Hello Ladies,
I hope you dont mind I join your board. I was in the April/May, but the ladies there were well on their way- and I really would like a 2ww buddy when the time comes. :D

I started my Lupron on Friday, and tonight I will start my Follitism. This is round 2 for me. My last was a BFP in February. It was hard to start again, actually. I had pretty bad OHSS, and will probably have it again :(

I think I will have my ER sometime around the 9th of May. I will know more this Friday.

Does anyone know anything about the high protein diet that is supposed to help egg quality? My DR. said no carbs and no sugar while I am stimming, so I think I might be doing something similar...

Baby dust to all...

LoveBug welcome! Sorry to hear about your OHSS maybe this time will be different! Not sure about high protein diet - I limit caffeine, alcohol and fatty foods during a cycle...and try and eat lots of veggies/fruit...

AdsGirl - Thanks for the list! It will help keep track of everyone for sure! Hoping my E/T is the 27th or before!!

Baby dust to all...things are going to start moving on this thread soon!

Welcome LoveBug! Wow! I added you to our list, and you moved right to the top! Good luck starting the follistim today! Haven't heard of the high-protein diet...I'm going to research that a bit...I'm a vegetarian and would be curious about it. I get plenty of protein, but not from meat sources...I wonder if that would make a difference??

A baby shower where you're the only one with no kids? That must have been tough. I had family in town this weekend, and they all want to know why we have a house with 4 BR when it's just the two of us. I don't know why it's their business...but I just answer "someday we'll grow into it". My cousin that was here has 11-year old triplets. Other than my my mom and MIL, she is the only person in my family that I have told about our fertility problems. She had severe endo, and went through something similar to what my DH and I are going through. It felt great just having her in my house because I knew she was there to silently support me when everyone else was grilling us on our big house and no kids.

Anyway- Wednesday is our mock transfer and meds-training appointment. I can't wait to start DOING something!! We are finally on our way!

Hey Love Bug , I'm glad you came over! I remember you from the end of the thread I was on in Jan/Feb.
Well, here we go again!!! Did your protocol change any this time because of the OHSS, or is there nothing they can do?

My doctor says NO high protein diet. It puts too much burden on the liver, pancreas & kidney systems because they work harder to digest extra protein.
That takes energy away from the ovaries.
Everything should be balanced...fats, carbs, protein.
He said eat more cooked foods, as the nutrient absorbtion is better than salads. More warm foods, as they're easier to digest. Eat more fiber, less sodium. No refined sugar, caffeine, alcohol. Organic if you can.
I guess it's all about easy digestion, because more nutrients are absorbed and the body doesn't work as hard so it can put it's energy into those eggs.

I also read in that NewsWeek fertility article that a cup of full fat milk or yogurt a day is really good for fertility. I do goats milk yogurt ( not as bad as it sounds :) because again it's easier to digest.

He also said lots of sleep & reduce stress.

Sooo much to think about but I've just been trying to relax & eat simply.

Adsgirl It's nice to have somebody who's been through it. I think it's not that helpful to tell somebody who hasn't because they can't possibly understand....it's just that sad sympathy which doesn't help :(
Ok...off to acupuncture.....

Hey Ladies,
Do you know if decaf coffee or decaf sodas are okay to drink?

Faith I heard no sodas at all....messes with digestion & they're too cold for the body. I don't know about decaf coffee for fertility...I think i read somewhere that decaf in general is worse for you because of chemicals they use to take out the caffeine.
I'm just doing herbal tea...it's hard. There is a tea by celestial seasonings called Rostaroma...it's with chicory, so it tastes a little like coffee. It helped me with the taste craving but i do miss my coffee

Rinnie: Thanks for the invite! It is nice seeing some of my old buddies. I am super glad you sent me some of your diet info. I am going to do the best I can for the next three weeks, and hope it makes a baby! I have been eating a lot of veggies and salads, but I am going to take your "cooked food" advise....I am kind of done with salads! There is only so much one can eat.

I did have my protocol changed, but not because of the OHSS. I have PCOS so they really used the first IVF as a trial run. My had 17 eggs but only 9 were good because they didnt stim me long enough. So I went from BCP to Lupron straight to Follitism, at a higher dose than previously.

So, all in all, I am glad we switch some things up. I will have OHSS again, if I dont watch my carbs- you will never believe how motivating that is not to eat carbs! :D

I am super excited for you...when do you start stims again? or have you already...

Best of luck! :D :D

Love Bug i had no idea OHSS had to do with carbs. I just had a friend who had it & only had 4 out of 20 good eggs...I wonder if she knew about the carb thing. OHSS just sounds awful...she went through a really tough time.

They kept my protocol the same...I start stims on Wed. I have to do Lupron & Follistim in the morning and Lupron & Menopur at night. My FSH is much better this time so I'll be interested to see if that affects my response.
They had to cut my dose halfway through last time to slow it down & I kind of inched in & was a day late on ER.
I just need better quality eggs, so I hope all the things I'm doing help.

Wow - so many people on this thread now - the more the merrier! Hope it is a great cycle for everyone.

Well thanks for all of your wishes - AF FINALLY showed up early this morning - I was totally starting to worry and was going to call RE today regardless because I had been off bcp for almost a week. But alas, she came so I go tomorrow for my baseline appt. and should start stims tomorrow or Wed. So ER could be near Mother's Day - how ironic!

My older sis was in from out of town this weekend so I drove up to my mom's to see her. She is 1.5 years older than me and has 2 kids - 2 years and the youngest 6 months (yes, they are only 18 months apart). Needless to say, she (and my mom) are about the most fertile people I know and she had no trouble. I love my nephews, but it is really hard, like rubbing salt in a wound. She only had the youngest in town with her and he is so cute, but again, still hard. We watched him while my sis was at a wedding and he cried a lot, and my mom said "Are you sure you still want kids?" I know she didn't mean anything by it, but it was totally insensitive. Yes mom, I want them so bad I am on my third round of sticking needles in myself and pumping myself full of hormones. Sometimes I don't think they get how hard this is because they had it so easy (my 2 sisters and I are each 18 months apart as well). Oh well, what doesn't kill us makes us stronger!!

Hope everyone had a great weekend and that's it's nicer there than it is here (pouring down rain). Much baby dust to all!

LB and FaithHopeLove so glad to hear your calendars can start moving again! Yippee! LB, are you going straight to stims without any other shots? Or have you already been on other meds. Sorry if I missed that...I thought you were waiting for AF to go in for your baseline. Awesome!

Hello all, gosh this thread is a big one! KYW, I live in a small Town called Nailsea, which is basically couple miles from Bristol. Not sure where that is in relation to Hampshire (must get my map out) but nice to be close.
Thank you for your warm welcome everyone and I will take great pride in the duty of being your lucky charm(Maggie) for the thread.
AdsGirl - I have read somewhere that people with PCOS are at a higher risk of OHSS but I don't think it is a huge factor. I have PCOS and my clinic has decided not to give PCOS ladies Dexamethasone tablets now as they think that is a contributing drug. Too be honest though I had them last time (when it worked) and I am fortunate not to have suffered OHSS. The trouble is now that there is so much information available to us and a constantly changing (& progressing) ) studies undertaken it can all come overwhelming. For example, my clinic doesn't tell us what grades the embryos are prior to transfer. I actually don't ask either as I would get hung up on it and have something else to think about. Thank you for doing the list and keeping it updated, that is a fab idea.
LB - It can be so frustrating when people say insensitive things, I know it is not meant to be cruel but unless you experience infertillity you don't really appreciate how it feels. My family are super fertile too and have even had a couple of abortions between them, which devastates me! I think it has something to do with the fact that we don't have the choice of pregnancy and it is taken for granted when you do. The Maternal instinct is probably the strongest emotion I have ever felt and still feel. People say to me "well you've got one, so that's something" arrrhhhh - How can I explain to them that it does not making my yearning for another child any less. That's why we all post on sites like this - thank goodness!
By the way I have a tip for everyone - My best friend and I put on our husbands boxer shorts (over our trousers) and danced around my washing line making indian noises. We did this New Years Eve 2003 and both had a sucessful IVF that new year. I am going to do the fertility dance again (my poor friend) as I believe it helped - worth a try...
Babydust to you all

faithhopelove & LB Woo hoo...let us know when you get your schedules.

LB My mom said that too! it was so frustrating...I think it's because they don't know what to say & they know you're thinking of it when you're sitting there with a child.

Prawnster My dh wears those Calvin Klein boxer briefs....not sure I could get them on over my pants, but maybe I'll just put them on by themselves & hope the neighbors don't see. Should we bang a drum?...maybe that's for rain

For anyone in the US interested in acupuncture and Chinese medicine....

My chinese med doctor Dr Dao Shing-Ni will be on the Today show on Friday morning. I'm not sure what time, so I have to Tivo it...or they may put a clip on the Today Show website.
He wrote a book so he's going on to promote it ... there are some amazing stories, like a woman with half an ovary who managed to get pregnant after years of trying.
