled with reassurance at the thought of the hospital with chance of epidural, lots of medical support in case any is needed or does that prospect fill you with dread? Are you looking forward to the cosy, homely feel of the midwife service or do you have a nagging worry of 'what if' (panic attack, pain relief etc)? Only you can truly feel what's right for you and I think it will come to you over the next few weeks - don't rush the decision and just let it emerge - one option will feel much better than the other - I would go with that. I know where I would go but I won't tell you because that doesn't seem fair - we all have such different needs and I don't think you should be too influenced by what others want - this is about what's best for you and the baby. As for breathing techniques, have you tried searching the net? I've definitely heard of some DVDs and booklets that can be ordered but I can't remember where I read about them - probably a baby magazine. Don't worry too much though, I'm sure the midwife at labour will give you loads of help - I know people who never went to a class and just relied on midwife for any info. Anyway, hope you manage to get it all sorted so you feel happy - Good luck,

Love to everyone (Jacs I will text you once things settle down here)

Cheryl

Glad to hear you're not doing TOO much - I bet it's difficult though!! I hope that everything gets back to normal as quickly as possible.

I'm trying all the home remedies you can think of - any suggestions greatly received. I keep tidying things and moving around in the hope that it might trigger something to happen - anybody any ideas?

Anyway, hope you are all taking care and looking after your bumps

Dear Cheryl

Thank you so much for your intuitive reply - very good advice trying to imagine it happening. In my heart of hearts I feel I would rather have the baby in Devizes with the midwives because it is so much more relaxed and the whole atmosphere is less pressured. I also can't help worrying about what if something goes wrong but as you say I'm sure I will be leaning in one direction by the time I am about to pop.

Glad to hear you've got people round sorting out the infestation. THanks again. Love Vicky

Hi Lil P and Vicky

Lil P - I was thinking of the rude suggestion!! Hope you don't mind me mentioning it! Hope you get some movement there soon (baby I mean, not hubby - that could have sounded really rude!!!)

Vicky - sounds like you do have a good feeling for the midwife unit - go with your instincts - you'll be happiest and if there is any problem they'll be able to whizz you up the road to the hospital

I am absolutely washed out this week after such a ridiculous week - I'm about to make a movement chart because I'm sure the baby is moving less and I want to keep an eye on it.

Love to all,
Cherylxxx

Hi everyone

Vicky - Welcome to the 3rd Trimester! I thought Id pass on my labour experience using breathing if you're interested! I did go to NCT antenatal classes (Like you I only had 2 NHS ones!) but although we did learn about breathing during labour, it was something I taught myself through other information I read. I found www.babycentre.co.uk useful. There is lots of info on labour and birth (as well as other useful stuff!). The main thing with breathing is to concentrate on your outbreath (Since its automatic that you will breath in). Breath in through your nose and then blow out through your mouth, making the outbreath last longer than the inbreath.(Breathing/blowing out all the air) I found if I started panicking a bit, just bringing my concentration back to my breathing helped keep me calm. ('Belly' dancing ,Tens machine and Gas and air also helped!!) Get your birth partner to help remind you of your breathing as well. If you practice before the birth, it will come naturally to you when you need it. I also listened to Natal hypnotherapy CDs from 33 weeks onwards. You can get these from www.natalhypnotherapy.com. I mainly concentrated on them during the last couple of weeks. I also did a yoga for pregnancy video. I have to admit, I got frustrated doing the CD because I never felt hypnotised, but I was so calm during labour, Im sure it helped! (Im not normally that calm, but I felt in control and knew that I was ok). I know I was lucky that I had a straightforward labour with no complications, but it was a very positive experience for me. Good luck!

Little P - Are you drinking raspberry leaf tea? Its meant to help bring labour on (it apparently also contributes to a good labour as well, it helps prepare/tone the uterus). You can drink it from approx 35 weeks (Some people say earlier) and build up your intake up to your due date. You can get it in tablet form if you dont like the taste, but I quite liked it! I wont describe what else me and DH did to bring labour on (!!) (you can use your imagination) but I didnt need to eat the pineapple I bought!!

Cheryl - Hope you are feeling better. I do remember reading somewhere (I read an awful lot, so have forgotten where from!) that babies can slow down their movements later on because they havent as much room to move around, but you're right to be cautious.

Hope everyone else is ok. My little angel has just slept from her last feed at 10.30pm through to 5.30am! I woke up in a panic because she doesnt normally go more than 4 hours! Not sure if I should be letting her go that long, but she did have a fussy day yesterday of wanting to feed and be held constantly, so she was probably worn out!

Take care everyone
Love kim

Kim

Definitely enjoying the Raspberry Leaf tea - it's yummy and am drinking it by the bucket-load at the moment. There are other factors (obviously the same lines as you) that I won't go into at the moment, but hoping that they might help out!!!

I am so impatient, I never realised how excited I would get at this stage.

Well done to little Jenna - you must be thrilled at getting some extra rest.

Hope everyone is ok.

Dear Kim

Thank you for your good advice - It is the breathing that I am most keen to get right as it's the breathing that worries me when I have panic attacks so I want it to be completely second nature. It sounds like your birth was fantastic - did you manage a natural birth?
I have just ordered a book on the Lamaze technique and will definately have a look at that website. Thanks again Love Vicky
