Hi

Post by beckncraig »

Hope you don't mind us jumping in on your thread but me and my husband only just found this site. We're doing ivf for the first time and have done our embryo transfer. our test is on 28th Feb. We felt positive about the whole thing until we went for embryo transfer and was told that our eggs had fragments.

This kind of killed the moment, our attitude went from excitement to gobsmacked in a couple of moments, we haven't given up on the embryos but just get a sense of negativity. I know a lot of you guys are on a 3rd or 4th cycle so it would be nice spending the next couple of days hearing what you have to say.

It's only been 3 days since the transfer it seems like 3 months. It has been a right emotional rollercoaster already.

By the way as we're new we don't understand a lot of the abbreviations that you all use in here.

Hope you don't mind us joining you, but you all seem like nice people with a common cause.

We have a dog called eddie, he's a right little cutie

Welcome "BecknCraig",
This is our first time at ivf as well, so I can't really answer any of your questions. Our ec is not until next week, so I have no idea what the eggs and embryos will be like. Like you, we are so excited and can't envisage things going wrong. I know we do still have hurdles to get over but the excitement feeling is too powerful and outweighs the negative emotions of doom. I might be setting myself up to fall but heh .....
Good luck to you ... you are ahead of the rest of us who haven't got to ec yet. Carry on being excited. I've read threads on here that talk about people getting pregnant from embryos that have been said to not be good quality. Hopefully one of these people will reply to you. You might want to start your own thread asking people advice about embryo quality - so that you get some positive stories to see you through the 2ww (2 week wait).
Sorry I can't be of any more help. Hello to Eddie .... we could set up our own FCB crufts soon!!

SUSAN - I'm swimming with side effects from the drugs. Can't shift my headache and am basically a right old moody cow about silly things like what sofa I want to sit on! (also have a black and blue tummy). But worst of all I have no concentration - can't seem to do any work, just wandering off to the kitchen and eating. I've put on over half a stone. I can't believe it (woops a bit Victor Meldrew), I thought that by cutting out the pints of beer that I used to drink at the weekend would take inches off my belly and thighs - but oh no I am now addicted to Haribos TangFastics which has tripled my sugar intake.
Hello to the rest of you. There's so many of us.
If I've got this right Dizzy has ec this week, and are the rest of us all booked for ec next week?
Don't forget the water and milk, and lots of positive dreams.
+++ive vibes.
Love from Sophie-Jane

Hey all,
There are lots of us aren't there!
Debra, Sydney is a fabulous city!!, I went to Sydney Uni and would wag every now and then (alright, a little more frequently than that!) and hang out in the city, usually shopping, going to movies, meeting the inappropriate men that you refer to (maybe the same ones!!), Mosman would be absolutely delightful to live in. My parents are a bit further north than that, but dh and I often go shopping and just driving around Mosman, is truly beautiful.
Wendy, your boot sound divine!, am completely a shoe freak, my faves are slides of any description so that my painted toe nails poke out the end!!!
Beckand Craig, welcome to the IVF world, you'll be our first to test, really looking forward to hearing your news. You get used to the abreviations (I was stuffed initially!!), main ones: ec - egg collection, et - embryo transfer, af - auntie flo or period, BFP - big fat positive and PMA - positive mental attitiude, a very important thing!!!. Re. your fragmentation, I say bollocks to that (am picking up the UK slang you see!!), I have read many a woman on this site pregnant after really crappy quality embies, so don't stress!

forgot just how strong these drugs are!!!!!
seroius hot sweats which i don't seem to remember from last time, anyone else getting these?
Welcome beckncraig, this 2 week wait is a nightmare I know but you just have to keep as strong and positive as possible, remember it only takes one embryo to do the job,I will be sending you lots of pma (positve mental attitude through cyberspace).
Hi Susan, know what you mean about the yuk feeling, its the lack of concentration that i find difficult.
Loopy,am glad everything is o.k now and back on track, remember lots of water (at least 3 litres a day my clinic tells me)
Bel,hope Aus is still sunny,Its bloody miserable here is London ,2 of our closest friend have just emigrated to Sydney so am a bit gutted but hopefully planning a trip next year.
Anyway sorry for the ramble

Hi everyone, hope you’re all keeping up the PMA :D :D

Welcome beckncraig, I’m another one on my first IVF and you’re ahead of me so I’ll be asking you for advice! :D
Sophie Jane – I kept getting headaches too but my clinic said it was ok for me take paracetamol which eventually shifted it, are you able to take anything? I daren’t get on the scales as I dread to think how much weight I’ve put on, like you I can’t stop going to the fridge!
Magnus - I was injecting rather than sniffing but i had hot flushes during the night after i'd had the injection but they only lasted a couple of weeks until i got used to the drugs.

I’ve been given to go ahead for e/c on Friday, so final injection tonight –yipee. Now I’ve got to look forward to sticking pessaries where the sun doesn’t shine for two weeks! :D
Bit nervous about the e/c does anyone have any tips?

Dizzy, good luck for Friday and well done for getting to this stage so far.

Re. EC, I think most people are honest enough to say it isn't the most pleasant aspect of the tmt but a lot depends on what meds you are given. Reading the posts on this, some people are knocked out completely, others very heavily sedated right down those just given a mild relaxant and local numbing. I remember not liking it but staring hard at the screen and watching what was going on. The Bio-technician was also coming in to report instantly on whether or not follicle had an egg or not so there was some comings and goings to help distract me.

My advice is keep looking at the screen, brief DH on his role (distraction, reminding you why you're doing this, the possible results, silly stories, etc.) and try to relax - not easy but tensing up will only make the doctor's job more difficult.

Again, good luck for Friday and there are plenty of first time success stories to keep you feeling +++++++++++

love
Debra.

Hi all,
I agree with all that Deb has said re. ec for Magnus. I was knocked out completely, sems to be the way they do things here, was good for me though, I am naturally a stressor, so was lovely to wake up and it be all over! My only advice would be to relax as much as possible and brief dh well on his role. Also remeber to take it easy after the procedure, they've been poking and prodding around a pretty delicate area, you're gonna feel a bit sore, just means dh will have to treat you like a princess!

Magnus, where in Australia are your freinds emigrating to?, its bloody hot here at the moment, we're in the high 30's (Celcius!) every day this week, and will be up to 40 by the weekend. Is awful actually. At night we just lie about in our pool and have BBQ's and red wine, is too hot to do anything else!
Take care all, more blood testign for me tomorrow, bring on that LH surge I say!!!

Hi, Dizzy I hope EC went well today. Let us know how it went/how many etc.

My uterine scan went well today (8.1mm) so will go back next Tuesday for a muscular injection (not had that before and can't say I'm looking forward to it - any tips??) then Wednesday for ET. We've only 2 frosties left now so fingers crossed that at least one survives the defrost.

Have a good weekend,
love and PMA
Debra.

Hi all,
Felt very miserable today... these drugs are a bugger... and decided to look on net for msg group and found you guys. Spent the last hour or so reading all the msgs and glad to see so many of us in the same boat. We are doing our 2nd try at IVF... 1st was in 2001(failure) and 2nd was planned for Apr 02 but the day b4 sniffing they found my tubes were buggered so had to go on NHS waiting list to have them removed as they were possibly responsible for killing my embryos last time... so good riddance!!
Anyway I am now at end of 1st wk of Menopur with ec planned for Fri 27 and et on the Sun or Mon. Last time had no problems with drugs... always happy but now feel as if I could commit murder! Had cyst aspiration last Monday... god knows how any of you who've had it done felt it.... I'm such a wimp I just pass out completely and wake up after. Ec was a little more painfull from the bit I can remember.. when dh kept waking me to ask if I was ok!! For someone who faints at the sight of a needle, IVF is definitely not pleasant... but hopefully the results are!!
Good luck to you all. It's good to find some new buddies!!

Hi Kathryn. Did you find some posts on cyst aspiration recently? I remember seeing some not long ago. Sadly, you will find plenty of people in the same boat as you here. It's unusual that a question isn't answered with direct experience. I think most people read most threads but don't hesitate to start a new thread if you want a wider-than-FCB audience. Having said that, good luck with the mood altering meds. I'm only on Progynova but checked today that my twice coming close to tears in the past 24hrs (once at the post office and once on a bus, over v. minor matters) was par for the course - and it is! I'm also quite angry all the time. Poor DF, he gets up at 0530 and this morning didn't hear his mobile ringing. I charged out of bed, snatched it up and virtually threw it across the bathroom at him....poor sod.

Again welcome and you will find all the support, advice and nonsense (!) you want here!

Debra.

Hi Ladies

Thank goodness its the weekend again, well finally got a date for my ec, Monday so no more Menopur, oh and by the way I have 40 follies, yes 40!

I had my blood tested though and they seem quite happy with the hormone levels and not overly concerned with Ohs, the most I've ever had is 25 before and they are all a reasonable size so as a result my belly is massive, suposed to be going to the football tomorrow but don't know if I've got anything to wear cause my jeans just won't fit. Still at least I'm now off work for three weeks so can live in my jammies.

Loopy, hope your scan goes ok on Monday
Bel, how were the blood tests?
Dizzy, hope you got on ok today with the ec.
Sophie Jane, I agree with everything you said, the drugs have made me fat & stupid.
July ann & Debra looks like we will all start the 2ww around the same time.
Beckncraig- Hi, hope your coping with the waiting, don't worry re the quality it seems to just boil down to luck at the end of the day.

Well off to put my feet up, have a bit chocolate & watch Eastenders, Friends & Sex in the City.

Speak to you all soon

Thank You All

Post by beckncraig »

Thank you to everyone for a warm welcome. We didn't realise that we would be the first ones to do the test this month

To DebraP, Dizzy
The ec was fine was heavily sedated for it, had period like pains for short time after went back to work 2 days later. Slightly overstimulated so felt quite bloated. All in all wasn't a bad experience, quite exciting in a wierd way.

Well only another long week to wait for our test :? . Seems like time has stood still, got to keep up the PMA though. Don't seemed to be as worried as we first were when we found out about our embies thanks to you all.

Good luck to everyone fingers crossed and lots of :D :D :D :D :D
