CAolyn- I just read the article you posted. Quite interesting but at the same time if they only allow one embryo to be transeferred at a time- i have a feeling the success rates will drop. I've only heard of a few cases where twins had serious health complications, how about you?

Jacckoa- don't worry too much if it was only a few sips- many women drink without even knowing there are pregnant and their babies are fine.Hang in there!!!!

Later everyone!

Please don't beat yourself up. A few sips of wine will have no impact at all. It might even help relax you. My consultant told me that most ladies just carry on as normal. I am only been super sensitive as not sure how many times I could face failing.

Enjoy the weekend - try to relax as much as possible. Not too long to go. Hope that your little one is staying right where it should be.

Dania

I am so with you. I am now 40 so asked my consultant about 3. He said not yet but I am sure that I could not be so bold to ever just have one put back if I had a choice. Thank you for all the info. on diet, exercise and BMI. When I asked the doctor about what I could do to help all he offered me was - don't smoke, I don't - reasonable BMI - he told me that I was fine. Have used calculator below and come out around 25 mark. I lost a lot of weight over a two/three year period - so like 2lbs a week. I did a bit of fad dieting before we got married last May but sadly have put some of that back on anyway. I am not thin but not fat either. I guess average. Would like to lose around another 10lbs which I hope to do though the healthy eating route as you say that would move my BMI down to 24. Nutricianlist said that live/probiotic yoghurt is good. (sorry my spelling is really poor but sure that you'll know what I mean). On baby aspirin - I have read good & bad. Quite a lot of ladies take to help blood flow. I took on 1st attempt from EC through the 2ww. But then read that it can also increase chance of a miscarriage. Plan to check this with my dr before I cycle next time and only take if he recommends.

Enjoy the weekend.

Jackoa21,
happy belated BD!!!! I hope you get the best BD present- a BFP!!
Don't worry about the red wine. Even a glass won't do anything. It's not that bad and it is antioxident. Alcohol like caffeine is not good if you drink a lot of it. I am alcohol free but here and there I get a sip of coffee of coke. Everything in moderation.

GL!!!!

Jackoa,
definetly a few sips of wine will not have done any harm! Right now everything happening is about implantation, and I am sure this process will not be negatively affected by a few sips! Just keep the faith. Oh, I know how hard this can be!

Carolyn and Dania,
it is such a great comfort to know the two of you are with me in this! I have been thinking about the diet again. I am sure that it is important to have some guidlines. I guess the no smoking, coffe, chocolate, alohol part is very evident and rather easy to comply with. As for everything else (no bread, diary, soya or rice milk etc.) - I do not believe that our chances of getting pregnant or not are dependent on this. For exmaple natural yoghurt is something I love to eat and it seems to positively affect my digestion. I think if I stopped eating yoghurt I would rather hurt myself than do any good, and what I am trying to say is: the best is probably to be moderate. To maybe not abadon diary or bread completely if it had been something you felt good with in your diet before, but to just cut down on everything one had too much of before... Same thing is probably true for exercise. I am sorry for being so complicated in describing what I mean. This is because English is just my second language (I am from Germany), and I am often missing words.

I am treated at the OVO clinic in Montreal. Where are you from, Dania?

I feel I have learnt a lot during this first cycle, and I am convinced that this knowledge will help to improve chances on the next one! Many decisions which were made without me knowing what was really in question I will definetly try and influence next time (e.g. the length of the stimulation period, the number of embryos put back). From what I hear it seems that if you really insist on putting back more than two, they do.

Hugs and a nice weekend to all, Veronika

Funny you should have written what you did about everything else beyond cutting out booze, fags and caffenine. Dh and I just popped out for a bite to eat and he basically said the same thing. Be healthy but if I fancy a little bit of something to have it rather than starving myself of anything that I might want/like. I want to give it everything but guess that you can go overboard.

So I had a little bread - how awful am I.........

I read too much - but did read that natural probiotic yoghurt is really good for you. If it helps you then go for it.

I wasn't meaning to be so black & white. I just have to set my rules quite strictly for me because my self control is not as strong as it could be. I know that a few sips of wine would then be a glass and then likely 1/2 a bottle ................so it is better for me to strike it out completely if I can. We'll see.

You're English is great. Please don't apologise on here for anything - you can say or write what ever you like. :P

I agree with you that I was pretty much lead by what ever they told me 1st time around. I am with you in terms of being a bit more assertive and in control of what happens this time around. I also think that I was stressed last time as I was not sure what to expect or how I would react. We know that we did it once. We know how it felt. That must help going through it again as at least we'll know what it is like - other than the end result.

Have a great weekend. :D

Thank you for all your kind wishes! I am feeling much more positive today and am beginning to allow myself to feel a little excited too :D

Veronika - sorry that you got a BFN but I'm glad you've joined us - you will find our group to be so supportive! It's good that you're looking forward to how you're going to improve your chances next time - I guess it's nice just to feel like you can control at least some aspects of IVF.

Carolyn - your article was interesting too - what are you thinking now about asking your consultant to put back 3? The ARGC clinic that was mentioned is the one that I go to. I've been taking baby aspirin since the 2ww and am still on it now. I'm also on Heparin injections which also increases blood flow to the uterus. Think my blood must be like water by now! My circulation is appalling so I'm not surprised I've been given it.

Carolyn/Dania/Veronika - About the Soya/Dairy thing - Zita West (my goddess) doesn't advise Soya but I remember reading about the dangers of soya and fertility last year and thinking "why is china overpopulated then?" Doesn't make sense... I read somewhere that dairy is fine but that because you have to have such a high intake of protein during IVF that it is better if it doesn't all come from animal produce. Not sure why but I would guess it's because of the high fat content. Haven't heard about the bread thing though - did they say why?

Jackoa21 - don't tear yourself apart about the few sips of wine, if your embie's gonna stick, then a sip of wine won't make it fall out!

Good luck with your HCG tomorrow LauraLou, mine's on Sunday so we shall compare notes!

Have a good weekend all - the sun has finally come out here in London, hooray! xxx

Lucy
I am glad you are settling into this a little. I can only imagine how hard it is to just "relax" I would think it must get easier :)

Carolyn I think DH is right you dont want to take everything away.. Was the bread yummy??? :) :)
I am also like you and I have a hard time with moderation.. I am just going to stay away from any more wine.. Not really due to concerns of what it may do but more of what mentally it did to me..

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend

I went for my 2nd beta today and just got the results. It only went from 78 to 120. The nurse said it wasn't as big an increase as they had hoped for but that some women are just slow to start. I am to go back on Monday for a 3rd beta. I know everything may still be okay, but this worries me.

Has anyone else had a hcg level that didn't double?

It doesn't always double in 48 hours. I was told it could double every 48-72 hours.
Good luck on Monday.

Don't worry, it almost doubled, it's good.
HCG Level

Doubling Time

< 1200 48-72 hours
1200 to 6000 72-96 hours
> 6000 >96 hours

Check your but also include the hours, say if 1st day it was 10am and second time it was at 1pm, you have to subtract 3h=3/24day

Thank you Vessi, Jackie and Regina for the information and support. I was really upset when I first got the results but a couple hours of sleep (worked a 12 hr shift last night) and I'm feeling better.

I looked in some books and on the internet and it does say many places that the hcg level should double in 48-72 hours. Because my doctor's office said it should double in 48 hrs and the nurse sounded concerned on the phone, I didn't realize only going from 78 to 120 in two days could be normal.

I had a stern talking to with myself and decided not to get overly worried until I have a reason to. I have been so blessed to have a BFP on my 1st round of IVF, so I have every reason to be grateful and positive.

Best wishes!

Carolyn,
...glad I can keep up my beloved yoghourt withought feeling guilty :) I don't think you're being black and white about this diet business! I have the exact same tendency of being either obsessive-compulsive or lax with these things. So for sure it's better to keep control. I think what might really help me in being moderate is to make myself a plan. If I decide at the beginning of the day or week what I want to eat and when, I might actually by capable of sticking to my plan.

Time is passing slowly again. My review appointment will be the 22nd of June...I'll have turned 31 by then. Not really looking forward to that day. I have always pictured myself being a young mom of three. Anyway I am already starting to write lists of questions for my poor Dr. He's somewhat a shy guy, he'll have to support quite a bit of persistency on the 22nd.

LucyBucy,
thank you for the diary info!
I am glad you're starting to be excited about your wonderful BFP!

LauraLou,
I hope that you can relax a bit. I can only imagine the whole new dimension of worries one is confronted with after finally having a BFP. But hcg levels do develop in such a wide range interindividually. Good luck on Monday!!

Best wishes and a sunny weekend for everybody,
Veronika
