Should I take doctor's advice using this egg donor again

Post by babyborn2008 »

I'm using an egg donor and we are in the middle of egg donor program. Today is the 9th day of the donor's stimulation and we have serious problem: about two weeks ago we were told that the donor was ovulating early unexpectedly. About a week later after that, we were told to buy ganirelix since the donor doesn't respond to Lupron well. Her E2 level is extremely high. Today we just learned that she has 3 predominent follicles/eggs at the very front and the rest of her follicles are very small. She has total about 11-14 follicles. We are very frustrated since we now have to worried about the eggs again, but this time is for the donor, which we shouldn't be. Dr. said if the rest of her follicles don't grow, we would have to cancel the cycle. We asked how it happened. The doctor said that some women just don't respond to medicine well. That's all. He suggests if we cancel this time, we can start another cycle with the same donor next month. Did the doctor make the right decision to continue while she was ovulating unexpectedly and when her E2 level became extremely high? Should we continue using the same donor and start a new cycle right next month? (She's an anonymous donor) We are so frustrated. Thank you.

Hi Ladies, hope everyone OK today.

Rebecca, thinking of you. Try not to worry too much (easier said than done I know) the docs know what they are doing. Hope the sickness subsides soon. Plenty of bed rest whilst those beanies do their thing and grow grow grow. Take care :)

Jen1, wishing you all the luck in the world for your trip to big B. Sending baby dust and positive vibes your way. Your lining looks good so I'm sure those little embies will enjoy snuggling down for the duration. Big hugs to you xx

Babyborn 2008, sorry to see your news. Fingers crossed that things will settle down soon and all will be well. Everyone responds differently to meds, the docs can't predict what will happen. We all worry about the number of follicles but remember..... it only takes one! Good luck with the rest of the cycle.

Carolyn, hope you get some time to relax over the weekend. Take care.

Big hugs to Gill, thinking of you xx

Vicki , bet you are looking forward to those pessaries!!

Jen, how are you? When do you start your patches?

We are fine, finished our baby massage course today. Can't believe Matthew is 6 months old already. The days are flying by.

Keep the faith ladies, dreams do come true :D

Bye for now, take care everyone

Rebecca, Get some much needed rest. Those babies are fighters and if you can rest it gives them the much needed boost to do their thing. Hope everything looks much better on your scan Friday.

Jen1, Good luck Friday. Hope those frosties do exactly what they are suppose to - come to life and snuggle in!!!

JenB, Brad's your hubby huh? He is dreamy. Hope everything is going smoothly. Do you have any definite dates yet? When do you start the patches?

BabyBorn2008, I am so surprised that they did not do a Lupon challenge on her before starting her cycle. My ER requires this challenge on every patient before they start. I remember my insurance didn't pay for it but it gave the ER a very good picture of how my body responds to Lupron. I understand your concern over having to worry about the eggs. That shouldn't be the case with a young donor or at least a proven donor.

Really busy at work, so sorry if I missed someone.

Love and hugs,

Hi everyone!

Jen1 – hope I’m not too late to wish you a safe journey and all the luck in the world. It’s going to be your turn this time so just keep thinking positive. Looking forward to reading some newsflashes on your progress over the next few days.

Welcome Babyborn. Sorry I can’t give you any advice. Hope you have found some help in the meantime. Do keep us posted.

Carolyn – so happy to hear all went well at IM last week and your PMA has got a bit of a boost again. Not long to the starting line for you now. Only 2 days to the weekend and more relaxing.

Gill – how are you getting on with your decisions? Hope you are making progress and finding some answers. Seen your ticker. That sounds like a great holiday to look forward to.

Kim – how are the Lupron shots going? hopefully without side effects.

Rebecca – Thinking of you and your 2 little fighters. Get plenty of rest and stay strong. Good luck on Friday.

Thanks for all your wonderful support, Anna. Much appreciated.

As for me, all was going very well until yesterday, my 3rd scan. My lining was down from 9,2mm on Thursday, to 6,2mm! I reported it to the clinic and got an email this evening to say I should increase the meds and go for another scan on Friday. That means I’ll be running around tomorrow morning to get a new prescription for Progynova and another appointment somewhere for a scan (my local gynaecologist is on holiday!). Glad my boss is away on business this week. I’ve also have some mild cramps and noticed a slight pink bleed this evening. Can’t be AF cos I’m only on cycle day 19.
So I’m feeling a bit worried and just want to get back to where I was with my lining last week. I’m drinking lots of water and raspberry leaf tea and trying to stay calm. Next week would be a good time to get away for ET cos I’ve got no business appointments and we have a national holiday here on Wednesday. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Hi to everyone else. Sorry to those I missed. Hope you are all doing well. I’ll catch up again when I can.

Love

Gill – thanks for your kind words.
It’s not quite over yet but looks like this cycle will be cancelled. :(

Had more bleeding and cramps this morning so I texted the clinic. I got a text back at 9am telling me to phone at 10am. By that time AF was coming with full force and I was told we would have to postpone the cycle but they would contact me in the next few hours. I was busy reversing plans and about to cancel the appointment I'd just made for Friday when I got news that I should stay on the meds (6mg Estradiol per day) to “try and save the cycle”. In the meantime bleeding has increased so don’t think there can be much lining left to work with… Not looking forward to the scan tomorrow morning...
New treatments are bringing new problems. It’s so frustrating.

Thanks for listening. Sorry no personals this evening…. thinking of you all

Hi to Everyone,

Good luck today Jen1. Hope your trip there was a good one and that your two embies are settling in.

Sonia, I am sorry to hear about your ups and downs - it sure can be tough on us!

Carolyn, glad everything went well at your appointment

Rebecca, best of luck today. You've got two strong little ones in there so I am sure it'll all work out fine!

Gill, planning a holiday is great therapy. Hope you are doing okay!

Hi to everyone else - I hope all is going well!

So, an update on my situation. I have now started AF for my ER cycle - my ET won't be for another month or two. MY DH and I have gone through the sperm donor selection process and have placed our order. All was fine and we were pretty excited to start again... until I went in for my baseline bloodwork and u/s this morning. While waiting for the nurse I looked through my chart. I wanted to see what my FSH numbers looked like since I haven't been told since the very beginning.

I am 35 and started this process when I was 32. I remember that when I first started my FSH level was 5. I saw on the chart that in April 2007 it was 7.9 and in June it was 10.5. What does this mean? Could our problem with conception be my egg quality? I am trying to figure out whether our problem is sperm based, egg based or my body. Why would our doctor not have even discussed this with us?

This is our 7th attempt and we are using donor sperm - should we really be looking at donor eggs? I've always had 10-12 eggs per cycle with 8-10 fertilizing - so what does this FSH mean? I am suppose to start the drugs tomorrow and now I am terrified that it is going to be a wasted cycle again because the problem lies with my eggs.

Any thoughts?

Finally I have a chance to catch up with you all and see a number of you are having a hard time. This journey is so rough.

Rebecca -
Image

Sonia - so sorry that you might have to cancel your cycle.
Image

Kelly - my understanding is that FSH is one measure of how you may respond to the drugs so my reading of your numbers is that you may need more drugs this cycle to get the same number of eggs. And that is how they use it to gauge the amount of drugs that you may need. I know at my last clinic they liked it not to get much over 10 but 10 was still very ok. I have a very low FSH, produce lots of eggs but the quality is still pants. Some ladies with higher FSH need more drugs to stimulate and may produce fewer eggs but my understanding is that it does not mean that the quality is bad. I had 50 eggs across 4 cycles but none where any good. If they are getting you to try again, I am sure that they must feel that the quality of your eggs is good. Good luck for starting out with the drugs tomorrow. If you are worried then ask the question and see what they say. Hope that this is of some hope

Vicki - really interesting that they test you out on the drugs first to ensure that they work well. That sounds good. I am wondering why I don't have to do that. Guess they will adjust the meds as I go along if I don't respond as they expect?? Hope that you are doing well. Have you seen Mr Trew yet?? Really interested to hear what he has to say

JB - you have been quiet but sure it is because you have had a very busy week too. Hope that you have some chance to chill at the weekend. I can feel my auto immune condition badly this evening and know that it is because I have been busy at work and out a couple of nights too!

Anna - 6 months already. Shame that the baby massage course is over. Sounds excellent

Kim - hope that you are getting on ok with the Lupron

Gill - Knew you had holiday plans but did not know that you were off to Lapland. That is so cool. What a pain that IM answered 1 e-mail but not the other and now you have to re-think and re-type. E-mail is great when it works but less so when they go astray. Hope that they can come back with some good answers soon

Hope that everyone else is looking forward to the weekend. Hugs to everyone else.

Busy week. Food poisioning on Monday for me & dh. Lots to do at work on Tuesday after a day at home on Monday. Business mtg with my partners on Wednesday & then a dinner with our other halfs in the evening which was lovely in town. Had a few sips of champagne as a special treat! Thursday work and then saw my good friend who has had 6 ivfs, the last 3 with DEs all of which have all resulted in early m/c. We used to work 3 desks apart so was lovely to see her. She is now thinking of going to IM so we had lots to talk about. I hope that I helped as she has been through so much. Then today another busy day of work. Pleased it is the weekend. Chilling tomorrow and at friends for lunch on Sunday who have a farm

Had some spotting today. Usually get about 3 days before AF so should be on track for AF next Tuesday and start of treatment. Trying not to think about it and just keep busy.

Have a great weekend.

Lots of Love
Carolyn
