What I can make out is 3d scans are length, width and breadth which gives a still 3d image and 4d is length, width, breadth and time and this gives a moving image. Seen some short videos on the website and it is amazing you can see the baby sucking its thumb etc The best time for the scan is between 26 & 28 weeks, I will be 27 weeks and 4 days so hoping for a good view.
We do seem quite organised with baby stuff. I am classed as a high risk pregnancy and was told that I have to reach 31 weeks and then the first sign of a problem and they will get the baby out. I am being very closely monitored. Thankfully my bp is settled although I am taking 8 tablets a day for it!!! We didn't intend to buy stuff so early but we seem to get something everytime we go out. It is so exciting.
You should start soon, I can't believe how quickly John's wages disappear each month. It is a great feeling when things start coming together.

Wooooooooooooooow Toni, its a wondeful news A BOY and A GIRL. Its fantastic. It would be so thrilling for you. Did you decide the names?
Sophie, I am sorry you are suffering with the abdominal pain. When do you need to go to the Doctor? Most oftenly I am also suffering the pain only on the right side. For me they said it might be because of the scar tissue(as they removed the right tube, because of the ectopic) or the ligament stretching. Don't worry everything will be fine.
Lots of Love,

Hello all,
Well I did some research last night and I definitely think I have "Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction". I have all the symptoms and I can't believe the doctor and midwife have not mentioned this to me. So I've printed off all the info from the net and going to show my midwife tomorrow. Hopefully they will refer me to a physio.
Jackie, that scan really does sound fab. Where are you having this done, and how can I find out about one in Dorset/Hants area???
Jen, like you we haven't bought anything yet. I have looked at cots and a pram that I want (quite interested in Stokke), but as yet have not got the courage to get anything. Me and dp have decided that 30 weeks will be when we start to get organised.
Well baby Freya is kicking away so i'm going to lie on the couch and make the most of her (and of course try and get these essays done).
PS: Jen, 27 weeks is fantastic. I was only saying to dp last night that I have only 2 1/2 weeks to go before we are in the 3rd trimester.
We should wait until Toni is 25 weeks and then make a 3rd trimester thread (if you can stand to wait an extra four weeks?????)
What do the rest of you think .. are you alright to wait until the beginning of May before we start a 3rd trimester thread??????
All the best

Jen, I never thanked you for the information regarding getting more scans, so thanks for that. I can't beieve you are nearing the third semester now!-I count the days until the 28th week because I think I will just feel that much more relaxed. My baby boy moves around so much now, sometimes I get huge kicks that seem to hit me right in the cervix, BAM! which is uncomfortable and frighten ing! I think my baby is really testing his muscles at his poor mama's expense..
Toni-A big congratualtions on your twins being a boy and a girl! Oneof each is wonderful to begin with, I should say..
Jackie, it is nice to hear from you. You sound as if you are coping very well considering your continued discomforts. Obviously sleepless nights doesn't stop you form being incredibly organised. My hubby and I do not have a car yet ( I keep failing my driver's test-the last for the third time! I can drive perfectly fine but I get terrible test anxiety and always make one major mistake. Mind you, the practical tests now apparently ar eextremely difficult to pass) so being without a car makes shoppping difficult. We have booked ourselves for an appointment with a John Lewis advisor when we return from a short stay in Venice, Italy to pick out baby equip. from there. I feel very secure with John Lewis adn it seems that prices stay relatively the same no matter where you buy it, or do you think otherwise? I did buy some lovely white vests and sleepsuits, colored bibs, scratch mittens and tiny white socks. Adorable, can't wait to see the little boy in them.
Kim, Congratultions! I hope you and your hubby have a long period of wedded bliss... What a nice wedding present to share between you already.
Valli-Did you say you are suffering from stomach pains? It seems to be a fairly common complaint on this thread. I still get an achy, throbbing feeling of congestion in my lower abdomen, but it has tapered off a bit. The baby kicks so hard sometimes that I get some very mild crampping afterwards-Yes, I called the midwife! well, not mine, as she doesn't ever seem to be available when I ring! Was told that this is normal. Also, my visits with my mid-wife always feel so short and rushed. how do you all feel about your pregnancy expereince with the NHS so far? (those who use it?)
Valli, You wouldn't have this problem in the states as there aren't midwives.
I must say that I'm pretty unhappy with the NHS up here where I live-I always feel 'clocked' during my appts. Anyone else in the UK have this problem? Plus, Jackie alerted to me to the fact of antenatatl classes. I did get notice about classes of discussion about pregnancy early on but htey were not classified as antenatal classes, so I will ring my mid-wife as I haven't heard anything further. Again, I always feel like I have to chase information. Alot of complaints today..
I'm off to get packing-the break will do me good as I've had alot of stress at work lately.
Sophie-J - I will get me name on that list!! And I will wait patiently until May for our next thread.......too much going on here!!
That SPD did cross my mind when I thought about your pains.........it is definately worth mentioning.....my cousin has it at the moment and they gave her a girdle type thing which has helped a lot. Take it easy in the meantime!
Elizabeth - I am going privately as Herts NHS around the Watford area is frightening!! You don't even get a scan until 24 weeks!!
As for ante natal, my Consultant midwife organises some and also NCT (National Childbirth Trust) will do classes in your local area, you have to pay £130 for these but they are supposed to be really good.......also it gives you a chance to meet local people who are due around the same time as you........might be worth giving them a call.
Jackie - glad your b/p is behaving itself....it probably is behaving as it has not had to deal with IVF stress!!.....take it easy!
Elizabeth,
I asked my midwife about antenatal classes and she says she will send a letter out to me when I am about 28 - 30 weeks pg. I'm not sure whether these will be NCT ones or not.
I'm also going to look into aqua natal classes as this is also a way of meeting other expecting Mums.
I think that my nhs service has been pretty good so far, but I think that is because I have been an anxious pain in the arse.
I had 4 scans before I was 12 weeks then one at 14, 16 and 20 weeks.
I have called my midwife out twice at a weekend and seen her in surgery 3 times. My doctor is scrummy as well (it certainy helps when they are good looking, except I had to ask him to check out a large mole at the top of my bum the other day and that was rather embarrasing!!!).
Jen - glad to see you've added your name to the roll call list !!!!!
I really shouldn't be on this site again today ... I still haven't started the essay ...
Bye again and i hope i don't write again for the next 24 hours.

Elizabeth,
I have this pain in the lower abdomin on the right side. Even my right leg too. Its kind of pulling pain. I convinced myself it might be because of the scar tissue. I don't have a midwife here. I call the Doctors office whenever I have a problem, mostly nurse will answer those questions. If it is severe, I think she consults the Doctor and will get back to me.
Have any of you girls started Lamaze classes ? I need to find out this time when I go to the Doctors visit which is on this thursday.
I'll add myself to the duedates thread.
Sophie, as you said we'll wait until Toni is 25weeks to start the 3rd trimester thread. I cann't beleive I am 22 weeks now. It sounds amazing to me. Its like recently I started the treatment, but now I am halfway to hold my daughter in my hands.

I am having my 4d scan in Knowle, Birmingham. If you are interested in a scan it would probably be best to mention it to your midwife /hospital they should be able to tell you where your local unit is. We are paying £190 for ours so that should be a guide to costs. If this fails try doing a search on the internet, I did a quick search and found some info, but I am crap at geography and didn't know where any units were located!!
Sorry I haven't been much help, hope you can find somewhere.

just a quickie - about these 4d scans. They are fab! I have a friend who had one done, and the pictures were so good - you could even tell the sex and everything!!! So much better than regular scans. in my poinion well worth the money, as a momento - after all, how many of us ever had a huge guarantee of getting this far? Its so good that we are and why shouldnt we celebrate??!
Unfortunately, Geoff and I have decided against having one done as we have to buy 2 of everything and the money could be better spent on a cot or pram or something...........if we could afford it it would be brilliant - but money is becoming a bit tight now...........................
Anyway - must go lie down - my back is killing me!
take care girls - will write more soon..............
love always

Hello,
The 4D ultrasounds are fantastic. My office here in Denver offers them, so I had to show my MIL how great the images turn out. I searched on line for a website that had some examples, and found that GE is a major producer of this technology. Their website has a search engine that will locate the closest office that has their 4D equipment. Unfortunately I think you can only search the US, Canada & Mexico. But maybe you could email them for locations in the UK. And in case you're wondering ... no I do not work for GE =) Their website is:
Unfortunately DH and I have decided not to do one since I required quite a few scans earlier on due to bleeding. If we didn't already spend a fortune on scans, I'd definitely go for it. It's deifnitely worth the $ since the photos are so fab.
PS--- CONGRATS Toni on your recent news. A boy and girl ... it doesn't get much better than that!

Valli,
Don't worry about your pains. They sound quite similar to mine. On my right side low down in my groin. Have a look at information on the net on SPD. But also you must let your doctor know as it might be a urine infection as this is what they thought mine was at first.
When I explained my pains to the doctor / midwife they knew instantly that it was nothing to do with the baby and that baby was fine.
Jackie - thanks for info on 4d scans.

Has taken a while to catch up with your postings on the site but have just about managed.
Jen and Sophie - Sorry to hear about your panics recently - between you you've had enough panics to cover all of us !! Sophie - I hope you get some decent information and advice about your pain it sounds pretty severe.
Toni - A big huge congratulations to you and Geoff - a boy and a girl that's fantastic !!
Valli - Hope you and your little girl are both OK and it is amazing to think that you are half way there to holding her in your arms. Also like Sophie said these pains we're all experiencing seem to be part and parcel of being pregnant.
Jackie - The 4-D scan looks amazing ( I saw one on a TV programme last week. ) I'm really excited for you please let us know how you get on.
Elizabeth - Hello to you and your little boy - hope you're both doing OK.
Kappy - A quick hello to you too - Hope you're OK
Sorry if I've forgotten anyone but my lunch break is now over so I'm rushing to finish.
Hi girls,
Went to the Doctor for the 6th month visit. Ob/Gyn said everything is fine. I asked her about the pain on the right side, she tells its just normal. She measured the tummy. Its too exciting as the time passing by. Next month I need to go for glucose tolerance test. My parents both are diabetic. I am more likely get diabetes. It worries little bit. But its ok.
Sophie and Jen how are you feeling now?
Kim, did you find who's the baby is? girl or boy?

Just a quick note to say don't worry about the glucose tolerance test, I had it today and it isn't anything to worry about. They take blood and do a BM stick, then give you 500ml of lucozade which you have to drink very quickly. Then you are put in a waiting area and are not supposed to move around. After 2 hours they repeat the bloodtest and BM stick and you can go home. I did have to fast for 12 hours and only drink a small amount of tap water, but you probably do that anyway when they test your blood for glucose (I am tested often because my mum, grandparents on both sides, aunts, uncles and cousins all have /had diabetes).
Good luck
Jackie
