Hey girls,

I bought a fetal doppler off Ebay and it's brilliant. I have been listening to both the babies heartbeats, its so comforting. They have completely different rythmns which I believe can mean one of each sex.

I think I will be making everyone else listen everytime they come into the house.

That is so sweet Lisa! Mine also have very different beats. One of mine is very exact and even while the other one sounds like music. Real varied beat but still consistant. So funny to be able to hear the differences in our little ones already. I also thought this would maybe mean one of each.

HAve a great day everyone!

triplets

Post by boomer »

Laura and Kimberly,
Remember me from my "triplet" thread? I had my 3rd u/s today and i'm happy to report that I graduated and i'm being released to a perinatologist !! All 3 babies have good heartbeats and are "measuring perfectly" in my doctor's exact words. Kimberly - so happy your nuchal scan went well - mine will be in may - they said it should be between my 11 -13 week mark. Was that the same for you?

Rebecca 79 - We are about the same - i'm 8 wks 4 days and was released today too ! My doctor also told me to stop the progesterone on 5/6/07 so i think it's pretty normal to stop altogether.

Lisa--My babies' heartbeats have been different almost the whole pregnancy. The u/s tech at my RE's office told me that I'd have a strong chance for one of each due to this. However, since then, many techs have told me that's an old wive's tale. We'll see who's right! I'm secretly hoping for one of each!

boomer--congratulations! Wow, 3! TAke care of yourself! That's great that all three are doing what they're supposed to...

Well I had an eventful afternoon! Went to the perinatologist this afternoon for a sono. Waited for an hour to get in, then his nurse takes my blood pressure which is 150/90, probably from waiting for so long!

She then comes back in and says the dr had to leave to do an emergency c-section, but I can't go home because my bp is high. So she sends me off to Labor and Delivery to have my bp monitored and get lab tests done. Luckily my bp was about 140/80 in L&D and my blood tests came back normal, so I got to leave about 6:30 pm.

The dr did my sono just before I left and the babies have gotten so big! One is 3lbs 8oz and the other is 3lbs 2oz. They have put on about a pound in 3 weeks! This is really good news since my blood pressure is getting high.

Janine- I am so happy that all 3 of your babies are doing well. It is such a relief when you get to see their hearts beating!

What a day for everyone!!!!

So glad to see you have made your way over here Janine! It will be so fun to hear how you are doing with three little ones on the grow! Congrats on everything going so well so far. Keep it up! Also, they did my nuchal test at 12.5 weeks. I barely made it but I'm glad I did. We had our busy worried minds put to ease. Peace of mind should be sold by the bottle!!!

Lauralou~ Sounds like a fun filled day for you for sure! Will you more than likely deliver even earlier because of your bp? If so, I'm glad your babies are getting big for you! You must be eating your spinach! :D

Lisa~ If you don't mind me asking, are those doppler things expensive? I would feel so much more comforted if every night I could just give a little listen and tuck them in with a big grin.

Very tired and must get some sleep. My very fun, life of the party cousin is in town and hounding me to go out with them one night this weekend so I feel I better rest up for it. Thank goodness we'll be heading to a wedding reception so things will get started early and I'll be able to cut out early as well. :D Sleep has never meant so much to me in my entire life! Better get it now huh?

Have a peaceful and pleasant night girls!

Kimberely,

Mine was £30.50 inlcuding first class postage so that would be about US$60.00. They are some seriously expensive ones on the market that also offer other things too like exact BPM but I wasn't bothered I just wanted to hear their beats and know they are fine.

I'm really feeling the flutters now on both sides so I expect kicking will start in next few weeks.

We are going to Mamas and Papas tomorrow to have a look at furniture, etc, etc. Mum in law coming too as she was to buy the pram/buggy so she wants to see what we want. I'm not going to buy them tomorrow but get some ideas. It's so exciting now. I just loves these babies so much and I'm dying to meet them. We are already nesting and having so much work done on house and garden. You would swear they are coming out in next couple of weeks. I just want the house perfect.

Janine,
Well done on the triplets. How excited you must be.

Lauralou,
Great weights on the babies. Very healthy. I hope you BP comes down soon for you and you get to late 30's (weeks) for delivery.

Thanks Lisa for the information. Just hearing a hb every day would ease my mind every night. I'm going to look into one for sure.

Today I just took a 5 hour nap!!!!!! My babies seem to be robbing me of all my energy and it has landed me a nice little headache today. Unfortunately, I have to pull myself together in a few hours to spend the evening with my family and cousin in town but right now I could sleep right through it and not care. Some days there are so many things I would love to go do but can't muster up the drive to go do it. Anyone like this at all? I mean today there was a beautiful garden show I wanted to see, some planting I wanted to get done in the yard and the never ending cleaning but instead I slept!!! AGHGHG! Let's home my energy returns before they arrive!!!

Take care everyone!

Kimberly, I was the same way, completely exhausted no matter how much I slept. I found out about 20 weeks I was anemic, even though I was taking a prenatal vitamin. It is a really common problem with twins.

My doctor put me on an additional iron supplement, which really helped. It took about 2 weeks after I started the iron, but then I actually had some energy. Of course, that was about the time they put me on modified bed rest, so the timing wasn't the best!

I am worried about my blood pressure and all the swelling I have. I am relieved that the babies are a really good size, as I worry they will have to deliver me early if my bp gets worse. I have so much swelling in my hands that they keep going numb and my feet are so swollen I can only wear sandals and flip-flops. Thank goodness it's not December!

I keep telling myself a few more weeks and my babies will be here and all this will be a distant memory, and I will wish I had all day with nothing to do but sleep and rest!

Hi Lovelies,

I am feeling much better, thank you for all your advice! I am a very active, outgoing person and I get a bit down when I can't do the things I want. We lived in Switzerland for 18 months where I was a housewife and I suffered terrible depression because I felt so useless. The idea of a week on my own gave me flashbacks to then but as it turns out my Mum drove up the 3 hours and suprised me on Friday night. It was so good to see her and we spent saturday buying the last bits of furniture that we needed for the nursery. We put all the clothes, etc away in the drawers and I am so pleased with the result.

DH bought himself a mobile phone in NZ and has been ringing constantly (even calling to get my advice on wrapping paper for the wedding present) so I have felt very loved and safe! It has been good for him to see his family and have a break from work.

Kim - I have also been warned that a Caesar is likely. The only way my doc will allow a natural delivery is if both babes are head down and exactly the same size and my BP is great. He said that they have strict time constraints between delivering the first one and the second and that even though I may have a natural for the first, they may need to Caesar me to get to the other one. I got the feeling that he would prefer to do a Caesar and if its safest for my little ones then I guess its the right thing to do.

Hi Janine - wow triplets! People squeal when I tell them I'm having twins, they must fall over when you tell them about your triplets!

Laura - I have such a feeling that each time I log on I will hear that you have had your babies! I am relieved to hear that you are still in one peice but sorry that your bp is giving you trouble. I just can't believe that a year ago you and I started on our IVF journey together and now here we are waiting to meet our bubs!

Kimberley - I am so with you on the sleep thing. Mum left this morning and I was so tired I put my head down for a moment and woke up 3 hours later! Struggling to stay awake now as I want a good nights sleep tonight.

DH will be here when I get home tomorrow and he has promised to cook dinner. I also can't wait to see what he has bought as he did a little clothes shopping for the bubs and I suspect that there is a lot of All Black gear (All blacks are the NZ rugby team and the arch enemies of my beloved Wallabies - the Aussie team!!!)

Hope you are all well,
Em

Good morning mommies!!!!! Hope everyone is doing well. It's a bit of a brisk day out over here but I hope to achieve something today regardless.

Thanks Lauralou for the ideas about why I am so tired. My blood was just taken last week but perhaps I will still call and ask about iron and anemia. I have spent most of my life being anemic and have only been boarderline for the last ten years so that wouldn't be surprising if I was again. Any suggestions certainly help and I appreciate all of them.
I really hope your swelling and bp won't give you any more problems. Sounds rather uncomfortable and dangerous. I'll be keeping your safe delivery in my thoughts and prayers until we get your good news. Let us know if we can do even the smallest thing for you.

Em~ I know how you feel about being active. Dh and myself would probably be classified as ADHD around here but to us we just feel highly functioning all the time. Not having the energy and then looking at what I would normally be able to accomplish is sometimes frustrating but I will manage due to the good cause! :D Your DH sounds very sweet making sure you feel included so far away. I'm sure he'll make a very sweet daddy.
Can you elect to have a c-section only if one of your babies is breech? I have already discussed this with my RE and told him I would love to go naturally but if there is ANY doubt both can be delivered the same way then give me one C-section and that's it. I do not want to have to recover vaginally and surgically. Right now we aren't close enought to delivery to really worry about it but I had to have a plan. Good luck with whatever you do. Can't wait to start hearing all the new mommy stories soon!!!!

Better get ready so I can attempt my productive day! :?

Take care~

nuchal scan

Post by boomer »

Kimberly,
i think i will take that advice too about the iron because i have been soooo exhausted - it's all i can do at the end of my work day to eat dinner and put my plate in the dishwasher before heading to bed !
Can you tell me about the nuchal scan? Is it just an abdominal ultrasound?

Hi gals,

Lauralou--I'm so sorry to hear about your swelling and BP. I hope you're drinking lots of water, because that's supposed to help. I'm swelling a bit, but I have a feeling it's going to get worse very soon. Your babies will be here shortly!

Kimberly--You sound just like me! I'm a busy body all the time. My husband swears that I don't know how to relax! During my first trimester, I was exhausted too...and napped more than I could have ever imagined. It drove me crazy to not be productive! The second trimester was much better, but I'm starting to slow down again. I guess we should sleep while we can! As for the delivery issues, my biggest nightmare it to deliver one vaginally and one c-sec. Two scars to heal from would be disastrous. I guess I'm in agreement with Em...the doc knows best. I know many people who have delivered vaginally with twins and done just fine. However, we went through so much to get these babies, I want to do whatever's safest to get them out! I guess even if they're both head down and you deliver the first one vaginally, the second one could turn (due to the space emptied by baby A) and become breech. Then, we'd have problems.

Em--I'm glad your mom was able to visit! Enjoy seeing DH when he comes home tonight!

Kimberly--I hope you were able to have a little fun last night without being out too late. A little warning about the home dopplers....my doc actually warned against it. Not that it's dangerous or anything, but he has had many patients who end up freaking out because they can't find a heartbeat. Since we're not trained to listen for heartbeats, we might not always be able to find it. So, just be careful not to freak yourself out! On the other hand, one of my coworkers had one, and it was reassuring to her. Just use with caution..

I got my glucose results back on Friday, and all looks good, which was a surprise to me. I figured I had gestational diabetes for sure (considering how much I loooove sweets.). No anemia either, so I was very pleased!

Hope everyone else is doing well!

Hey mommies!

Kim~ I am so pathetic right now that I didn't even make it out last night. My poor cousin probably thinks I have given up my "Life of the Party" title but my head was aching and I just didn't have it in me. DH and I curled up on the sofa and did alot of nothing. It was very sweet and then we were off to bed early.
Super happy to here your glucos test cam back great. I am a smoothy junkie in the morning right now and had some concerns about all the natural sugar from fruit but so far so good. Hope you keep on that smooth track! Good luck!
Also, I can see why you have been warned against the doppler. That would be scary to look and find nothing but I don't want to miss it if I am smart enough to find them! :D Guess we just look and hope but don't expect. Thanks for the advice. Take care!

Janine~ We sound so much alike. Dinner went from about 7 pm here to 5:30 and straight to bed! Poor DH barely gets in the door and dinner is ready! Oh well, it's that or nothing right now.
The nuchal wasn't bad at all. It's just an exterior u/s but it can last quite a while to get the info they need from the babies. Mine took about 2 minutes for one baby but 25 for the other. They have to be laying in a certain postition to get the reading and I had one that was just too busy dancing around. It was actually great to watch them for so long. Then a quick blood draw and you're out the door. I was so relieved when it came back good. Just seems to rest one's mind a bit more. Good luck if you do it and let us know how theya re doing!

Take care everyone!

Hello girls,

Our beautiful baby girls, Elizabeth and Angeline, were born on Sat. 31st March, weighing in at 5lbs 11 and 5lbs 5. I went for a regular GP check up on the Thursday and she decided that I should go to hospital as I was developing signs of pre-eclampsia with higher BP, Odema, and a bit of blood in urine. The doctors at the hospital decided that although pre-eclampsia has not kicked in it can only go downhill and it would be better to get the babies out while everyone was healthy and well. So after queueing for a theatre/resources to perform the C-section (yup, we kept being pushed out by EMERGENCY cases) for 2 days, the babies were born at 36 weeks and 1 day.

The babies are out of this world gorgeous. They look totally different. Elizabeth is blonde while Angeline has dark hair. They have been wonderful babies to look after so far with us more or less continuing on the routine set up in hospital. We are now managing (more or less) having only to get up to feed once between midnight and 6am which means that we are getting chunks of 2-3 hours sleep between feeds at night. And my husband has been very hands on with looking after the babies. His parents also came down and basically fed and watered us over the last 10 days. We are so grateful.

The C-section was so much better than expected that I'd say its a very positive experience. The recovery hasn't been bad either, I have not been in pain at all. The only thing is that my BP got really high 4 days after the birth (apparently pre-eclampsia type symptoms can set in after birth) and I am now on BP medication. My wound is also a little infected but other than that, I'm out and about although I'm taking it very easy.

Congratulations to all the new mums with their new bundles of joy born over the last few weeks. I can't wait to go through the log and see who's given birth to whom. Hope you're all evjoying your babies as much as I am - feel the joy ladies and remember every precious moment!!!

With love in my heart
Rittie
