Thanks so much for the detailed information. I called my ER yesterday and was very encouraged. I plan to have another HSG x-ray, since that seemed to help in my natural pregnancy with Andrew. Once that is done, I have to wait until the next cycle. I will then start taking estrogen pills on cycle day 3 or so and take these pills for 2 - 2.5 weeks. When my lining is the desired thickness, I start taking progesterone shots and that very same day my eggs are thawed and fertilized. Any successful embies will be transferred back on day 3 I believe. I may have to wait until Jan. to do the transfer, since my RE is closed during the Christmas holidays. I will either do the transfer in Dec. or Jan. I am very excited!
I know how you feel about loving your second child. I was talking to DH and said that I cannot see how we could love another child as much as Andrew. However, I remember the time that I adopted my 2nd lab. On the way home from the animal shelter I rode in the back seat with her and she put her head in my lap. I was hooked. Yes, it took a little time for me to say that I loved her as much as my first lab. However, It did not take long until I could say that I loved them both the same.
Hello to everyone else.

Tammy-wishing all the best as you begin your next tmt.
Yasmina-how are you doing?
I'm hanging in there literally. At present I'm having a sneezing attack. I'm not certain if it is related to the cool weather we are having or what. The room we are having finished off is still not finished and I had a melt down last night over this fact. I'm trying really hard to stay as calm as possible but it is taking every once of my energy. It's like I have major PMS. The baby continues to grow as does my belly. Sneezing is difficult because of the size of my belly. Thankfully everthing [baby-wise] is progressing according to schedule. She likes to do here noon exercises, sometimes creating a bit of pain in my ribs but its fun to watch her tumble beneath the skin. I'm still capable of attending the spin/cycle class twice aweek. Perhaps this will change next week. I told the gym I'd see them though. I know they are worried about me. But the Ob said as long as I take it easy and do not do too much standing I should be fine. I've noticed that the days I attend, the baby has a big exercise routine herself around lunchtime. Maybe we are to have a little athlete. I've just about have everything ready for her. Need a few odds and ends. But because I'm tethered to the house waiting for the contractors work crews I am unable to get out and finish up my little errands. This is in part contributing to my frustration and anger over this home construction project. PMA PMA. Deep breath count to 10, Slow exhale, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten. Awe much better.
Wishing everyone all the best. Sending out the positive vibes to all who are at the beginning or about to begin their tmt.
Thanks for the well wishes. I am very excited to try for another baby, but am also trying to be realistic about my chances.
When I was pregnant with Andrew, I attended a spinning class but stopped around 6 months. It was a good workout. I am trying to lose some weight. I gained 35 lbs with Andrew, lost 45 lbs in the first 3-4 months after delivery due to breast-feeding. It really helps to take off the pregnancy weight. My problem was that after I quit nursing, I did not change my eating habits and gained 10 lbs. Therefore I'm trying to lose 20 lbs. I have already lost 7 lbs or so. I bet you are getting very excited. My last 3 weeks were difficult since it seemed like I had to urinate every 20 minutes. My doctor prescribed a sleeping pill that really helped me sleep. Otherwise, I was constantly getting up and going to the restroom.
Yasmina: I hope all is well with you. I wonder how the RE's and Embryologists determine the odds for successful IVF pregnancies. I'm assuming that they take into account your age (or in our case the age of our eggs) and the number of embies or eggs that are frozen. I would guess, the odds would change depending on how many of your embies make it to transfer. I'm hoping that all 4 of mine survive the thaw and 2 or 3 make it to transfer. A friend of mine has a cousin that is currently pregnant with twins. She used 2 of her own frozen embies and is getting ready to deliver twins. Both of her embies survived the thaw, made it to transfer and implanted. She is 41 or 42, but her eggs were frozen when she was 38.

I have to report here although I know this is not the right place to do.
I am so happy to report that our DD now is diaper free at daycare also! She suddenly decided to tell her teachers that she needed to go two weeks ago or so. All I did was to tell her teachers “Niao Niao” and “Ga Ga” mean “pee pee” and “Poo Poo” in Chinese and French, respectively. She also shows them by putting her hands on her “area” so that the teachers know what she wants (they need to put her on the toilet since it is higher than her potty chair at home). She did so wonderfully in the last two weeks by only having one accident per day for few days. Then yesterday, she had no accident. Her teacher told me that they won’t put any diapers on her anymore!
She will still need diaper at night although she does big morning pees, which indicates that she kind of understands to hold it. We decided to let her use diapers at night since she did not like to be waken up in the middle of her sleep to pee (I'd tried once and she did not do anything, so I quitted).
Alright so much for potty training.
Tammy,
I am as excited as you are and as you know that I am an optimistic person and I too hope all your eggs survive to fertilization and you will end up transferring all of them back! We have lucky friends and their stories are encouraging!
Catharine,
It won’t be too long for your DD’s arrival. I am sorry for the home improvement takes so long, which is often the case, but it adds more anxiety to us pg women, especially when you are expecting! I sure hope that you are ready for DD since the beginning few days involve a lot of crying (both you and your baby, mostly you) as you generally scared when she cries, you need sometime to understand what she means by crying. But you will learn fast, she will show you how to be her mother along the way, no big deal.
In my case, the biggest lesson that I had was “not to starve her” by “waking her up to feed her even when she is soundly sleeping”.
Everyone else here, have a nice weekend!

Yasmina: Good for you regarding Eloise and her potty training! I really think Andrew would be potty trained if we were more consistent. The other day I was in the midst of changing his jeans and he was walking around with his diaper on. I looked at him and he was sitting on his potty chair with one of his diaper tabs undone. I finished taking off his diaper and he peed a lot in his potty. He knew he had to go, so he tried to get on the potty by himself.
Thanks for the encouraging words on my cycle!

I agree, consistency is super important in potty training. I read quite a bit about this topic but I mainly followed my own instincts during the process. I like natural and smooth progression about everything, including weaning her from breast feeding. It's all easy and painless. For potty training, we started to put her on the potty at her 6 weeks of age, that was how much I hate dirty diapers, especially for little girls, I always worry about urinary track infections and diaper rashes, etc. I was lucky enough to have an Aunt who thought that I was crazy but followed my request anyways. Well, it turned out little kids are smarter than we thought! She rarely has soiled diapers since young age, but it took longer time to be pee-free in diapers. I guess it's harder for little ones to hold the pee back. Anyway, we will see how well she does in the daycare without diapers.
However, I really don't like to do night potty training, especially now when I have to carry my big belly to answer her requests in the middle of the night to assist her to go potty - she started to wake up in the middle of the night and ask to go last week but none of us answered her calls. I am trying to hold this until the second one comes - I think that could be a good time to attend her at night since I will have to do night feeding again anyways.
Does Andrew speak now? Eloise started to make 4~5 words sentences now. In fact, I am mostly impressed by how she speaks to her daddy in French but to me in Chinese. I am guessing that she would speak to her teachers in English, but I just did not confirm, since her main teacher is gone by the time we pick her up. She started to repeat after us about two weeks ago and suddenly behaved very differently, I mean she seemed to become very alert and sensitive to pronunciations. She also suddenly at the same time started to sing, that was very funny, since she would use only one or two words for the whole ABC/twinkle little star songs!
Sorry, I can spend my whole day just talking about her. But I need to stop here now. Need to give another Dept talk tomorrow morning.
Do update about Andrew when possible as your experience could be my valuable lessons for our coming boy.
If you need to wait until next year for the new cycle, that may be even better to manage the anxiety of waiting for them to come back from holidays. My old clinic close for 20 days (!!!) during Christmas.
Take care, Yasmina

Hi Everyone. I start my stims on Friday. Things will be moving very fast now. If everything goes like predicted, then I should get my BFP or BFN around Thanksgiving day or couple days before. Wouldn't that be wonderful to get that BFP for Thanksgiving. I hope you all are doing well. I wish all of you the best of luck. I will keep you posted.

Rhonda: Good luck on your cycle. It is so exciting to start your cycle isn't it?
Yasmina: Andrew does not yet speak in sentences, but says between 10 - 20 words. He understands most of what we say to him it seems. I can tell him to go the kitchen and bring me a bowl and he will do it. He is really smart. He can communicate by pointing and saying words. His pediatrician said that he would speak more if he is around children his own age. At his 18 month check-up he was right on schedule. Wow, Eloise seems to be very advanced with her language skills.
I still have not weaned him off of the bottle. I know that I should but it is difficult when he asks for it. He is such a comedian and loves to make us laugh. Whenever we go out in public, he always tries to make eye contact with people and interact with them. He is very social. That is one reason that I would love to have a sibling for him.
It looks like I will not be able to proceed with my frozen cycle until after Christmas, as I have not yet started AF.
Catharine: You must be getting excited and ready to deliver.

Glad everything is moving forward now. I agree, that would be a great thing to thank for if you get your BFP around Thanksgiving day!
Catharine,
Should we do a count down for you now?
Tammy,
We have not weaned Eloise from bottles either. The way I see it is this, as long as she does not suck nipples on empty bottles walking around the house, I don't have a reason to.
In the last few times of her well-being checkups, we were told by her doctor to expect her delayed language skills, but we never worried about this. Now, I am pretty sure that her doctor will be impressed what she knows how much she speaks now at her two-year checkup.
Are you supposed to get your AF by now? You are having another natural pg?

Yasmina: I started AF today. I called my clinic and set up my HSG x-ray for 11/10 (day 12). It looks like I will be able to get the frozen cycle in before my RE closes for Christmas break. They will do the transfer on Sat. or Sun. (12/20 or 12/21) if necessary. I'm pysched. I'm thinking that I should have a better chance, statistically speaking, with my frozen cycle (eggs were frozen at 42 years old) than with a natural pregnancy using 44.5 year old eggs. What do you think?
I'm sure that your pediatrician will be surprised with Eloise's language skills. She is definitely advanced for her age.

Sorry I haven't posted in a few days I've been so busy.
Rhonda-Good luck with the tmt. Fingers crossed for a Thanksgiving BFP.
Tammy-how exciting for you too. Wishing you all the best for your tmt.
Yasmina-how are you doing. I enjoy reading the stories from you and Tammy on your wee ones. It is very inspirational. I hope I can pick up some tips from ya'll.
No DD yet. Looks like the cold weather scared her a bit. She's quite warm nestled in my womb. I had my final Ob appt this week. It was the shortest, as there was only the check of DD hr and then I was given the orders for the scheduled c-section. We chatted a bit too, it was a cold and heartless visit. The nurse had me prepped for a cervix check and the doc skipped it, said it wasn't necessary. DD continues to perform her alien movement exercises. I only made to spin class once this week. I've been rudely awoken each night this week with back aches so I decided better to stay home and rest than try to make it in for a fitness class. The work on the bonus room is done. It wasn't completed, but we are done with the contractor and his crew. It is a relief. DH will move his office from the dinning room to the newly finished room this weekend. We also had a major sink hole in our front yard fixed this week. Would you believe it was at least 5 feet deep, worse it was the width of our house. It's amazing that no one was hurt or swallowed up by it. We had a company come in with fill dirt and compact the area, grade it, replace the walkway that was being swallowed by the hole. The yard is looking good. How crazy is that. What else could go wrong?
4 days till DD's arrival. We are so excited. We will have computer access next week so if I remember I'll check in with updates. Untill then everyone take care. Know that I am thinking of ya'll.
Three things that are essential to me when go to the L&D, a camera with sound recorder, eye glasses (as I am near-sighted and wear contacts regularly), and a laptop computer. Other things needed will be provided by them. I sent my DH home to bring car seat, cloths for our Eloise to go home with. In the reality though, I forgot to bring a camera and lost eye glasses at the hospital. I am glad the laptop is still with me now.
Good luck and looking forward to your birth story!
Rhonda,
If you have any questions while taking all the medications, please ask, we are here to help!
Tammy,
Wow, I am so excited to follow your progress now. Be sure to update and I am glad that you will be having cycle mate here with Rhonda!
According to what I read, I think your chance of having another natural pg is high! Some research suggested that women at 45~46 reach another peak of reproduction! Believe or not, the last pg peak will be 49~50! I personally know two women who got knocked up at 49 for subsequent pgs (first pg is supposed to be the most difficult one, regardless which age group!)
I always have HPT at home and I checked every month after AF reappeared after postpartum. I had few positives but they did not last more than 5 weeks, which I believe it was due to natural MCs. My explanation is this, my progesterone level is too low to maintain a natural pg, regardless my possible bad egg quality, I need to supply this after a positive test! However, this is only my speculation.
Anyway, in your case, I think that you would be always worried about the frozen eggs if you did not put them back in you! So you made a good decision to do this now. If in the worst scenario, none of them sticks, you still have at least two routes to get a sibling for Andrew, by trying naturally and waiting for your turn to adopt Elena. As far as I see, your plan is lined up and very hopeful!
To all the other over 40 ladies here,
I will be here to follow all of our over 40 women's stories. BTW, do you all know that one of our old pals, Carolyn B, is now pg with her own eggs also? Her sister is carrying her baby for her. Her story is really inspiring!
Have a nice weekend, all!

Hi Everyone,
Happy Halloween. I went for my first appointment today for this cycle. I started my stims tonight. I was disappointed to find out that I only had 4 follies total. this was day two of my cycle. Does the follistim and low dose HCG help to grow more or does it just make the ones I have bigger? Four is a really low number. I am worried. I am doing 450 follistim a day and low dose hcg also. Please let me know if anyone else had just a few follies and got pregnant anyway.
Catharine,
You are on the home stretch now. So exciting. Lets us know as soon as DD arrives.
Everyone have a wonderful weekend.

Rhonda: I really don't remember all of the details of my cycles, but I do remember that when we did ER for my 2nd IVF, the RE found 2 add'l follicles hiding behind other follies. He was expecting 10 eggs and retrieved 12.
Catharine: You will definitely want to take pictures and video during your delivery. I love watching my birth video of Andrew. My DH, sister and mother were all present for the birth of Andrew so there were extra hands available to man the equipment. I also wore my glasses because I wanted to be able to see everything and I was very near sighted. I recently had the LASIK eye surgery and no longer need glasses or contacts! My labor was only 6 hours and it seemed to go very quickly.
I got into my hospital room at 8:00 am and Andrew was delivered at 2:05 pm.
Yasmina: So, do you think that we have a shot at getting pregnant naturally before the frozen cycle? I thought my best chance at pregnancy would be the frozen cycle, but I guess it depends on how many eggs survive the thaw and make it to transfer. Have you and DH been talking about names for your son? We had narrowed our choices down to two names and then both agreed on Andrew. If we are so lucky as to get pregnant again and deliver another boy, we will probably choose the other chosen name, Patrick. The adoption seems so far away that I wonder if it will happen. We are still 1 - 1.5 years away from referral. The rumors are that China will shut down their Internation adoption program eventually and only adopt out special needs children. With the current gender imbalance in China, I can see this happening in the very near future. It seems to me that if I want to ensure that Andrew has a sibling, I will need to get pregnant.
