Hello all

Sounds great Tiger about the count down as far as I'm concerned it's going way to slow. Do you have a start date for your cycle yet let me know and we'll start a timer for you to. Funny you said the doctors should sing or something, when I went in for my first egg transfer one of the ladies there said that her doctor makes his patients sing "there's a bear in there, open wide come inside" now thats freaky hey. Thanks agian for taking an interest in whats going on with Dh and I. let me know when you know your dates.

12/1/06 = 12 sleeps to go

Bel - the scan sounds like it went well, but i can understand why you are being cautiously optomistic....remember, this is the dream baby!

BelB - I can understand how you got a little worried by your scan, but the results sound great. I wish the people doing the scans would either say exactly what they mean, or shut up altogether! I always read into things too much & cause myself so much worry!

Where is Heather? Does anyone know where she is? I hope she is well.

Take care

Tiger - I am not back at work until Monday. And I have a really spooky story for you, but I will save it for when I have time to type it all out - its worth the wait........

In regards to work, I am seriously considering a career change. I do enjoy nursing, but find it very stressful most of the time. I would love a job that is less stressful. There are jobs out there that pay the same, but have much less responsibility (or a different type of responsibilty). DH is also concerned with all the lifting I do, and looking after patients who are radioactive or infectious (5 nurses on my ward have confirmed exposure to TB & have to take 6 weeks off work for treatment!) I really want to put IVF first & not have the stress of work. I have had lots of customer service experience as I worked as a flight attendant & ground staff for an airline. I am surfing the net & looking in the paper for job ideas - does anyone have any ideas???? I also want to work Mon-Frid 9-5! I sthis asking too much?? :? :? :?

Miss Molly - you sound exactly like me!!!

I nearly resigned the last IVF cycle I went through, and my boss convinced me to stay. I'm gald I did (need the money), but if my next cycle isn't successful, I am definitely going to ask to go part time.

I have this rationale that most women (or men) change their work/life balance after having children - we unlucky ones with fertility issues maybe need to make those changes before having children. It sounds crazy to people who don't know what it's like, but it makes perfect sense to me!

Bel - your scan sounded like it went ok, I can understand your concern after your earlier loss, but just think of the positive experience you have had with Miss Annie in the mean time - you know your body can make beautiful babies! My concern prior to the first scan was always re ectopic, so at least you are able to know that the little one is in the right place - it sounds like 90 is still within the normal limits, so at the next scan hopefully you will get a real peace of mind.

Miss Molly and Bella - my job is really stressful mentally - which I normally enjoy because it is also very stimulating - but it was intersting to note that my blood pressure went back down by 10 points within a week of going on leave, notwithstanding that we had moved house in the intervening week! I think that it is easy to underestimate the amount of stress on your body that work has, and achieving a work/life balance is so important - but something we don't often get around to, unless we make a deliberate decision.

Hey guys,
Am sooooo tired today, bone tired is the expression I would use..AM about to lie down for a little nap while Annie Boo is asleep, so just a short message from me. Saw my obs today. He is very optimistic and said that it is quite normal for the heart to start off in the 90 bpm department and then get faster. I am booked for another scan in two weeks, but he was very much leaving this in my court, ie if I wanted a scan I could have it, if not, he was happy just to continue. I have to do a blood test tonight and again on Monday to check that my HcG and Progesterone levels are rising adequately, so hopefully that all goes OK. My obs is quite old fashioned and a realy gentleman, he is quite lovely actually. With Annie I had quite a brusk woman, no bed side manner but terribly good at the technical side of things, I decided I wanted a more gently gently approach this time. He was amazed that we fell pregnant naturally with my history and the fact that I am still breastfeeding!

Hey Jo, you're getting closer now. Glad that your BP is fine, my went a little haywire until I went on maternity leave as well, it's amazing the effect that has on your body!

Bella, know what you mean about struggling to get balance and harmony in your life, it's bloody hard work. They you get the bastards who say "just relax and you'll fall pregnant", they have no bloody idea, if it was as simple as that do you think we'd be on this bloody rollercoaster?? (excuse my rant)

MissMolly, would you be a "polyester girl" (don't know if nurses use that expression, but in allied health this is what we call the medical reps)??, sales experience would be a bonus, and I understand that you would work reasonably normal hours??? re. Heather, I think Tiger said that she was taking a bit of a break from things and from the boards at present prior to starting a new cycle some time this year??, I wonder how she's going??

Take care all, to bed I crawl....
B

Hi Everyone.

I just wanted to say a quick (and quiet) hello to all of the Aussie and Kiwi girls here, and ask if anyone would mind my joining in this thread. You all seem like such a supportive and friendly bunch.

My DH (39) and I (30) have male factor infertility (DH has children and had a vasectomy 15+ yrs ago), and are due to see the Dr on the 15th of Feb to discuss IVF. I would expect that we will have ICSI, and hope we can start straight away, or at least as soon as possible.

Apologies if I'm butting in to a thread uninvited, hopefully it's OK that I have just said this little hello.

We're in the Ipswich area too Bel, @ Springfield. Any suggestions about who to see and who to stay well away from?

Congrats to all those who have had success, and fingers crossed for everyone who's still waiting. Hopefully 2006 will bring us all success!

Cheers

Suzanne,

welcome to the site and welcome to the thread :). Sounds like you are still to decide on the clinic and the doctor, hopefully you will find a good doc soon. Everyone here genuinely understands all that you will expereince with IVF so if you have anything you need to ask, don't hesitate and just ask OK? Oh, and no need to be quite, be as loud as you can if you want to, we are the happy and bubbly bunch (usually) here, yeah! Good luck!!

Bel, sounds like you are on the right track with your miracle bub :). Does little Annie know what is going on?? I like your gently gently approached doc; he sounds like a nice guy. I believe docs must have a good bedside manner - of course they should - no matter..highly ......skilled...... they...are.....................................................................hm.

Jomae, I usually do a ticker when I am due to start something new so you can count down with me there. As for you, only 10 more sleeps to go ;) .

Bella, Work and IVF. They don't really go hand in hand do they... You know, we have leaves that we are entitled to ie. annual leave, maternity leave and long service leave... why can't we have IVF leave too? Is it bit unrealistic???

Josie, Work and Stress. They are infinitely connected but there is no other way?!?

MissMolly, I can't wait for another spooky story!! I hate them but I am ever so intrigued by them. I totally understand why you are thinking of a career change...can you get into administrative side of things? or a Medical Rep type jobs?

Have a lovely weekend all. Cheers, Tiger

Hi guys,
Suzanne, welcome, and we love new people, so you are very much welcome to the aussie / kiwi thread. How lovely to have someone who lives close to me!!, there are a few Queenslanders up here, but no one else in our neck of the woods. Which fertility clinic are you going to?, as you've probably discovered they're all in Bris-Vegas. I go through QFG at Wickham Terrace (I see the lovely Marianne Ilbury), there is also Wesley at Auchenflower, Monash at Springwood (which I believe has recently merged with Wesley), and Brisbane Fertility also at Wickham Terrace. You here good and bad about all of them, though I have to say I am very biased towards QFG. They have the second best stats in Australia (after Sydney IVF) and an excellent patient support network as well. When you get pregnant I would definately recommend John Vesey if you're going privately in Ippy, he is in Pring Street just near St Andrews hospital, and just delightful. I had my daughter Annie through Katie Taylor and she was OK as well, though I think John has a wonderful bed side manner which is really important. Would love to chat further, let me know which clinic and doctor you are going through and I'll let you know if I have any light to shed..
Good luck!
Belinda :D

Hi Suzanne and welcome to the thread - your situation sounds similar to ours - DP had a vasectomy 10+ years ago, so we had the choice of considering a reversal or ICSI. With the reversal, because of the length of time, there was no 'guarantee' (is there ever?) that the reversal would work, with the added issue that we would then need to try for 12 months to see if things were going to happen by themselves. I am a bit older than you (37), so we decided to try the ICSI rather than wait for a year and still possibly be in the same boat.

We were incredibly lucky, having a sucess with our first attempt, with our baby due 16 Feb. The whole process has taken around 12 months, as our first appointment with the andrologist was also in Feb. We didn't find the treatment difficult or particularly unpleasant - I went on the pill for a cycle, then a nasal spray for a few weeks, and then daily needles which aren't as bad as you might think (some on this post think the needles are better than the nasal spray, I'm not that much of a fan...). DP then had a needle biopsy to extract sperm, which was injected into the three eggs we had managed to produce - and that was pretty much that. He didn't find the biopsy too uncomfortable, I am pretty sure he had a local anaesthetic, but he was back at work the next day.

Good luck with everything, and keep in touch to let us all know how you get on.
