Sue, I had the postpartum depression myself for about 3 weeks. I don't think I mentioned much because I had my babies before you guys since I was so early and I felt alone....and because I felt guilty as can be about it. I never expected to feel that way either. It was truely a very weird thing what those hormones can do to you. Hang in there!
Yes, Charlie & Richard, the babies are gems when visitors come. Heck, even when DH is around they are pretty good. They just like to fuss when they are with me. Sorry about Kieran's colic. Boy, that just must be very difficult to deal with. As a parent you want to do something to stop their tears. I don't like it when they cry...kind of breaks my heart if I can't "fix" it for them.
Saraid, the night fussy's from 7:00-10:00ish is very common. My babies have that too. We give them a bath almost every night because they like that and we find it helps break up the time for both us and the babies. Besides that, we just end up holding them a bunch.
Jomae, good info about getting them to sleep more. I look forward to the day I can sleep for a longer stretch than 2.5 hours!!!

Hi guys
I'ts great to see the thread so busy. Charlie what a great idea for a new thread I know I appreciate all the tips I can get when things aren"t going well so I'll definately have input. I found that when Jacob had growth spurts he would cry all day for a day or two and constantly looked for more to drink, my sister was told that every three or four days bub will want to feed more often and what they are doing is increaseing your milk supply so maybe this is what your bub is doing.
On this show I watched the other night this women claimed that babies are speaking to us right from birth the show went on to show you the five words bub says in their cry telling you what they are wanting
this is for bubs under 12 weeks apparently and these words can be heard just as they are becoming grizzly not full on crying
1 Neh = means Im hungry
2 Owh = means I'm tired
3 Eh = means I need a burp
4 Eairh = means I have lower wind pain
and
5 Heh = I'm uncomfortable
Wouldn't it be great if using these words could help I have tryed listening to Jacob and I can hear the Neh word when he's hungry and the Eairh sound alot to. Have a listen next time your bub becomes unsettled and see if it's right i'd be interested to see if any of you can pick the words up.
Hi Sariad it's so hard to say what could be the cause of bubs upset for me Jacob was more unsettled during the evening due to a build up of wind from the day and of cause not getting enough sleep so being over tired. Do you have an idea of what maybe causing it. I hope things settle for you soon.
How are you feeling now? In the hospital they said it is quite common for people who have gone through lots to have children to experience it. I'm just so glad the worst of it has past.
Jamoe
I am definately going to be listening more closely to the words, but i have heard her definately say the neh one before now
thanks for all the advice

Jomae - I saw that show with the baby language too. It REALLY works if you can hear the sounds. I don't hear NEH very easily but the other 4 are pretty clear and have helped me to know what he needs. The one that I really picked up on was the tired sound. When I hear that, I know that I don't have to feed or burp him but just snuggle and rock him.
C and R - had to laugh about the Mary and Joseph comment. I think the same thing myself sometimes... especially when we are in church and he is crying and we are getting dirty looks. I just think "well, baby jesus probably cried too!" I think a thread for colic advice would be great.
Saraid - so great to hear from you! As for settling your babe, have you tried massage yet? Hendricks LOVES it! We lay him on a pillow on our lap and rub his back. He totally relaxes. I've put a picture of it on photobucket. (www.photobucket.com userid/PW = ivfgroup/ivfgroup)
I think we can all relate to feeling guilty about being frustrated and overwhelmed with our babes when they cry. It really helps me to know that I'm not the only one feeling that way. It is hard when he cries but I know he's just trying to tell me something. One of smiles or little giggles is all it takes to wipe away hours of him crying.
Jomae - thanks for the sound tips! Arabella's neh is very distinct and i shall now start listening for the other sounds. The wind sounds will be very helpful. I have found she also grasps her hands together in front of her chest when she "neh's".
Julie - thanks for the big welcome! They do love the massage. I have been bathing Arabella every night followed by massage to try snd get a bedtime routine going. The massage is great for that bonding contact, her daddy downtime while i tidy up the afternoon detritus.
We are off to Oz next week and she of course needs her own passport - so cute! I can't believe she has already had her first official photo which will now identify her until she is five
Take care all and keep enjoying those smiles
Love Saraid

How strange it is that it seems all of our little ones suffer from colic. I've heard that it gets it's worst at 6 weeks and slowly gets better from there.
Sue, I also suffered from a bout of depression. I was very teary-eyed for about 3 weeks after McKenna was born. The only way I could describe it to my dh was that I felt like I wanted my mom. I wasn't happy/sad/mad - I just wanted my mom. They say it's called the baby blues - but you have to watch it and let your doc know if it extends for longer than a couple of weeks - that would be postpartum depression. Luckily it did pass at 3 weeks and I've only occasionally cried in the past month because I can't help my poor babe with her wind.
So far McKenna's colic isn't any better but I'm getting better at dealing with it - finding out what makes her more comfortable etc. One thing I do is put her - tummy down across my lap - one of my legs is under her tummy and one under her chest/neck/head. That soothes her about half of the time. Good luck everyone - we'll get through this!
THRUSH. Have you guys heard of this? You know I've been writing lately about how hard it's been with my boys. They won't eat and they starting kicking, crying, pushing, and coming off my breast...and also doing that with a bottle!! It would take me a long time struggling with them to get them to just drink an ounce or two. Then they are starving, making them fussy....including during the night when they are only sleeping an hour or two straight.
The doc thought it was gas...then maybe colic...etc. Well, we went in today and turns out it's thrush, which is a yeast infection in their mouth and on my breasts. I've heard of it, but thought it would be more evident. The nurse showed me the little white patches in their mouth. I guess it's pretty common. It hurts the babies to suck, therefore they can't eat.
Anyway, keep this in mind because several of you have mentioned fussy babies, colic, and having difficulty feeding them. You can't necessary see the yeast spots. And the doctors have been giving me home remedies for gas, constipation and other things...and they missed this diagnosis until I took them in for a shot and made the nurse help me figure it out.
I have a 10 day medicine regimen for me & the babies..and have to steralize nipples & pacifiers everyday. But at least I know the babies will be back to normal within 10 days.

Hi guys....well, as expected, I didn't make the Oct/Nov babies, but will park myself here anyway if that's ok??!! At the risk of repeating myself, I have copied post from other thread below. Will have a proper catch up soon - have to rush to check that she is breathing again!
Finally - Lucy Bella was born on Sunday morning at 8.10am!
It was a very long labour, with contractions coming regularly for around 40 hours (I didn't have to be induced in the end). Finally I went to the birth centre at midnight Saturday night and was 7cm dilated, but still had 8 hours ahead of me!!! All was natural until a little help from the gas when I started pushing.
Lucy was eventually born in the water, and apart from slight delayed breathing (to which I was unaware there were doctors with resucitation equipment storming in), she was 100% healthy.
And here is the best bit.....
She weighed 9lb 1 oz (or 4.190kg) and was 59cm long! Aparently the longest baby they have delivered in that hospital!!!
Breastfeeding has it's moments, and with many a sore (and cracked) nipple, but we are home now and I just love her so much I could eat her!
I will post some pics soon and catch up properly. Would love to know some other early difficulties you all had (with breastfeeding, constantly checking that they are breathing! etc.).
Bella.

Hi everyone,
Bella congratulations your little ones arrival or should I say your big ones arrival you've done so well especially seeing you've had her without an epidural and wow what a long bub i thought jacob was long at 57.5cm.
KristiA I have heard of thrush in babies the midwife thought Jacob may have had it but it turned out not to be glad your getting it sorted out though.
Charlie it's great to get those first smiles my dh was all excited telling me and i'm like yeah right he did not but going over to check things out sure as anything there was this huge smile and he hasn't stopped since wait till you get the laughs to jacob laughed so hard he gave himself the hic ups.
hi saraid and EYCI i wish i had heard about the sounds alot earlier if you can hear them clear enough i'm sure it would help immensly getting bub into a routine Saraid is your bub showing signs of settleing in the evenings yet.
hi Sue how are things for you now I hope your feeling better hows your little one
Hello gregmbarry you mentioned colic gettong worse at six weeks I was told that during the 6 to 8 period it is the time that your bub will cry the most something to do with their digestive system developing or changeing i like to mention info i find out that way if you know a certain phase is going to happen you can be prepared for it and not be thinking what am i doing wrong
sorryif i missed anyone bubs getting wrestless must go
take care Jomaexxx
Arabella is still restless in the evening Jomae. I am trying to convince Dh to leave her and let her cry herself to sleep as i think she is trying to settle herself as she is tired but he hates to leave her to cry I think when you are with them all day you get used to the crying and it is not as heart wrenching for me as it must be for him.
So pleased to hear all is well Bella and your little one is safe and sound.
Kristia - i had heard about thrush but is it not the first thing you think of when they are crying and not feeding well. I am glad to hear that things are on the up now. It will make them and you so much happier!
Arabella is trying out her vocal cords and really starting to communicate. I love the vowel sounds they make when they try to talk back to you. Very cute
Best get dinner ready so speak soon

Sorry to be MIA! Have had a tough week - firstly by getting a sickness and diohreah (spell!) bug which just knocked me for six. Luckily I had some expressed milk in the freezer so dp could feed Charlie whilst I was laying on the bathroom floor crying all night. I just could not even consider holding Charlie let alone feed him. Then I think the bug got transferred and Charlie had a rough couple of days. I have to admit that I came on here a few days ago and read your posts - seeing that everyone was having the same problems/troubles as me really perked me up (sorry that sounds a bit weird!!).
Anyway, have had a great couple of days with Charlie. Really settled into a routine. And the wind is easing again (we tried to change to infacol and my goodness he was awful! We went back to the dentonox instead and hes fine again now most of the time).
Bella - many congratulations!!!! Great to see so many people over this side. Sue - I'm so sorry to hear about teh PND. You've had a rough ride of it lately and you're amazingly strong. You are an inspiration!!
Sorry no more personals - never seem to have time these days!
Love to all

PS - Kriti - yes thrush is very common apparently. At least you know what the problem is and like you say know there is an end to this "episode".
PPS - Those smiles are FANTASTIC!!!!! And when he tries to copy your facial expressions, poking out tongues and making noises it is just too cute!!!
