Hi Vicky

Yes, I did have a natural birth and it was a wonderful experience for me. After hearing lots of horror stories from (well meaning!!) friends, (Why do they feel the need to tell a pregnant woman about these experiences?) I wanted to do all I could to help myself. Im not saying it didnt hurt, but I would describe it as a positive pain and I always felt in control. I know I was lucky that everything was straightforward, I didnt have to be induced and Jenna was in the right position (Not with her back to my back which I was worried about). But I do wonder if everything I did helped as well.
I can also emphasise with you about the panic attacks, so understand why you are concerned about the breathing. A couple of years ago, when going through quite a stressful time, I started having problems with my breathing, which although didnt cause full blown panic attacks, caused me to hyperventilate and feel out of control. I was lucky that I had a very understanding doctor who signed me off sick and with time I was able to sort myself out without medication, but it did have a lasting impact on me. Whenever I had stressful situations to deal with, I could feel my chest getting tight again and I had to know when to start taking it easy and avoid getting as bad again. So I was also worried about how I would cope during the birth, but I was fine! (Gas and air was great as well!!!)
Good luck with everything!
Love kim

Dear Kim

Thank you for your very positive response - it's very encouraging! I'm so glad it is possible to feel in control. When I last saw the midwife I asked her about breathing techniques and she said 'oh we don't really teach that here, we find that it is just as good to tell people at the time after all you've been breathing all your life' - I hadn't mentioned my panic attacks and it's nice that they are so confident they can get you through it but I definately want to practice first!

It's great that you had a good doctor - it makes a big difference- mine was a complete cow and would not sign me off work even though answering the phone made me panic (luckily I had an understamding boss!). In the end I paid to see a private psychiatrist as I couldn't function normally and he prescribed anti-depressants (cipramil). I didn't feel depressed, I just couldn't breath - but they really did the trick! Thank God. I think once you've had that sensation though (that chest tighting you describe) you never forget it and you instantly slip back into it. I have managed to train myself to be much calmer with yoga - which has totally saved me on a number of occasions.

Anyway enough about me. Thank you again.

Smita -

Congratulations on the birth of your daughter - HOW EXCITING!! I can't wait now but have a lot to do before I give birth as we are supposed to be moving house early April (I really hope the baby doesn't turn up early!).

Hope everyone else is doing okay. Love Vicky

Hi everyone -

Kim - great to be hearing from you on here - you help to spread excitement amongst all these wating mums to be! Can't wait to read 'parents after treatment' but have stopped myself goiing on at the moment so it's lovely to get news from you and Susie and now Smita too.

Vicky - hope you get some support with breathing - I've noticed a few pregnancy books have sections on breathing - perhaps have a look for one of those. Also I'm told that pregnancy yoga is excellent for breathing, calmness and control - it's a bit late for me now but you might be able to fit in a few sessions if you can find someone - make sure they are pregnancy specialist.

Olivia - how are you? Hope pain isn't too intense - at least you'll find labour a release from the SPD pain - might help to make things easier? Maybe?

Jacs - Ahhhhh - it's nearlly our time, I'm so excited I keep freaking out! How are you coping with the anticipation?

Lil P - I've posted on your thread but just to reiterate here - come on LiL Mini-P - show yourself to the world! Hope you're not too uncomfortable honey

Smita - I've posted on your thread but just to say thanks for all the support and the lovely thread - made me feel very excited

Esther - I've posted on your thread too - hurry up Mini-Esther - let's get things moving! There that should do it - hope he or she begins to make their way today!

Have I forgotten anyone? I sincerely hope not - huge apologies if I have - blame it on pregnancy brain!

Lots of love to all of you - I have another 'men in white coats' visit today to check on my bird mites!! I'll update you when I know whether I'm back out of quarantine!!

Hi Cheryl

You must be really sick of men in white coats (varying kinds)
- which reminds me - just imagine how weird it'll be when we all have our babies and don't have to go to hospital every month! Although I expect we'll all be SO paranoid we'll be at the doctors every week instead!

Good idea about the pregnancy yoga - I have got a book and must admit that recently I have been a bit slack about doing exercises. I will start again properly today. At the moment there seems to be so much to do that I don't do any of it - I just flap about how much there is to do and don't do anything!! Useless - Oh well - I blame the hormones! Love Vicky

AH Lil P so close you are.
We are doing well here. Bed rest is so awefull though.
But whatever I need to do to ensure a happy healthy Joseph I will do.
How are you holding up there?
When did everyone experience the decrease in movement?
He isn't as active as he was but he still moves alot. Just not as strong and as often. I think he is pretty cramped in there since I am only 5 foot. That's at least why I think he isn't moving so much as before.
Hope everyone is well.
Love

Joy

Good to hear from you and don't worry about the movements - as long as you feel 10 a day there is nothing to be concerned about and, as you said, the further along we get the less room there is for these little people to move about.

Lil Mini P has hiccups quite often!!

Hope you're ok

I agree with that - much less movement now from my little one and sometimes goes 2 hours or so with not even a little nudge. I think all is fine though from what I've heard and read and I guess there's just not much room for anything much in there.

Jessica - I second what Lil P says - so lovely to hear from you

Another day dawns and .... we have snow - it's lovely out there :D

Sorry, nothing to report my end - I guess I shall have to let nature take it's time and bring me Lil Mini P when s/he's ready. :? :D

How is everyone today - anything happening for any of you?

Hi guys

I haven't noticed a reduction in movement yet, if fact he is more active than ever!! Which is nice but a bit exhausting through the night.

The midwife says his head is starting to engage, when did this happen to everyone else? I feel I can breath a bit better now and have been able to lie down to sleep again. This is definately a good week. I have a growth scan on monday which I am very excited about.

Hope everyone else is doing ok and putting their feet up. I think march is going to be a busy month for babies, I have a really strong feeling that my little man turn up then too. Perhaps wishful thinking!!!

Hi Olivia - great to hear from you - my 'dropping' happened last Tues (Week 34) and also meant I could breathe again and felt a bit more comfy (though extrememly tired). Good luck for growth scan - I had one last Thurs and was surprised to find my little one already 6pounds 6oz approx now so I think I'm having a huge baby! I'm also hoping for early arrival so mine doesn't get too big. I was hoping they'd (scan people) tell me whether head was starting to engage or not but they said they can't see that sort of detail and midwife would tell me. My midwife doesn't really seem that intersetd in me though and just rushes me out really quickly - she still only wants to see me every two weeks even though I'm now 35 weeks pregnant! I had hoped for a little more interest really but will just have to wait for hospital midwives who will hopefully become more involved with my baby. Hope you've found a lovely midwife at your new place. Any further news on classes? I know NHS and NCT was booked up but did you have any news on other classes? We'll have to start your countdown soon - exciting,

Look after yourself,
Cherylxxx
