21bat - I just wanted to add my 2 cents about the ICSI thing. Before my first try, my RE told me that one of the possible reasons we can't get pregnant on our own may be that the outer shell of my eggs are so thick that the sperm cant penetrate it. He cited one of his patient's scenarios where she had 19 eggs, they did ICSI on 9 and left 10 to fert. on their own. The 9 w/ICSI all fertilized, but the 10 left on their own didn't. I really don't think they are trying to get more money, but then again I may be naive. I think you have to weigh the cost of the ICSI against how you will feel if you end up with none of them fertilizing. Is the $2600 savings worth the risk of possibly not having any fertilize? I've seen a few gals on this site who had 19 or 20 eggs at ER and then didn't make it to ET because of zero fert. It's a gamble, but for me personally, I would much rather have paid the money and gotten to ET than to go thru all that we do and not make it to ET in the end. Again...it's my 2 cents and you and DH should do what you are comfortable with, both emotionally and financially. I just wanted to mention what my RE told me. Best of luck to you sweetie...

I have a tough question to ask you girls. Would you consider reduction? If so, at which point?
My RE discussed things with us at length and said that with 4 embies, the most likely scenario is that we get a singleton or twins, or a BFN. Well he said the chance of triplets or quadruplets are small (the embies can also split on their own so you can have more than 4 even if you transferred only 4). He highly recommended reduction if we had more than 3 because of the complications of multiple pregnancies, lifelong issues with undeveloped lungs, heart. What is your opinion on this matter?

Rio: For me, I will not consider reduction. My last IVF overseas there was no facilities to freeze the embies, so I told the RE to fertilize only 5 eggs and put in me any that took. I got three embies (BFN). This time my RE will only put in one or two embies max. I feel more comfortable with this since reduction is not an option I will consider. Even if two embies both split. Reduction is really abortion, so it goes back to what your feelings are on abortion. Hopefully you won't have to decide, b/c it is a really tough decision.

cornybaby: I see your point on ICSI. I guess I am overly skeptical about RE's intentions. I had not heard of the egg shells being too tough, good point to consider. But I guess I wonder why not do ICSI too all if your paying for it??wht to just half??

21bat: I will let you know what my lining is in the morning. It doesn't really matter that you do them in a differnt site each time. They only say to alternate so it doesn't get a bruise. If you can't see a mark, then don't worry about it.

Hello everyone else! This board really helps keep me positive. I was getting a bit short with dh this evening, at least the meds are having some effect. I don't really remember getting bloated last IVF either... hmm maybe I am a freak of nature!

Wow! I went to a movie & the board went crazy. Saw Juno....of course..LOL
Very cute.
Ummm...
Loopie: I usually stim am & pm and take Lupron am & pm, but they just had me do Lupron & stim once with reduced dose of 100 of Gonal. I'm close but not quite, so yes ..yet another u/s & b/w tomorrow. I think I'll be with you Sunday.
I felt a little nausea tonight..I think it's 20 u of Lupron for 2 weeks..finally getting to me. That's a lot. I'm so ready to do this already!!

TAMMY: Goooooo! I bet you're excited & I know those follies are going to perform. I have to get up around then with the time change for my u/s at 7.30 LA time so I'll be sending good vibes. Let us know as soon as you can.

Marin: You do take the prize from Loopie & the interstate restroom :D

21Bat: I had to do 4 a day. I could kind of see little red dots on the newer ones so I'd alternate sides & up and down ( not above navel) like Tammy. I do look a little scary now though after 11 days. No idea on the lining, I just kept track of follie size & E2.
ICSI...I think the half and half would be good. It's included in ours from the beginning. I think it's awful that they spring this on you in the middle...they could have discussed the different scenarios beforehand.

Rio : Yeah, with 4 I guess you have to consider that. Tough tough one. But they also say that over 3 may also threaten the mother's health so that's a real consideration. It's bad either way. I think over 3 I would, but i may feel differently with them inside me. Boy, that's hard.

Much dust to everyone

G'DAY ladies
Loopie had to laugh about your DING DONG comment I live in Australia and we don't have them here the food variety that is but even i knew what a ding dong was what were you thinking you cheeky girl HA ha

Mia if your a freak of nature because you aren't bloated i wishi was too it's so not fun it might be a good sign that you won't over stimm

Rbjean goodluck starting your stimms on saturday i'm still stimming myself i'm 6 or so days ahead of you is this your first cycle.

Marin you'll be fine i actually find the gonal f shots easier than the LUcrin let us know how you go

21bat i don't know maybe you should ask the direct question to your doc or nurse how much will your chances be improved if you use the icsi and then make your decision it is a lot of money but hey if your budget goes there and your chances are greatly improved then why not

Seeing the questions about icsi have been brought up i thought i'd ask what you all think because we have to use a donor our clinic will use icsi for our cycle at no cost if we choose to does anybody know any stats on icsi versus non icsi cycles i only ask as i heard and i don't know if its correct or not that if you do have icsi there is a higher chance of defects and was wondering if it's worth it or not any input appreciated

Rio you know what i don't know if anyone can really answer that question until your in the situation it's such a hard issue to deal with i guess the right answer to give you is chat with dh see what you would both be comfortable with rememberring your more capable than you think and then if it becomes an issue you'll make the right one for you and well all support your decision. but for now no stressing allowed

As for me i think my left ovary is hard at work i'm having slight jabs everynow and again and beginning to feel abit tender did anyone else get lower back pain at all. Other than that we are all good except the car crash we were all in yesterday nobody hurt thankfully just the cars

Best be of bye bye

Jomae - I am so glad you are ok, scary! My goodness!

About ICSI, I was reading about it before we made the decision. The net says that there is a slight increase in the risk f birth defects but the increase s very minimal. The speculation is that by using ICSI you can fertilize an egg with sperm that normally would not be able to fertilize an egg normally, and depending on why that sperm could not fertilize the egg normaly there could be an abnormality passed along to the child. Does that make any sense? My DH had a daughter 11 years ago but got his count lowered due to chemo, but the RE said that the sperm that was there was normal, just too few too fertilize alone.

HI ladies!
ok-rinnie - so to regain my title, I will do my trigger while dancing on the bar where I used to work - and so - we are ER buddies !!!!!!!

jomae- yes, agreed- cheeky -and very glad you're ok after that shakeup-take it easy on yourself today

rio- the reduction thing is a big concern - I do not know if it is something we'd be able to do. I am a firm believer in a woman's right to choose, so on a moral level I see no problem with it - it's just after what we've all gone through to get to that point, it just seems like 1 more decision none of us should have to make. Hopefully none of us will encounter that as a possibility.
Tammy- how are you feeling today? have you had ER?
weezie- good on you! I haven't even felt frisky- not to mention that DH had a kidney stone for the last 2 weeks- had surgery to remove it last week, so he's not really feeling it either and he had to freeze a sample just to be on the safe side for sunday
bat- how are the shots?
mia- still on track for Monday ER?
katie, kbear? everyone? how's it going
had more BW/US this morning- the phlebotomists are becoming my best friends at this point
Looks like the follies got bigger -got 1 that's 23mm- my estro level was not quite up to snuff as of yesterday, but my lining is now about 12 or so (and that's after 13 days of shots!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
so- I'm definitely triggering tonight - will get all the details in a few hours

yeah, rin, the hormone shots are really getting to me too-pretty sure that was the major cause of my meltdown yesterday -still teetering on the edge of tears today, but have acupuncture in an hour which should help glad HCG is tonight- then a whole saturday night off

take care you wonderful miracle makers - baby karma goes out to each and every one of you

love love

Good Morning Girls!!
Loopie: Poor dh; kidney stones are NOT fun! Hope he is completely recovered so he can wait on you hand and foot :)
Jomae: I think Rio is right. the theory is that the best sperm will make it through the eggs on their own, so when the RE chooses what LOOKS like the best sperm, it might not be. I haven't really read though any stats on the % of birth defects. That is something I guess I need to look into. Man IVF makes you seek out so many decisions from yourself that you never thought you'd have to make. It can be a bit frustrating. BTW I have also had quite a bit of lower back pain, you aren't alone.

Rinnie: Are you having ER on Sunday??

Well had my u/s and b/w today. Everything looks great :) Lining I think was 12 mm (7 days of stimming). I can't remember how many follies, but they are supposed to email me the list + E2 levels. I go in tomorrow morning, and RE says WE ARE A GO FOR MONDAY ER!!! Such a relief. My first IVF was sooo stresssful b/c the RE had me come in EVERY day and I was never big enough :( He kept adding meds and I was such a slow responder.

Who else had ER coming up?? I need to go look at the list...

Yeahhhh Rin and Loopie- Trigger tonight :D I'm very excited for ya'll. Loopie I love the "dancing on a bar" comment. Do that and you will without a doubt be the recipient of the "golden needle" award.

Mia- No bloating? You are lucky. My tummy is pretty big and every now and then I feel pressure on one side or the other. But we all know, it's worth it. Monday ER sounds GREAT! Grow follies grow. :)

Jomae- please take care of yourself. Car accidents are not a good thing.

Rio- I hope you and DH are not faced with the delimma of reduction. A singleton or twinkies is the news I bet you get.

Bat- what's the news? How many follies today? 40? LOL. You are moving, girl. I feel like a granny.

RBJean/Marin- come on Ladies! Good luck with the stimming. I hope the 2 of you respond really well!

Tammy = I hope you are feeling okay.

I'm just sitting here today. No appointment till tomorrow. DH is on his way home for the weekend. I'm waiting for Fedex to send me some more menopur. I've done all my work for the month really and I have nothing to do. Well, I guess I could pack some more. But who wants to do that? I really hope the acupuncture did something for me yesterday. And yes Rin, she did stick a needle smack dab in the center of my head. I doubt if I trigger Sunday. I'm guessing more like Monday or Tuesday. Oh well, we'll see.

I hope all of you have a GREAT day!!!
