Hi Bonnie,

I rented it at 9 weeks and I was able to hear it that early.. and I have extra fat too! LOL... Now at 15 weeks I don't have to search forever to find it, I go right to the spot and there it is. It's the most gorgeous sound in the world.

I rented mine from www.dynamicdoppler.com and it's $42 a month to rent. I am only keeping it until I can feel him move full time so that is why I didn't invest $$$ to buy one.

Let me know if you decide to get one. For the first week or so sometimes it can take up to 30 minutes to locate the fetal HB. Of course I was looking in the wrong place

Hi JenMink, Glad to hear you are progressing well into the 2nd trimester, and it sounds like everything is going great! Remind me, didn't you go through PGD testing and got pregnant with a FET? I'm just looking at more options and plan to cycle away in May. Congratulations once again! Christy

Hello everyone! I'm so glad to hear how well you're all doing!

Alisa- I hope everything is going well at home with Evie! She is gorgeous!

ttcnb- You are really doing awesome! You are my hero!

Jen- I know that it must be very reassuring to hear that sweet little heartbeat. As far as food goes, I just avoid any seafood (I hate it anyway), lunch meat, soft cheeses, Sweet N Low, caffeine, and alcohol. There are so many worries during pregnancy that I haven't let that one stress me out too much :)

Yingz- Congrats on Chloe's birth! I'm glad to hear that she's doing well!

Katie and Deftonesmo- Not long now ladies! Can't wait to see pictures of those beautiful babies!

Nancy- Hang in there! Maybe that little one will flip around before the big day! I have also heard awful things about turning breech babies :?

Bodie- I first felt my little ones around 17- 18 weeks but I wasn't really sure what I was feeling. Now it's very clear. I love the feeling!

Lyd- I'm so impressed that you already have child care squared away! That is what is freaking me out right now :|

Ester- Hope you're still doing well!

AFM- I did my 3 hour GTT a little over a week ago, and it was borderline...only 1 abnormal value. They said that with twins they would recommend that I go ahead and go on a GD diet. I met with the dietician for 2 hours last Friday, and I've had to cut out some foods I love, but it's worth it to keep these little ones healthy! So far my 1 hour post-meal glucose levels have been 80- 100, so I'm hoping I don't have to alter anything further! At my last OB appointment my cervix had shortened to 3 cm, but they're still happy with that. Next appt is in a week. We finally had all of our furniture delivered, and I am so excited to see the nursery shaping up! I had a shower last week, and have 2 more this week. After those 2 showers, we're going to go ahead and buy what we still need.
Now the big stress is our child care. We met with daycares when I was about 8 weeks pregnant, and we've been on the waiting list with 2 of them. Unfortunately it looks like we won't get in until Sept. I have to go back to work at the end of May. So we're trying to figure out if we need a nanny. Does anyone know how much a nanny for 2 newborns might cost? It seems like such a taboo subject to talk about cost with people, but it's so important! Any input would be appreciated! Thanks ladies!

WishingandHoping - Before I decided to take off a year we had started interviewing nannies. It varies depending on the responsibility that you give them and where you live. Here in Virginia the going rate is $10-15/hr (closer to $20 for 2 children) or $400-700 a week depending on how many hours a day. At this rate you can expect childcare and light cleaning - mainly areas related to the children. If you are looking at 40 hours a week or more for child care it is better to pay a set rate per week versus an hourly rate. However, there are nannies that only accept an hourly rate (we met with 2 that only considered jobs that paid hourly). There are also agencies that provide nannies. Now they will run you over $20 an hour but you have the peace of mind that there is a guaranteed person as well as background check etc. I have horror stories from co-workers of nannies who did not show up to work or would suddenly have to leave in the middle of the day. The most important thing is references and ensuring reliability. Unfortunately the ones with experience who have a good reputation are very expensive. We had one nanny who wanted us to also pay her health insurance - but since you are looking at a short term situation that should not be an issue for you.

Jennifer - My OB gave me a list of what foods to avoid. Other than staying away from alcohol, excessive caffeine, raw meat and fish everything else is pretty safe. I had such bad vomiting for the first 16 weeks that my appetite has changed significantly. Anyways, try no too stress too much about what you eat. My OB reminded me that a large majority of the population does not find out they are pregnant until the 2nd trimester and they go on to have healthy babies. He swears unnecessary stress will do more harm than anything else. I also remember that women who are deficient in iron can have what is called Pica where they eat all sorts of crazy things (clay, detergent - etc) and they also do fine (if only eaten in small amounts and the deficiency is corrected early enough). I worked with a lady that ate detergent (it was soo wierd) while pregnant and went on to have a healthy little girl!!! Anyways, the less you stress about the better, now I am not encouraging you to go and eat detergent, but eat healthy and whatever you like! This is the one time you can eat pretty much anything and not feel guilty!!!

Fvrogers- LMAO!!!! Actually, detergent sounds pretty normal. I used to have a client that would eat sponges!!!!!! One day I was helping her and she asked for a pair of scissors so she could cut up a yellow sponge to eat it DISGUSTING!!!!!!!!!!!! I am avoiding all of the No No's but I am just so paranoid about getting Food Poisoning or something like that. Ugh.... paranoid!

Christy (Sunshine)-- I didn't do PGD with this cycle and it was a Fresh not FET. I have to tell you I was totally shocked when I got a BFP =] Looking forward to your cycle in May my friend, can't wait to see that BFP you SO DESERVE.

Hope everybody is having a great week so far

Jen: I have the big, scary list of foods to avoid too. The list that the military gives makes everything sound even more frightening.

I limit my lunch meat. I don't get it from places that look sketchy and don't eat it often. For example: I wouldn't grab a sandwich off a snack tray that had been left out. I figure that I've never once in my life had listeria and I'm 38 years old as long as I continue to make reasonable choices about what I eat, I should continue to be fine.

I limit my fish, primarily because I was a Metals Chemist that worked with mercury for a number of years... I probably don't need anymore mercury exposure.

I limit caffeine to about 250mg per day.

I don't clean the cat box. My husband swears that it's a prego conspiracy to make men do it.

I 100% avoid alcohol, cigarettes, and any medication not on my safe list or approved by my doctor.

I do my best to reduce risk but I don't freak out. I remind myself that people have been making babies since the beginning of time and that our bodies are designed to protect the baby.

Thanks JenMink, that goes to show us PGD testing isn't always the best answer, in rememberance what you went through. But it goes to show you it will happen when the timing is perfect. I'm so happy you have gotten so far and now in the 2nd trimester. I'll be stalking you, my former cycle buddy! I hope everything at the credit union is going well! :D

Hello Every one of you lovely ladies!!!

Sunshine- PGD hasn't been proven to improve your success rates... (although here it seems to be a big factor...) some trials are going on to try to figure out if newer technology will improve outcomes... but for now, it's not a guarantee...

Jen - happy to hear from you and glad everything is going great!! Lists of foods and things to avoid are scary!! I avoided practically everything in the list... no cold cuts, limited fish, etc... my ob suggested not to dye my hair and now I look like richard gere with a salt and pepper look!!! ... just try to not stress out and choose from options that are "supposed" to be better for us... I love beer, so I found several brands that have alcohol free options and have had them like three times and it's lovely!!!

Happy Bunny - glad all is going great!! are you going to find out what you are having??

Fvrogers - Pica has always been amazing... never met anyone with it, but it sounds weird to see someone eating sponges or detergent!!!

Bliss - I loved your mother's comment on the "pick me!!" brought tears to my eyes!! as I looked back on all these years and so many embies!!! ... Hope you're enjoying every second with Evie!! I can't wait until I join you!!

Katie- wow... friday the 3rd is so close!!! best of luck on the delivery and hope you are soon holding your little girl in your arms!! congratulations!!!

Wishing- hope I could help... but have no idea how much it is to have a nanny... we decided DH will stay home for a while and then we'll deal with daycare / nannies in some months... Better safe than sorry with getting on board with the diet!! but your 1 hr glucose sound wonderful!!

ttcnb - glad your little ones are still in your belly!!! How exciting!! keep us updated!!

Nancy - we're on the same boat.. hope both of our little ones decide to turn around... soon!! I had a lot of pain when she was moving yesterday, so I'm hoping she turned around and is now ready for when the time comes!! hope yours decides to turn soon!! I've seen several versions of breech babies and they haven't been that bad... but they have been with anesthesia on board so that makes a big difference!!

Lyd - you are the most organized person I've ever "known"!!! congratulations!!

ROSIE AND ANNASHOPE- happy bday!!!

AFM- Not much to report... still on couch arrest... went to the ob last week and he checked me... not much has changed... but still he said that he doesn't want me walking around... so still resting... enrolled for lamaze classes for the 36-38 weeks hoping I'll b able to walk to them!! and also to some breastfeeding classes... guess that's about it!!

Sorry if I missed anybody and hope everyone has a wonderful week!!!
