Welcome to DJB. I delivered my first child at 42. You have come to the right place for support and advice.

Hello to everyone else. Sorry it has been awhile since I have posted. I have tried to keep up with everyone's news.

We had a very nice Thanksgiving holiday with our families. We did lunch with DH's family and then mine came over to our house for dinner and all stayed the night. I had 16 people overnight!

Andrew is getting a little better with his sleeping. I'm reading a book called, "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Baby". It has been a very good book on sleep related issues. If any of you have babies with sleep issues, please check out this book. Thanks for all of the sweet things said about my little "Tigger". He really is such a joy.

Chriss and Sonia: Glad to hear that you both are starting your meds.
What a wonderful Christmas present..............a BFP.

Amy and Andrew: It is good to hear that you are cycling now and will have completed your IVF by Christmas. A BFP would be a great Christmas present.

Luanne: Glad to hear that you and twins are doing well? Are you going to find out their sex? I could not wait until 16 weeks. I just had to know and convinced my Dr. to let me have an ultrasound.

Jen: I'm so glad to hear that you are in better spirits! What are champers and chocs?

Gracielope2: I'm glad to hear that you are looking at all of your options. My niece offered to be an egg donor for us if we needed one. I thought that was so sweet. However, my Dr. discouraged it, saying that it might affect her later on in life. She is very young and has no children thus far. I guess he was concerned if she could not have children later, it would bother her to see a child that was biologically hers.

Hello to Catharine, Yasmina, Anna, Kat, Bev and anyone that I may have missed.

Regards,
Tammy

Hello to everyone & welcome to DJB!

so great to hear that everything is a GO for you, sonia! wishing you lots of luck that AF comes as planned -- I expect her this week - so, you are right - I'm about a week ahead of you. Got my "toto lotto" box in the mail recently as well. I am able to go to my local doc for all my tests, which makes things easier. On the request of the RE in Austria, she even gave me my initial shot last week -- just counting down the days till the stims start on the 1st....I'm sure your lining will be just perfect, so keep up the PMA and not to worry! And the fact that things all seem to be falling into place for the best for you at work this time around are all good signs for a positive outcome!!

chriss -- SENDING YOU LOTS AND LOTS OF PMA :D :D :D :D The doors are wide open for all things positive and good. Why start thinking about how it might end in a negative, when you have only just begun? Of course it could - but you mustn't dwell on that, because you also always have the even nicer chance that it could/will be a positive...LuAnne and Yasmina are terrific examples of how it all can work and they have both said how important it is to think positive, think pregant, think baby, think of your future family and gather lots of warm vibes to shake out those cold negative ones! Bake your christmas cookies thinking about the embies that will soon be joining you and how nice that will be to eventually share that with your child. What is your schedule like this time around? Wishing you ALL THE BEST!

Tammy - thanks for posting and for offering your words of encouragement and support. Glad to hear you and andrew are working on a better sleeping schedule, that must feel good.

Andrea - how are you? have you decided in which direction to take your journey?? And, don't worry about the ranting and talk -- that is exactly why we are all here. We can all relate to what you are saying and are always here to listen and offer support. I'm sure we've all had lots of moments of doubt and uncertainty. A few weeks ago, I was also quite down - not knowing if I'd ever get the okay to cycle again and was so disappointed, thinking that the DHEA would always keep my spirits up -- and even that let me down -- so, feel free to write and say whatever, when ever -- we are here!

Gracielope2 - how is your cycle going? hope you and the meds are getting along better. what is your schedule like?

JenB - hope you and DH had a great weekend away from it all and enjoyed yourselves!

Anna - thanks for thinking of us and wishing those of us cycling lots of luck! It means a lot to know we are thought about and the support is there.

LuAnne - can't wait to join you on the BFP list! -- at least that is my plan come new year's. Hope the others cycling at the same time will be there as well!!! :D :D :D

Lots of baby dust to everyone cycling or about to cycle before the end of 2007! BFP's for all of us! -- Then JenB can start off the BFP list for 2008!

Love and regards to everyone I missed!

Hi Ladies, Having a PMA is key. I can't believe my retrieval is almost here. I went for blood and sonogram - Fri, Sun, and today. Met with RE he said everything looks good. I have lots follicles growing, but it's not quantity it's quality... right! I was on BC for 28 days, Lupron 14 days, Follistim 10 days and Metformin. RE thinks I will get the HCG shot tonight, which makes retrieval on Wednesday.

DJB -Welcome to the forum.

Sonia - Great news! Everything will go smoothly for you. The fact that you got the ok only tells you that everything looks A-OK. It will be smooth sailing from this point forward.

Chriss & Ladies: You mind is a powerful thing - so let it work for you., in a postive way! Everytime you find yourself thinking negative, try and turn it around. I'm going to be pregnant this time around. This time around my follicles are going to be perfect, I'm going to have a happy healthy baby. I'm going to be pregnant for the holidays. Today, I am choosing to refresh my self-image by speaking "positive" affirmations.
I truly believe all is possible if you believe, "I" believe God has a plan, and I also believe I have to have faith in order to make what my heart desires possible. I must not go around thinking negative thoughts, because negative things will come into my life. Even when things dont' seem to be going my way, I must have the attitude that they will go my way, because I know there is hope amd God is the light in my life, and I will find that light at the end of the dark tunnel.

Andrea: Your decision is not easy, you will be at peace when you do.

Amy: Your PMA and words of encouragement - couldn't have come a better time. I'm reading this book by Joel Osteen - he's a pastor and he talks about positive thinking, of course in a bible way. When you were saying how to think baby, think pregnant... I've been trying to do that these past couple of weeks. So thanks..... :P

If I forgot anyone....sorry! Sending all of you ladies PMA, and baby dust.

I do have a question about transfer. Would you ladies transfer 3 day or blastocyst. We tried blastocyst 2 times and 3 day 2 times. I was asking RE he said to wait until after retrieval to see how many fertilize. I was talking with DH and thinking if we can transfer more on 3 day, than I would rather do that. We tried 4 embroys each time, if we are blessed with more than 4 embroys this time around, then I want to transfer what ever we have and take it from there.

Any thoughts!

Hi all,

We are back from Denver and we had good time with ski and our semi-family reunion - except this year's snow fall was not as good as other two previous years. Here I am showing you all our little girl fighting with Daddy for a good beer after a day of skiing! No, she did not hit the slope, but she was thirsty too!

Welcome, DJB. Trying to get a baby is a long term project - we are here to support each other.

To everyone who did not mind my last post: the encouragement was for myself too, you know. I needed it since I was struggling in writing a grant and part of me was willing to drop it since the chances of getting it funded was SO unpredictable - much like going through ivf cycles. Eventually I came to a state of acceptance and started to tell myself, "as long as I did my best, the rest would not be anymore of my concern" - I mean it will not be my fault.

Jen B, sorry that your DH was almost had enough of the seemingly endless ivf cycles. Have you come to any alternative ways to become parents, or he wanted to stop of thinking about it for a while? This coming last frozen cycle will be very important to you and I wish you have a strong heart beat this time!

Anna and Tammy, glad to hear from you. Happy to know that Andrew is doing better. Eloise still refuses to drink much milk at daycare and it has been this way over two months now! Since she drinks at home and she has not seemed to loss any weight, I am not overly concerned. Our 9 month's appointment with her dr. is coming up and we will find out if we need to do anything special to improve this.

LuAnne, glad to know that you are enjoying your little ones. Sorry that we have not had too many other over 40 future mothers with you this time, but I am sure everyone still remembers the worries that we had during our pgs. I am sure that you also have your worries too with two lives in the tummy.

Sonia, good that your international travels slow down now. I am excited for your coming cycle. Yes, the AF should not be messing up and lining should be perfect to conceive! Flights will be expensive, but it's better to be relaxed at home during the 2ww.

Andrea, how was your appointment with RE? I personally prefer yoga and exercise than drinking the foul tasting herb tea - yea, I had that a lot when I was little, I threw up each time! Generally, if your RE has seen you for a while, he/she should have good suggestions as to using DE or your own eggs. Good luck on decision making.

Chriss, Amy, and Gracie, good luck on your cycles! Do online shopping, do online reading blogs, do whatever to calm your mind and welcome a bfp in the end!

Gracie, I just about posting this one and saw your new post. I transferred 6 of 3d embryos last time and we only had one! My RE prefers to transfer 3d embryos than 5d blasts since this clinic has more success and experience on 3d embryos. However, it depends on different embryo labs and REs. I think you should say to your RE: transfer as many as your think that will bring us a live baby! You have too much on your shoulders already, let him/her take the responsibilities this time! All the best!

Yasmina

Yasmina: Thanks for your reply. Makes me feel much better. Your daughter is beautiful. God Bless Her.... :)

Just got call from RE - it's official HCG will be tonight and retrieval will be on Wednesday. Looking foward to transfer, I'm going to go with my gut feeling, day 3 with as many embroys as we can transfer.

Hi ladies - I've dug up the old list from waaaaay back and did my best to update it..! Sorry if I've missed anyone or made any errors but please amend it as you like.

Welcome to DJB!

Yasmina - Eloise is a girl after my own heart - especially with a good drink in her hand!! How very cute!

JenB - My DH is coming to the end of his tether with all this IVF nonsense too, (both financially and emotionally...) so I think I may be pushing it to try one last cycle with my own eggs. You, however, have some lovely frosties waiting for you with every chance of success. Can you transfer the frozen embyos to your local clinic in Scotland? It would save you travelling abroad and economise in time and costs. They are frozen in time so you can then use them any time you wanted. That way, you can have your fresh cycle as well as your FET. It would be a real shame to let them go to waste...
Anyway - hope you enjoyed your champers and chocs (always a winner with me!) and they helped softened the blow somewhat!

To all the girls cycling this month -
Gracielope2 - My clinic prefers to do a 3 day transfer as they believe that the embyos have a better chance of survival the sooner they get put back into their natural environment in the womb. However, different clinics have different protocols and it's best to take your RE's advice. GOOD LUCK for EC tomorrow!!! Hope you get loads of eggies...

Chriss, Amy Sonia - Thinking PMA and sending loads of it your way!!! (I know! - positive thoughts coming from me!!!)

Catharine - Any news from our friend AF?

LuAnne - always good to remind us of success stories. Glad your pregnancy is going so well. You are my inspiration for 2008 now - Yep - Twins will do very nicely thanks!

Well, Ms Ambivelent is still here- sitting on fence about things for a bit longer. :? Last Sat, my RE enrolled us for rare opportunity for a DE sharing scheme for next month(!!), which if it comes through we'll have some DE frosties on hold. It will be too late to synchronise our cycles at this late stage. I'm keeping my fingers crossed but I'm not sure that the Donor will consent to share at the moment but I'm so hoping. (Please, please, please!) My RE still thinks I can still cycle next month with my own eggs if I wanted to since I've been priming up for this one last go but DH is pushing to go straight to DE as he is coming to the end of his rope with all this... Also AF usual comes 2nd week of the month which may mean Xmas day EC and New years (eve) transfer (knowing my luck!!). The embryologist also takes his annual leave end Dec so there is a possibility, if I do have a fresh cycle it won't be until Jan 08 now! Decisions, decisions! At least I have a plan B in place now so am slowly getting my head around things (but apparently not fast enough)...

Big hi to all the other ladies reading patiently through my rants!

Andrea x
DOWN BUT NOT OUT...

4 rollercoaster yrs of IVF using own eggs, then -

1st IVF (DE fresh) Jan 2008 - BFN
2nd IVF (DE frosties) May 2008 - cancelled

Hi Andrea, sounds like you and DH have a lot to think about and I wish you all the best. Wish I could say I've been there and this is what we did -- but there are many on this thread who have had this decision to make and will help you in any way they can. Go with your heart and the opportunity will present itself. I think whatever makes you & DH feel most comfortable and gives you the most positive feeling that with this kind of cycle we will be successful will be the best choice.
PS - thanks for finding the list!

Yasmina - Eloise is such a sweetheart. A great snapshot! Thanks for sharing it with us!! Your calming words & gentle inspiration are wonderful.

chriss, gracielope2 - how are you?

JenB - you've got a bit of time to make a decision about what to do next, don't you? so, maybe you just need to take a breather and enjoy the holidays with friends and family and wrap your heads around what the future holds once the new year begins and see how you guys are feeling. It's been a very intense time for you and DH leading up to this last cycle and now you've both just come off of a high that turned into the lowest of lows. I can imagine how wiped out you must be feeling, and DH too - those guys keep so much inside till they can't anymore, don't they... I encourage you to take a step back and see how you are feeling in the new year. Thinking of you!

I'm just waiting for AF to arrive this week. JenB, could you do one of your famous jigs for me? -- then I can start stims on Saturday... :D

Big hello to the rest of you gals! Take care of yourselves,
xx amy

KIWI EXPAT – I hope you are one of several to join me on that BFP list. 2008 promises to be an exciting year on this thread.

GRACIELOPE – I hope all goes well for you over the next few days. My clinic’s embryology team examines the embryos frequently to determine rate of cell division in the hours after fertilization. They tentatively plan a Day 3 transfer, but when they have several well developing embryos, they hold off & do a Day 5 transfer. We had 7 embryos at the end of Day 2, so they decided to do the Day 5 transfer. We transferred 2, froze 3, and 2 didn’t make it. If I had had to make the decision on my own, I would probably have gone w/the 3 day transfer. I was braver because I had the embryologists experience to assist me. This is just one of those areas in which there is just not an exact way to proceed yet. Either way, just keep the PMA for a holiday BFP.

JEN B– I sincerely pray your final cycle is magic. I do not need to tell you to have a PMA, as you have such a wonderful attitude already. With me, I felt I had to give motherhood my best chance. Then if it wasn’t in the cards for me, I would at least know I tried. DH & I have a wonderful life together, and would have focused on doing all those exciting things parents don’t get to do. It is apparent you & your DH also have a fantastic life, even without children. I pray you have peace in your heart with whatever decision you and DH make.

TAMMY – Yes, I hope to learn the sex, but our insurance recently changed, & I had to switch doctors. The new doctor reviewed all the info in my file & is not doing another U/S until December 20th, which will at least be a nice Christmas present. I remember asking you a year ago, if you had thought about what Christmas would be like w/your new baby this year. Now you have that handsome little guy filling you w/unspeakable joy & I am here imagining my Christmas next year w/2 new bundles of joy.

YASMINA – Too bad you didn’t have more fresh powder for your ski trip, but I’m sure it was a nice time anyway. When do you find out about the grant? Good Luck on that. By the way, Eloise is just a beautiful little doll!!!

CHRISS – I keep thinking about you and wonder how you are doing. The things you have dealt with touch me so personally. I want badly for you to succeed because I would feel that personally too. Keep the PMA, do the yoga and whatever else makes you feel good. Acupuncture is good & I always enjoy a good relaxing massage. In the weeks leading up to my last ET, I exercised regularly, ate exceptionally healthy, meditated, wrote in a journal, and took a lot of time to be by myself and think. I got plenty of rest & pampered myself, but I also made sure DH & I had romantic couple time scheduled in. I truly believe it made a difference in my attitude. I was calmer. I know there are a million factors beyond our control, but I believe attitude is vital in IVF, and at least we can control that somewhat. Best of Luck to you.

SONIA & AMY – Praying for Christmas BFP’s for you two as well. What a wonderful Christmas gift that will be.

Welcome to DJB! Any word from CATHERINE recently? If so, I missed it when reading over recent posts. Hello to anyone I may have forgotten.
