tburks - i am having minor morning sickness but it's all day too. It just comes in waves, luckily it's not too bad. The funny thing is that it is very reassuring having it. After everything we have all been though this is the least of my concern. I keep telling everyone i don't care if im sick for the next 8 months.
I had my dr. appt this morning with my regular ob, which was nice just to get it out of the way, lots of paperwork and stuff. Besides that not much else. She gave me 8 different prenatal vitamins to try out, I have no idea which ones I should take, does anyone have any suggestions? Also she told us we needed to start thinking if we wanted to have genetic testing done, by our next appt in 4 weeks we need to decide. Any thoughts ladies? And last but certainly not least, she does want us to have a gestational age ultrasound done tomorrow morning just so she has it in her records, which is great news for me because I want to know how many little ones are in there. I know it may be too early to see a heartbeat ( i will be 6 weeks on thursday) but I could atleast tell if there are 2 sacks right?

I can handle the ms to!! It's a good thing! I don't think I will do the genetic testing. I watched that on tv the other day and it looked scary. I'm not really sure what the reasoning for it is but I'm sure there is one.
I don't know when I'll go to my reg. ob. I go back for another u/s friday and I'm 6 weeks already so I'm assuming I this will be my last appt. with RE. Have you not had an U/S yet??
Niki
You might ask your dr. if there is a genetic counselor you can talk to. We had one at our HMO and he really helped us a lot. In a nutshell, there are 2 types – screening and diagnostic. The screening doesn’t confirm whether the baby is healthy but gives rates your chances in a percentage. Your results are based on your age, a blood test and an u/s. For example, here are the general chances of having a down’s syndrome child:
under age 30 - less than 1 in 1,000
age 35 - 1 in 400
age 38 - 1 in 180
age 40 - 1 in 105
age 42 - 1 in 60
If your results are higher, you could choose to pursue further testing or do research in case your child is affected. There is absolutely no risk to the baby with a screening test.
The diagnostic test (amnio or CVS) actually tells you whether your baby carries a number of genetic issues inc. down’s syndrome. There is a small chance of miscarriage.
You should learn more about your personal risk (i.e. family history, age, even ICSI), the test advantages and risks etc. before you decide.
My RE suggested a prenatal w/ DHA which comes in a separate pill. Sounds like yours would probably recommend any of the 8 or she’d have been more specific.
Good luck on your u/s tomorrow. You are early so don’t be disappointed if you don’t hear the hb, but, you’re right, you should at least see the sac(s).
07 MC
08 IVF: lost twins 1 MC/1 anencephaly
1/30/09 FET: BFP!
9/21/09 She's here! born 5 weeks early, 4lb. 6 oz., 17-1/2 in.
thanks for the info - she basically said if we do the genetic testing there is a new type that consists of a blood test at 10-12 weeks and then another at 14 weeks and they cmpare the results and can tell if they detect downs syndrom or other genetic disorders. there isn't much they can do if they do detect it but you can get as mentally prepared as possible and they can watch me closley. Tburks - may I ask why you decided not to do the testing?
As for the u/s my RE does not do one until 7 weeks, which is soooo long. I thought most did them at 6 weeks. I will be a day short of 6 weeks tomorrow so hopefully i will be able to atleast see how many. I don't know why but i really feel like it's twins.
Niki Good luck today on your u/s. I really feel like I have twins to but at the 5 week u/s they only seen one. My ovaries were really swollen bc of the OHSS. I am hoping when we go back Fri for the next one we will see 2, if not that's ok I am perfectly happy with one. The reason I am not going to do the testing is bc it won't make any difference. I will keep the baby no matter what. The testing that I seen they put this big long needle in your belly and sucked up blood or something. Looked pretty painful and I would think that would put you at risk for mc.
Well I had my u/s and they only saw one sack and the yolk sack. They said it was too soon to see a baby yet, which i have heard also. I will be 6 weeks on thursday so i was hoping they might but that's ok. I was hoping for twins but I am so happy to just have a baby i am ok with wahtever i can have. tburks - at 5 weeks did they see a fetus yet or just the sack? I kind of agree on the genetic testing, i wouldn't do anything either, but my DH said it would help us prepare if there was an issue and give the baby the best care, but hte false positives that I keep reading about scare the day lights out of me.
Niki Congrats on the one baby!! Just think you'll be able to give it your undivided attention! RE didn't point out everything to me at that appt. He was more concerned with the OHSS but he said he could see the HB. I could see on the screen the sac and yolk sac but I couldn't see the HB. He said everything looked great.
Tburks - looking at your signature, we had almost the same cycle I had my retrieval on the 5th transfer on the 8th and they had 6 fertilized eggs and transfered 2. My beta was 442 then 762 but it was at 14 and 16 days rather than 12 and 14 but at 14 days we have almost the same beta. So I am about 3 days behind you. Have you started telling people yet? We have told our families and our close friends but we haven't broadcast it yet. I keep telling my DH that our target date is easter by then we will almost be out of hte 1st trimester and it gives me somehting to plan and schedule. I just want to start buying baby furniture and decorating the room. My DH is going to stop working and be a stay at home dad and he is ready to give his 2 weeks notice now, but I tol dhim he has to wait until oct!
niki
I have told my family and work and a few friends. My mom has told just about everyone!! Work knew bc I quit to do the ivf. I was wanting to wait until after this u/s to tell the everyone else.
We are real close on our #'s!!
We go to the Amish Country a lot and when we decided to do ivf we were up there and picked out the furniture. Didn't buy it. We picked out different styles for a boy and girl so we will have to wait till we find out what we are having before we order it.
I think it is wonderful that dh can stay home. I think it makes a huge diffence in the childs life if one parent can stay home to raise them.
Hello Everyone, is it okay if I join this thread? My due date is October 21st, and I had my ultrasound today and we just found out we are having twins.
I would have joined before but I was afraid to do anything before I heard the heartbeats, or I guess heartbeats. One heartbeat was 113 and one was 119 and they are measuring 6 weeks and 4 days.
I am looking forward to all the pregnancy talk in this thread.
Molly
I'm jealous!!! Twins is wonderful - I'm sooo happy for you!! Did you have any idea at all you were having twins? when is your first appt with OB?
Molly - that is great, I was nervous to join this thread too, but we are pregnant and we are due in october so we all desreve to celebrate it, god knows we have worked hard for it.
Hi ladies. Had my u/s today.....1 baby (thank the lord), 132 hb, 6w5d, dd of Oct 22. So I go back in 2 weeks.
Molly~ Congrats on the twins. I have 11 month old twins and they are truly a blessing. Be prepared to be busy.......
Tburks~ When is your next u/s? Have you been released from RE yet?
Niki~ Good luck with your decision on testing. I can see the pros/cons for both sides. I chose not to do it for the same reason Tburks did. Just didn't need the extra stress and worry!!
I am really excited about having twins, but super nervous. My OB appointment is on March 14th, and they say it will take two hours. So i guess I have to take more time off from work.
TwinMom- your heartbeat sounds really good, and I can see why you are happy it is 1 this time around. Do you think my heartbeats were good. One was 113 and the other was 119. Is that in normal range. They seem kind of low compared to you.
twinmom
My next u/s is Fri. @ 1:20. I'm not sure if they will release me to my reg OB then or not. I hope so. Were your twins ivf babies? My bf had twins natural. She keeps telling me be glad you only have one two is really hard. She feels guilty that they don't get the one on one time the others did. She has 4.
