Hi Suzanne - I'm a bit late too, but welcome!!! How did your appointment go on the 15th? Have you decided on a clinic yet? I went to City Fertility Centre for my last cycle when I was living in Brissy. Didn't like it too much, but then, I didn't have a successful cycle, so that may affect my opinion a bit!!!

Angel - good to hear that all went well. Looks like with a BFP that you wont be having any beers on Australia day!

Bel - how's it all going? Are you feeling sick still?

We go for our appointment with the nurse tomorrow, so a bit excited. It seems like forever since our last cycle, and I just can't wait to get back into it. Still indulging in a lot of things that a soon to be pregnant woman (hopefully!) shouldn't be, but oh well. Went to see my friends new baby on Sunday, and found out 3 (yes...3) of my friends are now pregnant with their second child. I wasn't someone who got upset at news like this before, but now am quickly feeling it...

Hey guys,

Jo, yep, am feeling tired and chunderous to be honest. I am about to go for a nice lie down (I feel like a pensioner!!), today was a work today, so I am stuffed..I take it that the morning (all day) sickness and fatigue are good signs though, so I look at it from that perspective. I had some bloods done on Friday and then Monday of this week to check that my HcG levels and Progesterone levels were all OK and passed with flying colours. I have a scan booked with Frank Carmody at the Wesley this time next week, so hopefully the heartbeat is fine...

Bella, enjoy that pre-pregnancy time. My advice is to engage in lots of : seafood eating, wine quaffing, sleeping in, staying up late and consuming large amounts of caffeine (if these are things that you enjoy). Since becoming pregnant I have been unable to do any of the above (not that I'm complaining), but I reckon enjoy them while you can!!

Tiger, I must have missed a post from you..why has your cycle been delayed??????

Hi girls
yeh 7 sleeps to go but still 7 to many it's driving me nuts dh is trying to play down the twin possibility incase it's only one and the family are all going on about twins this and twins that knowing there could be two I'll be pleased either way. Either have their benifits 1's easier to handle but 2 means we don't have to do this again I think even if we have two we'd have to go back for a natural frozen cycle to see what happens only because we have 4 on ice but that decisions a long way down the track.
Bel goodluck for your next scan good to see your bloods went well also.
Tiger sorry to hear you may have to postpone your cycle please let us know how you go. I hope things do go the way you want. keep your chin up :D

HI Everyone, and thanks for the warm welcome!

I will try and answer the questions everyone has asked, apologies if I miss any!

Tiger - We've decided to start by seeing Stephen Cook @ the Wesley, we have been waiting 4 mths for an appt, so hopefully we can get started straight away (or at least soon) after our appt on the 15th of Feb.
Sorry to hear about yr delayed cycle, I'm not sure how often it happens, or why, but I hope you're up and going again soon.

BelB - I've heard good things about the QFG, but have a friend who highly recommends Stephen Cook (and has a darling set of twins as a result of his fine handiwork!), so we'll start there, and see how we go.

Dr Vesey delivered my niece, and I agree, he's lovely, but I went to school with his daughter, so it's just a little bit too close for comfort (if you know what I mean!!!) If we do manage to get pregnant, think I would like to try to deliver at the birth centre at the RBH, but I'm not sure if they accept IVF pregnancies. We're going to concentrate on getting pregnant first! :D

Josie - Thanks for your encouraging words. It's good to know that people in similar situations to us have had success.

Angel - Good luck on the 25th, I'm keeping everything crossed for you!

Jomae - thanks for the welcome, we do have a very diverse group don't we!

BellaS - Unfortunately, our appointment isn't until the 15th of Feb, the day after Valentines day. We'll end up at the Wesley I think, so everything is crossed! They've just merged with Monash, so hopefully that is a good thing!

Quick question everyone, ...

Please let me know if there is an unwritten code about this sort of thing, but can I ask how everyone has decided how many embryos to have put back, or does the dr decide, and we just have to go along with it?

DM and I are quite fine with the idea of twins, but the idea of triplets terrifies me, ...

How do we maximise our chances of pregnancy, without ending up with more babies than is safe? Do we just stick with 2 embryos?

Sorry for the long post, thanks for making it to the end!

Hi All,

Suzanne, I wish you best of luck with your appointment with Dr. Cook. I am sure he will let you start on the program as soon as you can :). Everything will be fine, I look forward to your news of BFP in March/April. Re your Q, at my clinic my doc said they usually put back 2 embies but max is only 2 as well. It also depends on other factors ie. how many embies you will get, so for now keep up with your v.positive attitude and stay happy.

Jomae, I am with you. It really doesn't matter whether you have one or two bubs as long as you are happy and your pregnancy is going well. Anyway only 5 more sleeps to go!

MissMolly, how are you going with your tmt? Have you started sniffing yet?

Bella, how did your appointment go with the nurse? Do you know when you are starting on the tmt?

Well, as for me I am feeling TGF. Freezing cold here, today, top of 4c and snow tonight?

Cheers, Tiger

Tiger - that sounds so cold! It's not very nice in old Sydney town atm either. It was only 23 degrees yesterday...a big difference from the 45 on NY day!
My appointment with the nurse went well. She is lovely, and they seem so thorough at Sydney IVF. And the good thing is, the same nurse is my contact all the time. In Brissy, I spoke to a different nurse everytime.
We set some tentative dates - I have a blood test on Monday to check my levels to see if it's OK to start Provera. If all the dates go as planned, I will be doing preg test on 7 March......But depends on OHSS, as apparently I am higher risk now.

Suzanne - on the number of embies, I think it's a combination of your decision & the clinics. In Brisbane, we put 2 in each time (without success), but they said they would not really go above 2 (unless really special circumsances). At my clinic now, they generally only put 1, but they transfer blastocysts (day 5), which tend to have a higher rate of success. My doctor also told me that twins (identical) are higher chance with IVF, so putting 2 back in can mean triplets. This time we are going with 1 b/c of my OHSS.

Bel - how's it all going? I still can't believe how fabulous that is! I want to join you in March!!!

Bella.

Hey guys,
How is everyone?
I had to work this morning, just for a few hours to do a presentation to staff, so Johnie is at home today with Annie and I, lovely to have all of us together! We're doing well. I am soooo tired, actually will probably have a nap once I finish tapping away here..scan next Wednesday, so do keep everything crossed for me!

Suzanne, lovely to hear back from you. Dr Cook sounds lovely, I've not heard of him, but I've heard great things about the Wesley clinic, I'm sure you'll be happy there. We always had two embies put in, but then I know my doctor would also be happy to put one in, she left it up to us mostly. The RBH centre is supposed to be excellent, but I know it's fairly competitive to get in, they have a draw I think, so you have to be lucky!. I love the idea of the birthing centre though, I've had a friend who went through there and just loved it. Can understand not wanting to go through John Vesey if you went to school with his daughter, that would be a bit close to comfort for me too!!, shame though, he is really lovely.

Bella, so glad that your first appointment with the RN went well, great that you see the same one all the way through too!! Good luck!!!

Tiger my friend, how are you going??..top of 4 degress?????, YIKES!!!!

have a great weekend all

Hi Everyone,

BelB it sounds as if your pregnancy is coming along just perfectly. I agree that nausea & tiredness is a good sign. The baby is using your body to grow.

In regards to putting back one or two embryos - it is up to the individual - don't let the Dr make this decision for you. Our Dr is very against having two put back in women under 35, as he feels the risks associated with having twins is quite severe. I am however willing to accept the risk & we will try for two to be transferred (if we get any embryos at all!!!) He accepts our decision perfectly fine.

I start sniffing on Monday - YUCK! The sniffing is the worst part :x We are looking at EC around the middle of Feb.

Tiger - A scary story just for you.........
There is an old Rehabilitation facility that I used to work at. The building is new, but was built on the site of an old orphanage. Things were going along as usual, until they decided to do some building works on the land. As soon as the digging started, weird things started to happen. I had a door close then lock behind me, and then the lights went off. Lights that had been turned off in patient rooms, were coming back on (all of the patients had head injuiries and could not walk). One evening a nurse heard an old ladies voice singing "Hi, ho the dairy-oh" (we only had young patients on the ward). And someone else saw the figure of and old lady wearing a large black hat walking down the corridor. I am now freaking myself out just thinking about this place!!!!! Once the building works stopped, so did this strange activity!

I am off to the Australian Open tonight to watch the men's. I am home by myself at the moment & a little scared!!!!!!!!!

Scared Missmolly

Hiya,

Jomae, good luck for next Tuesday. Only 4 sleeps to go! You & DH will no doubt hear a lovely strong heatbeat/s(?). Take care.

Belinda, you have 5 more sleeps until Wednesday. Not too long to go - right?? Your baby is definitely growing inside your tummy, getting stronger day by day. O'course I have fingers crossed for you wherever I may be on the planet. Sounds like you had fab Friday with your family, Wonderful.

MissMolly, but you didn't see the lady yourself? scarey enough though....... I too am alone right now (hubby gone to bed)...I am bit spooked just thinking about the corridor!!! Sniffing is bad isn't it, but this phase will be over in no time, good luck!

Bella, I like the idea of having your personal nurse. I am with MIVF but they don't offer that service. I really hope that your BT will go well on Monday, and that your OHSS will behave this time around. Sometimes I feel like I am buggered because I suffer something else other than fertility thing as well, they are such an nuisance aren't they.

I am going away from tomorrow until next Saturday. Hopefully I will get some internet time but if I can't, I will catch you when I return home.

Cheers, Tiger

Hi everyone - Tiger - is there room in your hampster's cage for me? 4 sounds great - we are heading for 42 in Melbourne tomorrow and I am feeling lightly steamed at this stage!

Miss Molly - how was the tennis? Missed last nights coverage as there is a cricket fanatic in the house (when it is on overseas, he has the radio playing quietly under his pillow...), so watched Brett Lee as I dozed in front of the fan. Its great that you are starting sniffing on Monday - good luck!

Bel - tired, sick - all sounds like it is going well - pregnancy is a crazy time, where we use these indicators to see if all is well, when at any other time, we would be hauling ourselves to the dr to see why we felt so drained. Are you still breastfeeding Annie? There are 22 months between Declan and Grace and I didn't feed him for long after I fell pregnant, too tired and lots of 'morning' sickness, stopping feeding helped, but I am ure everyone is different. Fingers crossed for your scan on Wednesday, it sounds like everything is going fine.

Jo - not long to go now until all is revealed - I hope your a re feeling ok and look forward to your post next week with your news!

We are now on to weekly dr appointments, which is making things seem a bit imminent (but still surreal, if that is possible). Saw the dr on Wed, blood pressue has gone up again, now showing as borderline pre-eclamptic - apparenty saving grace is that I have not puffed up like a balloon - so I have to go to the hospital this afternoon and have my bp checked and have a CGT (?) - which apparently measures the baby's movements - still getting lots of kicks and rolls, so hopefully they are not too concerned.

My mother has weighed into the baby name 'debate' - luckily from interstate, so somewhat less persuasive than she would be if she were in Melbourne!

Hope everyone else is having a good weekend
