Thanks CroElla, lala and everyone else for your encouragement!

After the initial disappointment and inablility to focus on anything else, DH and I have decided to get back in shape over the next couple months and maybe take a small vacation.

We will be meeting the RE next week to discuss options, but since we are paying out of pocket, we will probably wait for 2-3 months before doing another IVF.

I will keep checking in, though-- I think this has been a great support for me - and I learned a lot from everyone's experiences.
CroElla- did you do anything differently between your 1st IVF and 2nd one?

Angela--- I hope you didn't get AF over the weekend!!! Just 2 more days before your beta!!

Congratulations CroElla and Tracey! Alex - how did your u/s go?

Well, I did a hpt test this morning (one day before official test) and there was a very, very faint line in the test box. I dont know whether to be pleased or not. Obviously, I am, but I'm scared I'm heading for a huge disappointment, that this could be due to the hormones (last hcg shot last Monday) or even worse, could mean another ectopic. But maybe its just because its still very early. What does everyone think?
Me and DH: 42

2006: 2 ectopics
2007-08: 2 IVFs, 4 FETs: all BFNs
approved for adoption
2009: IVF 3 - BFP!
Adam born 26 April 2010
5 frosties left
2012: FET - BFP! miscarriage at 8 weeks
2 remaining frosties didn't survive
Gearing up for foster care

Observer I did a lot of things differently...First of all I changed my diet; I red a story by the lady that was in a similar situation as I was (age, poor egg quality, blocked fallopian tubes) and she started a diet recommended by dr. DiAdamo "Eat right for your blood type". I am on that diet since April...Also I started going to the acupuncturist and taking a diet supplement called DHEA 25mg 2x day. In addition to that we changed a clinic, and new doctor recommended a change in medicine regime. Instead of taking 250 IUI of Follistim a day, this time I was taking 300 IUI AM and PM (600 a day); last time I was not taking Lupron at all and this time I was taking 20 IUI am and pm.....Last time they managed to get 2 eggs out of 7 follicles (both very bad quality) and this time I had 9 eggs out of 10 follicles, 6 fertilized and we transfered 4 good ones back. And I got BFP!:)

If you have questions, please just ask :D

Dear CroElla,
Thanks so much for the feedback! My story is so similar to your fist round.. I really hope that I can learn from your turnaround and make the next round a BFP. I already had had a cancelled IVF - got turned into an IUI due to only 1 follicle produced.
This time, my stims were 400 U per day Follistim initially, which was bumped up to 450 halfway through the cycle due to poor response. In the end I got 5 follicles from which only 3 eggs were retirieved and only two were mature enought to reach 8-cell stage and be transferred.

Question: Did you have a blastocyst transfer? My transfer was day 3.

Also, did you take prednisone? I had to take it starting from the day before transfer for 5 days. Also took antibiotics and Crinone.

THANKS

Dear Observer, I had day 3 transfer...My doctor told me because of my age and 5% chance to make it work in the first place....As far as medication I was taking: Doxyclicline (spelling) antibiotic am and pm starting a day before transfer; Medrol starting on a day of transfer for 3 days; Progesterone 1cc PM starting on the day of egg retrieval and Estrace 2 mg tablets AM and PM also starting on the day of egg retrieval.
I hope this will help you :) Hang in there, and try the diet according to your blood tipe; it is not bad at all and it is not about eating less - it is about avoiding things that are bad for your blood type. For example: I had to toss all of dairy products and all the gluten. I am eating a lot of meat and green vegies....

Some thoughts...

Post by observer »

CroElla- Thanks for the advice! I hope to make some life changes- nutrition-wise (I am looking into the diet - visited the website); exercise; and diversions to keep my mind occupied. Fortunately work is picking up now. My next cycle could be in Winter, which can be depressing anyway... so I need to go in with a positive attitude.
I am meeting with my RE on Tuesday... we'll see what comes out of that. She is very concerned and caring, but also conservative in her approach. Hope she has some more tricks up her sleeve...

Anie- your question about losing the belly weight never was answered. I still have a bloated belly, even though I was a "poor responder". I keep checking for tips that anyone may have for you... I have joined a Gym - and hope that will help!! But then, this may not only be fat, but fluid as well... I hate looking this way!

Take care ladies.. be in touch...
