Well, I gave myself the first lupron injection today. I stood there with the syringe in one hand and pinched stomach skin in the other, and just kept looking back and forth. I then remembered a 12 year old that just got diagnosed with diabetes and thought to myself, if he can give himself shots, so can I. So I did it, and it wasn't so bad. Good luck to the rest of you starting your shots later!

Hi girls! Well I did it! My first Lupron injection. I kept fighting with myself saying you can do it, no I can't, yes you can. That needle hovered a full 5 minutes before I had the nerve to stick it in my stomach! I can't believe it didn't hurt at all!!! It hurt a little after the fact but not nearly as bad as I anticipated. Anticipation is always the worst part of everything isn't it? I'm a little paranoid I got an air bubble in there though...my mind is playing tricks on me!!! Good luck to all of us cycling right now! I can't tell you how happy I am to have found this board!! :P

Carebear I feel the same fear. Today is just my first day of Lupron and I'm so frightened it won't work even though I'm excited at the possiblity! We're doing ICSI on 1/2 the eggs. I'd love to know if others have heard of success with it as well.

Hi June/July buddies.
Excuse my ignorance, this is our first attempt at IVF. I start sniffing Nafarelin on 9th June to down reg then will use puregon to stimulate egg production. Estimate Egg Collection on July 6th. Bit confused by the different drugs being used and wonder if someone can clarify...what is Lupron?

Hello Tracey, Lupron is a down reg drug which shuts of the functioning of the ovaries. In IVF , in the Classic/ lupron protocol, lupron is used to for down reg & then GOnal F is used to stimulate folllicle growth.

rockrat, I'm feeling kinda tired too. No hot flashes or anything else as of yet.

My DH has not watched me give myself a shot yet. He thinks it is painful and doesn't want to see me in pain. I told him that is wasn't bad at all. I want him to give me some of the sub Q injections before he has to give me the IM injection (HCG). I want to make sure he won't pass out on me. :)

I hope the rest of you are doing well!

Hi Everyone!!! I hope everyone had a great weekend. I start my lupron injections today and you guys have definitely helped ease a few of my worries about sticking myself.

Elvisbaby – I totally understand those back and forth feelings (excited one minute, then lingering toward negative the next). When I feel that happening, I try to make a conscious effort to keep my feelings positive (of course, while still being realistic). It’s hard and I’m sure it’ll get harder once my body is taken over by all the medications…man, this is why I’m sooooooooooo glad we’re all going through this together

Sher8 – yes, we have lots in common :D . Looking at your info, I take it you were 35 when you conceived your DD? How many embies did they put back in at that time? I’ve read somewhere that if you’ve had a previous IVF pregnancy and delivery, your chances of success are high for subsequent procedures. Are you going back to the same clinic this time?

Brandi – are your mood swings from the lupron? DH and I are doing ICSI but not assisted hatching. From what I understand, ICSI only raises the chances of successful fertilization but doesn’t really change the success chances for implantation and ongoing pregnancy. Looks like you have to take a lot of time off work. Does your dr. say why he encourages Strict bed rest for 5 days?

Kerribell – you really put that self injection into perspective by remembering that 12 year old. Thanks for sharing – I’ll definitely think of that tonight when it’s time for me to inject

Rockrat71 – I share your happiness. Let’s ROCK this cycle and all come out with BFPs next month…oh, and those hot flashes are probably NOT just in your head :( , lol

Cwrj00 – welcome :) . In IVF Lupron is used to suppress the pituitary gland to prevent ovulation.

Mybaby – I wanna be just like you on my 4th day of lupron, lol…seriously, I’m so happy that you aren’t having any negative side effects from the medication. I hope it continues that way for you. Oh, and thank you so much for updating the cycle list for our group :P .

Can anyone tell me if you feel anything IMMEDIATELY following your lupron injections? My nurse told me to do it at 6pm every night. I teach a kickboxing class at 6:30 on Monday and Wednesday nights and I’m wondering if I give myself the shot at 6, will I feel weird or anything during class? I guess I just have to take it and see, lol. I’m going to work them hard tonight since I won’t be able to teach in a couple of weeks when my ovaries become so swollen and engorged from all the developing eggs

I have my saline ultrasound and mock transfer this Thursday, then my baseline bloodwork is next Tuesday….oh boy, this is SOOOOOOO EXCITING!!!!!

Good job on the Lupron shots girls. I am such a wimp that I have my husband give it to me as I look away. You shouldn't have major side effects until you take the stims. They you will feel like you are carrying rocks in your belly, or at least I did.

TPiper - You shouldn't get any immediate effects from Lupron so feel free to take it before your class.

I had two embies put in when I was 36 (just turned 39 this weekend). I am hoping for success and am returning to the same clinic for the procedure.
