Stephanie/Klinger - with DS, my 1 hour results were just under the cutoff for GD then I went for the 3 hour and 2 results were just under the cut off and one was just a bit higher. So they considered me GD anyway and I agreed. The reason why is that you are monitored much more closely (yes girls ultrasounds and then fetal movement for the last weeks) and you are much more careful. I had a friend whose OB passed her and she was borderline, so no monitoring and her baby was healthy but almost 11lbs and broke his collar bone and tore her up because of his size. A couple of risks for untreated GD is a very large baby, prblems with brain, lungs and other issues. The obstetrics board was considering lowering the blood levels to make sure more moms got monitored. So again, I am a big advocate of being monitored if there is any risk. I will share my meal plans and I am on insulin now because what happens now is after 20 weeks you get more insulin resistant by the day

If you pm me with your email I can give you my cheat sheet for number of carbs in different foods!
Breakfast - 15 to 30 grams of carbs, avoid milk, yogurt and fruit early in the morning when you have less insulin (you have been sleeping all night) a slice of whole grain bread with cream cheese and some slices of cheese, almonds.
snack mid morning - I have a yogurt and a little fruit or some milk with decaf coffee
Lunch - 40 to 50 grams of carbs
snack mid afternoon - those are important cause you are moving around more
dinner (if you have a late dinner snack again) - 50 grams of carbs
snack - yogurt with fruit is great and a late snack actually works to lower your morning/fasting levels!
Snacks should be about 15g of carbs. Costco has an oroweat bread that has 16g of carbs per slice were normally it is over 25g! Light and fit is the perfect low carb yogurt. I treat cheese, protein and veggies as "free" so really all you are counting and portioning are the carbs, just eat salads with dinner and protein to balance it all out. If you add protein to your meal then your carbs are digested more slowly so feel free to have scrambled eggs with toast or boiled eggs during the day. The trick is to space out your eating. Special K protein is a great low carb cereal. Snack on yogurt cups, laughing cow cream cheese, a small banana, I even had cheesecake on my bday and all the cheese in it was fine with me and did not raise my levels up high! Of course I avoid any juices, pies, ice cream and things that are an obvious sugar spike culprit. A huge breakfast of bacon (uncured), eggs and some hash browns is actually fine. So you really just even out your carbs during the day and try to eliminate highly processed stuff or plain sugars. Always have carbs with some protein or veggies. It is really not that bad and I find that I eat healthier than I normally do (since I don't snack often and do bigger meals) and watch the quality of what I eat, I figured it will be better for me and for the baby. With DS I gained 22 lbs, I might gain more now but at least it is not a lot, of course for twins it will be much more!
Leora- so glad all is well!
