Cowlgirl thanks for your advice... My doctor is very old school (he's been doing this for 30 some years now). However, he never told us to get the amnio or any other testing at all. He just mentioned that he now has to give every patient the option to have it done. He said from all of my blood work, previous scans and family history he doesn't think I'm at risk at all.

We have made our decision... we're going to get the blood test that will show if we're at risk at all. This way we'll be prepared. And if we are then so be it... we're not going to do the amnio for fear of losing the baby. Besides it took us so long to get to this point and we don't want to mess anything up. We also both agree that no matter what we'll love that baby with all we have....

Took- Okay here is anothe thought. If you know you are going to have your baby anyways (we made the same decision) a level II US can give indications of Birth Defects even down to a cleft palet and club foot which I have been told has a higher incidence level in IVF patients. The reason why I mention this is because the CVS test is known to have 5 to as high as 20% false positives (from what I have read). Less acurate for twins which I don't know if they are in those statistics or not. I know if I returned a high chance on blood work alone I would be totally paranoid the rest of my pregnancy. Just an idea. :-)

Take care,
Cowgirl

hi there girls... it seems like forever that i'm gotten on to write... Just been busy...

sita-good luck on your scan, and i hope that everything went well....

cowgirl- glad you got your results and that they were good.... the wait did seem crazy, and i'm sure that it was even worse wait for you..

tasha- My dr did not ask me either, i asked him about the tests.. My dr offers the nuchal to people over 35, (I'm going to be 34 on Friday) and most insurances will not pay for it if you are less then 35 unless there is family history.. My dr said nothing about the CVS either... did they offer you the quad screening? i think that is the same bllod work that they do with the nuchal, minus the US...

Angellica- hope that your sister is doing better

Nance- congrats on the one part of the test being good, and sorry that they are putting you through this.... wouldn't it be nice if everyone was on the same page.... just look at the positive side, you get to see your wee little one again!!.... sound like some good books.... i love books.. congrats on the 12 week mark....

ellie- good luck on your scan tomorrw

nicola and MBA- sorry that you are both feeling down and tired and sick... hopefully that will end soon and your get a big burst of energy..

kim- hope that things are going well and you are taking care of your two little ones..

as for me.... i had my appointment with the dr, and we talked about my HBP.. He is not going to do meds unless i become symptomatic.. like more headaches, poor vision, or seeing spots... but i do have to take my pressure 2x a day, and more if i have any symptoms.. i also had to do a 24 hours urine test.... it's yuck!! I've had to do them before, but it's still weird... if you want to know.... you have to collect your pee in a jug for 24 hours then they test it for protein, that is what spills into your pee if the HBP is effecting your body... Something to look forward to if you get HBP in your pregnancy... I go back still on the 29th, then the level II US in 4 weeks...

then in my appointment he goes to listen to the babys heart, and can not find it.... i tell you it is so scary. For those few minutes, your heart races and your mind just goes crazy.. he took me in for a quick US... my little guy is getting so big and moving around like crazy!! My dr aslo said that i'm measuring big.... who know what that means..

My Birthday is Friday... I'll be 34 years old... DH is taking us out to a nice dinner and not much more.... it's so hard with christmas just a few days away and we are having christmas eve here....only about 15 people, but that's enough!!

well, hope that everyone is well.... take it easy

Hello Ladies.... sorry for not posting personals earlier.

Sita- how did your scan go?

Cowgirl- congrats on your good results... it just stinks that you had to wait so long for them.

Nance- congrats on part of your results. Too bad you have to go back for the scan again... however it gives you another chance of seeing your little one.

Ellie- good luck on your scan tomorow... please keep us posted when you can.

Colleen- Well maybe since I'm only 28 years old (29 when the baby will be due) my doctor didn't mention those tests to me. No they didn't offer me a quad screening (unless that is the official name for the blood test). I'll ask on Tuesday. Also Happy Early Birthday... my DH's is actually today. We're just doing dinner and relaxing.... that's what he wants. Glad to hear that your BP is under control right now. All you have to do is remember to relax and stay stress free. Can I ask what a level II US is? Also I know what you mean about being scared when your doctor can't find the HB. My nuirse did the same thing and I almost freaked.

Hope everyone else is having a great day!

Hi Again Everyone,

I am much calmer now. Thank you for your replys. I called the lab and they told me to get there ASAP. Thank goodness I work 10 minutes from the place so I went and they redid the test. They were very apologetic and even had the head Dr. come into appologize to me. So no harm done. The only thing is now I have to wait another week for the results, and I hate waiting  They actually also re-did the blood work because that was also done too early and as such the initial results may not be reliable. The good news is I got to see the little one again. He/she grew 2 centimeters in 6 days and his/her heartbeat is perfect at 164. At first he was hiding from the camera and kept moving his/her arms in a position that they could not get a good picture of but after poking him/her around for a little bit they got a picture. I can't believe how big he/she got in just a few days. So hopefully, by next Weds or Thursday we will see. As for the Amnio/CVS/Nuchal scan the Geneticist (Sorry, I can't spell) who spoke to us said that if the results of the Nuchal scan came back with a result of less than 1 in 250 they advise to do the amnio. My DH and I have gone back and forth on this issue for the last few weeks and decided if the results of the Nuchal are not good we would take the Dr's advise and have the amnio. If nothing else then it will either prepare us for what is to come and we can ensure that we have the appropriate support and Dr's we will need all lined up for after the birth or to stop me from worrying for the next 6 months once they tell me everything is fine (which I am sure is the case. See, how is that for PMA for you :D ). What tests to take is such a hard decision and I think that the best thing to do is whatever you think is best for you and your baby for your particular situation.

Colleen - Happy Birthday!! I hope you have a great day. I am glad that you do not have to take the medicine for now but that test sure sounds like it is no fun.

Thanks again everyone for all your support.

xoxo

tasha-

the level II Us is just a special Us done by a specilist, perinatologist. They have better US machines(actually 3D or 4D) and work only with moms and babies... they can tell alot from the level II... they can see spinal cord defects, heart abnormalities, club foot, sometimes downs, it's very detailed... There is a really good specilist in ST Alexius, if you need a name..

Colleen- thank you so much... I feel like I need to learn so much. Well I have written everything down so I can discuss these questions with my doctor. However if you could pass on the info for the specialist that would be great. This way I can mention this to my doctor as well.

Hello everyone!

Where to start? Hmmmm...

Nance--Glad to hear you got your 2nd nuchal done in time. Whew! They never make it easy, do they? Just relax until next week now! 8) How did the maternity clothes shopping go? I'm going to go next week, and I'm excited--yet also dreading how big I'm getting. Did you find some nice stuff?

Cowgirl--Send some cookies my way! ha ha! My babies luv cookies! SEriously, when I'm feeling icky...cookies always do the trick. Could that be why my rear is getting bigger!?

Thook--The whole testing thing is confusing. I'm actually having my nuchal done on the 26th. I'll be 12 weeks, 4 days by then. I'm also having the bloodwork done. However, my RE told me NOT to get the amnio (and I"m too late for CVS)--mostly because I have twins, so the room for error is not very big. I'm not sure what he would have recommended if I had a singleton....anyway, I'm not going to do those tests. We've wanted these babies for so long, and we've decided we'll take what we get. God has a plan. That's what we keep thinking.

Colleen--Happy Birthday tomorrow! And good luck getting Christmas dinner ready--you'll be busy!

Hope everyone else is doing well--It's getting harder and harder to keep track of all of you!

As for me...good news--I "graduated" from the specialist today! I'm very excited, as we'll be 12 weeks on Friday! Yippee! My specialist is in INdianapolis (while I"m in Ohio--long story about why I go to Indy), and DH and I have had to drive 2 hrs. each way every week.....so, we're psyched to be done with that! Although, I will miss my doc...he's been taking such good care of me. The twins look great--They're each about 5.3 cm long and they have strong heartbeats. THey were both moving around and waving to us! One was even doing somersaults. Crazy, huh? I go in for my nuchal on Dec. 26th, and then I go back to my regular OB on Jan. 2nd. [I know my regular OB's office is going to be such a let down after all the personal attention I've been used to getting. :( ]

That's all for now! 2 days left of work for me, and then I get a nice long vacation. I can't wait to just sleep and shop!

Hi Girls,

Hope all of you are well and getting ready for Christmas. Thank you so much for best wishes.

I had my 1st scan yesterday and I was in total shock when the nurse said that the sack was too small and that there was no heartbeat. She found only one small sack.

The nurse was not confident that the embryo would survive as there was no heartbeat. She however aksed me to come for a scan next Wednesday (27th again) to know for sure.

The nurse even asked me to come off all the medication as she thought there was no hope. At this point, my heart shrunk and I was speachless. My husband was also in disbelief.

The Doctor came in a few minutes later and then said that I should continue the medication (i.e. the Progesterone and Oestrogen) as my cycle was FET and it sometimes takes a bit longer for frozen embryos to develop. Atleast this gave us a bit of hope so I am now continuing the medication as usual. I was numb for sometime yesterday because of the shock !

The nurse says that I am actually on week 7 ie. 5 weeks from the day of the FET + 2 for the period. She said that she expected the sack to be bigger at this stage. Is this how your week no. is also calcualted ? Please advise.

Please also let me know if you know of anyone who had a similar experience. I am so scared and my DH and I have been crying and are devastated. I have taken a day off today and my DH went in to work but is now returning as he is uanble to cope at work. I feel really bad for him as he is so sentitive.

I really need your help girls.

Love,
Sita

Hi Nance, Ellie and Tasha,

Hope everything is OK with you.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I have been resting today but have had very painful cramps and have been bleeding frequently.

I guess only a miracle could save the remaining embryo now. Thank you for your prayers. I will try and be positive. It is going to be a difficult week.

Lots of love,
Sita
