Re: MAY 2011 BABY or BABIES!

Post by kizmet »

I just got back from my 19 week ultrasound and it was all good news. My last two ultrasounds I've had an unco-operative baby - facing the wrong way for good photos! Today it would seem I have an unco-operative uterus! I was having a uterine contraction (which Dr. said was completely normal) and the contraction was right in the middle, right over the top of the placenta and poor baby Bean was very squished! He/she had no room at all! But we were able to see that everything was in the right place and functioning normally and that I don't have a two vessel cord after all but a normal three vessel cord. To find out everything was fine did me a lot of good today!

Morning sickness seems to have taken on a new and unpleasant form in the last week - seem very inclined to just throw up with no warning at all. I couldn't even keep the liquid down long enough to have a partially full bladder for the ultrasound today!

Hope everyone is well.

Kizmet- What a relief that every thing is looking good with Bean (minus the squishing) and that your cord is normal. Are you trying to get pics for your 3D ultrasound? UGH! Your morning sickness just sounds awful! I'm so sorry it is still sticking around and I hope it goes away soon. :? Was your DH's sister excited to see the baby? I think that was sweet that you invited her to go along. So what it next for you? Do you get another check up/us next month? Have you felt your baby move yet? I'm only 15 weeks but I want to know how soon I might be able to feel the baby. Since I dont have many symptoms I think it will help me to know that my baby is ok and feel more prego.

Buns- What about you? Any movement yet? Did your OB say you might feel them sooner since there are two?

Kizmet- I'm so happy that everything looks good! I know it's a huge relief when you get good news. I'm unfamiliar about the uterine contractions. I've heard you can get them while having sex, but I didn't know you could get them anytime. I hope your sister-in-laws day brightened with the ultrasound, I'm sure it did.

Hopeforbabies- I have been feeling flutters in my stomach for a couple of weeks now, I know it's not gas. But, last night for the first time I felt more than ever. I just felt alot of movement going around in there. I can feel it more when my stomach is full with water or food and I have to be laying on my back as well. I can't wait until I can actually feel them kick.

AFM- I told all of my family and friends that I was pregnant over Thanksgiving break. As for my students, I'm a 5th grade teacher, I was debating whether or not I should tell them before or after Christmas break, just because of all the difficulties I've been going through. So, last Friday I decided to tell them because it was getting a little hard trying to cover up. Well good thing I did. For some reason my stomach popped over the weekend and I look about 5 months pregnant now. I even feel like it grew from yesterday. Have you'll starting showing? If so, were are you getting your maternity clothes from at a reasonable cost? I went to Old Navy this past weekend and they didn't have any dressy pants that I could wear to work. I ended up on getting a pair at Target for almost $40 and I don't think they're going to fit me next week.

I also wanted to ask you'll a kind of personal question. I was taking coated folic acid and I ran out. My husband bought me some this past Sunday and they're the asprin-like folic acid. Well, today I noticed that my urine is BRIGHT, BRIGHT yellow. I'm just wondering if it's becuase of the folic acid or if it's something I should be concerned about. Has this happened to anyone else? I can't think of another possible reason for this happening. I'm debating whether or not I should call my doctor. What do you'll think?? Thanks

2buns- I was a little over-weight when I got pregnant so it just looks like I've put on a lot of weight. We were in Spencer gifts (gag gift store) at the mall over the weekend and there was a shirt that said "I'm not fat, I'm pregnant!" that I was tempted to buy. I am starting to have a hard time wearing my regular pants now so I have been using Belly Bands. Its a piece of spandex that you can put over your regular pants so you can leave them unbuttoned and unzipped. It also helps to hold up maternity pants that might be a little too big still. I've seen them at Target and all the Maternity stores. As for places to go for cheap maternity clothes I got two nice outfits from the clearance area of Destination Maternity. $30 for a two piece outfit. I also got some maternity jeans from JC Penny's but they were about $30 dollars a pair. I know Target carries maternity clothes but I dont know how expensive they are or not. Maybe shop for a lot of dresses and then when you lose the baby weight you can get those little clips that go on the back to draw in the extra material.

I'm not sure about the folic acid making your pee yellow. I take a prenatal vitamin but it hasn't made my pee look funny. I think folic acid is a B vitamin and those can make your pee yellow but I would just leave a message for your DR. to be safe. Also if you aren't drinking enough water a darker urine could be a sign of dehydration!

Morning Ladies!

2buns - I'm not sure I can really help you with where to buy maternity wear as I'm in Australia! I really started showing in the last week or so. I've gone from looking a bit fat to looking pregnant and Monday was the last day I will have attempted to wear my normal jeans as it was getting uncomfortable when I was sitting down. I've bought a pair of nice cargo type maternity pants for work (on special for about $19), several t'shirts ($10 - $12 each), Bonds Bumps tracksuit pants (these were about $40 but very comfy, I race home to put them on!), and a couple of maxi dresses - remember as I'm in the southern hemisphere, we are heading into summer. I'm not sure about the folic acid making your pee yellow, sorry, can't help there! I was taking folic acid, elevit, Vit D and fish oil but have since dropped the folic acid as the elevit has plenty of it anyway. Has your bleeding stopped yet?

My understanding of the contractions is that you get them in your uterus on and off all the time anyway, pregnant or not. It's like waves moving through the muscle and you can't feel it. It was just unfortunate that the contraction was right over the top of my placenta, right in the middle of the uterus at the time of the ultrasound.

Hope - It was a 4D ultrasound as well as a normal ultrasound but we didn't get very good pictures unfortunately. I'll try and scan the pics later in the week and post them. It was very cute seeing Bean yawning and swallowing and putting his/her hand up to it's face and stretching his/her fingers. Because we didn't want to know the sex, we only saw the top half of Bean in the 4D scan, but that's OK!

I haven't felt any movement yet, but I have an anterior placenta, so I'm told that this will make it harder for me to feel Bean until she/he really gets going. I thought I felt it the other night as I was having a really bad night's sleep and was tossing and turning and a couple of times when I rolled over I thought I felt as though I could feel the baby moving across as well, but I'm not sure.

Unless there is some reason to suspect a problem, no more ultrasounds for us. I'm happy with that because I don't want any reason to have to see Bean again! I imagine given that I'm still high risk, I probably will get another look though! My sister in law was very amazed and excited to see the baby which was really nice, especially given my own mother's lack of enthusiasm regarding anything to do with the baby (hence why I asked SIL instead of mum).

Hope all is well.

Hi guys, I had another bad day today. This morning I woke up and put the dog in the backyard. As I was walking back to my room I felt really wet down there, so I put my down there and it was covered in water. I called my Dr. And he said to go in at 9 to get an ultrasound done. So when I got there they said no Dr.s were in because they were all in surgery and they didn't have me down for an ultrasound so they couldn't give me one. I ended up on seeing a nurse, who was very rude, and I feel like she dismissed the whole situation, she didn't even look at my face. They checked my urine and said it was fine and then she checked me down there and said I was fine as well. She said she was going to look at my last ultrasound, 2 Mondays ago, to see if she thinks I need another one. She said the last one looked good so she wasn't going to give me another one and if it happened again to go in. I just feel like they think I'm making this up or something because if I was handling this situation I would get to the bottom of it. Since then I've had about 3 painful cramps that last about 5 seconds, the last one was about an hour ago. Has anyone been through this before or know of anyone who has? Any advice will help.

2buns- WTF I can't belive they wouldn't give you an ultrasound and treated you so badly! I would leave a message to have a DR. not a nurse call you back. They can't possibly be in surgery ALL day. I would also let that Dr. know how rude everyone one was especially when you were freaking out. Whatever happend to having a little compassion? I guess if you are super concerned you could always go to the ER. I'm sure they would give you an ultrasound just to make sure one of the bags of water didnt break. Only problem with that is then you have to pay for the ER costs. We had to go to the ER when I first started bleeding because we were miscarring our twin. I'm sorry I haven't had this happen or know what it is, but I hope you can get some answers pronto! Maybe your Dr. office can send a referral to an imaging lab or something. Either way I would make some more calls and see if there is anywhere you can get in for an u/s just to be safe.

2Buns - You have excellent cause for complaint about your treatment by the clinic given that the DR. told you to go in for an ultrasound. It wasn't simply a case of you having a panic attack and wanting an ultrasound just to make you feel better, there was something wrong! Ring your DR again. Even if you're OK now, there's still good reason to want an ultrasound. I really think that clinics lose sight of just how difficult this journey is for some of us. We didn't forget to take the pill one morning and find ourselves unexpectedly pregnant - there's not one of us who would say this has been an easy journey to get this far and that every ache, every twinge, every spot of blood is cause for grave concern! It's not easy, or fun, or even exciting sometimes because I know I feel like I've fought every step of the way to get this far! It is only now after my 19 week ultrasound that I finally feel at peace with knowing everything is going perfectly well and I can start enjoying being pregnant (if only I could stop throwing up!). I say all that and this HAS been a relatively easy journey for us - one transfer for one pregnancy, so I can only imagine how much more difficult it is for those who've fought so much harder to get this far. You have every reason in the book to stand up and demand that a DR see you and that you get an ultrasound 2Buns, I wouldn't take it lying down! Hugs and I hope everything is fine.

Feeling horrible morning sickness now. I do not like at all. Good luck with the ultrasound, be sure to let me know how it goes. I understand the clothes are already starting to feel very nice! I think I got a little bloated, which is so far HRT until I go on progesterone and estrogen, I can tell you if it comes from beans or drugs.

2buns- I wanted to check in to see how you and your little ones are doing. Were you able to get in anywhere yesterday for an ultrasound? Did you get a chance to talk to your actual doctor? I hope everything is ok. Let us know when you get a chance.

Hi Ladies,
Thank you so much for your advice and concerns. Well yesterday morning it happened again and at that point I was peeved. I came to school because I knew if I stayed home it would drive me insane. Other teachers here were very helpful and gave me numbers to their OBGYNs. I called 2 of them and got 1 reply towards the end of the day, but around lunch time I decided to call my DRs office to tell them what happened and threatened to leave. I basically told them that I wasn't getting the kind of attention I needed there and feel like I need to get a 2nd opinion. The nurse said, "Oh no don't do that, go ahead and come in at 1:30." I said, well I'm not going in if I'm not going to see a Dr. and she said I would be seeing one. Well, when I got their I swear I was a queen. The nurses, technician, lady at the front desk, and Dr. were all so nice all of a sudden. My Dr. apologized for the previous day and said next time that happens just go ahead and tell someone that you aren't leaving until you see your Dr. He took 5-6 different types of tests, gave me an ultasound and checked me down there again. He talked with me for about 25-30 minutes about the results and explained every single little detail. First of all, the babies fluid was fine, it was at 17 cm and he said it should be at 5-20 in the 2nd trimester, so that was great news. He then explained exactly what the water was. Basically, my uterus is 25 weeks already and things are already getting kind of tight in there. When I stay lying down for a long period of time, my discharge collects behind a muscle, white disharge, along with urine. This mixes together and forms a watery clear fluid. When I get up and start moving around I am having contractions, which cause the muscle to move and then all of a sudden the fluid is released. I was so glad to hear this great news along with family and friends. So, long story short, he basically said if I'm ever worried about any other situation, to go straight in, because if I'm stressed then the babies are stressed and he's there to clear my mind. He also said if something like this happens after hours or on the weekend to just go straight in to the maternity floor where he or his partners will be. Needless to say, I am releaved and learned a lesson, don't put up with BS. :D

2buns- Oh I am so glad that everything is fine with the babies! Whew what a relief. I guess the old saying is true "the squeaky wheel gets the grease". So remember next time don't take no for an answer and squeak away until you get to see the Dr!

Dys- I'm glad to hear everything is great with you guys too. How do you know that your baby is a girl already? Did you do PGD? I'm sure your DD is so excited to have a little sister to play with. Since they are so close in age I bet they will be best friends for life.

Have a great weekend everyone. Kizmet some day I will get pics of my nursery on here I swear!

2Buns - Excellent news! I'm glad you stood up for yourself and got some answers. That must be an enormous relief for you and your DH.

Dys - Congrats on being on team pink. DH and I have elected not to find out until the birth but I'm still quite convinced Bean is a boy. No real reason, just a hunch - which I still think is funny as I always thought I'd have a girl but since day one it has felt like a boy! Equally happy with either though. :D I don't think I've felt any movement yet. I have an anterior placenta so I'm told it will take a little longer than usual to feel bubs. :(

Hope - I've taken some pics of my now near complete nursery, I just need to download them off the camera and I'll post them in the next couple of days. I've only got a couple of major purchases left to make - a bath, a stroller/pram and a car seat. I would also like a rocking/feeding chair for the nursery but I still need to convince DH this is a good plan! We finished the wall paper border on Sunday and am so happy with how it came up!

AFM - I really think I've hit the 2nd trimester glow, although I've still got morning sickness, I just feel so excited and happy about things! It's such a relief after how stressed I felt for the last 20 weeks! DH is starting to get excited now too. We had an interesting conversation last night about someone we saw in the street pushing a set of boy/girl twins, she was a teen mother who was swearing and fighting with two teen boys who were with her and she was saying how she hated the babies and they had spoiled her life and she didn't want them. It was really quite heart breaking. Message boards like this one have really opened my eyes to the struggles and emotional trauma some people go through just for the opportunity to have their own child and when I see something like this girl who clearly isn't interested, my heart breaks even more for those who struggle so much. DH was actually almost in tears talking about this and it really bought home to me how stressful us getting pregnant was for him too.

Kizmet- Congrats on being halfway through your pregnancy! I dont know about you but it seems that time flies by quickly even if we are eagerlty waiting for our little ones to arrive. I'm glad that your nursery is almost done. :D I can't wait to see your pictures. I took some of mine too and will try to post them for you to see this week. I know what you mean about people taking for granted the blessings they are given. We had a sad event in the city I live in this week. Some guy beat his girlfriends 4 year old son to death because he wet his pants. Poor baby held on for 3 days in the hospital before God took him home. I have to wonder sometimes why God blesses those he does with beautiful children when they dont want them or dont care for them. Especially when so many of us who can't have children or have difficulties would love to take care of them and will cherish each moment. Seems so sad but I'm sure He must have His reasons.
