Uhhhh, dealing with a sick baby here. Ellie came down with a yucky cough yesterday. I'm guessing that's why she was fighting sleep. She ended up sleeping through her last feed last night and was up at 2:00 am this morning. I fed her a few ounces and then she lost interest. And she had no intention of falling back asleep! I was in a real pickle, then, because if I had laid her down in her crib, she would have screamed, and then I would have had TWO screaming babies. What to do? I tried to rock her for a while to no avail. So, I finally brought her to bed with me and she fell right asleep. Now, it's our normal wake time, and they're both sound asleep. I have a feeling today will be interesting!

Di, mine manage that wiggle thing too! On their backs or their bellies, they want to see everything, so they manage to kindof "spin". Lilke right now, they're both about 90 degrees from where they started last night....I'm glad Bronte is giggling for you. That's so much fun! Yours have a great nap routine! Mine usually do not fight sleep, but their naps are shorter and more frequent. Some naps can last about an hour or so. Others are only 45 minutes. I've read that they should start consolidating these naps soon. I hope so! I'd love to have a longer chunk of time to get things done. But, I won't complain, as they go to sleep fairly easily.

Oh, our dog thinks the babies are hairless puppies....he can't wait to play with them! They usually ignore him, but from time to time, they will smile at him. It's pretty cute when they do that.

Have a good one gals!

Hey girls,
My first beta was 9dp5dt and my 2nd beta was 12dp5dt. I seriously need ya'll to think back to when you were just 5 weeks pregnant.....I am so bloated right now and I'm scared!!! Ladies, I'm talking I look like I am 5 months pregnant! Did any of you look like this?! I only transferred 2 so at the most it could be twins. I'm reading all my pregnancy books and they keep talking about how you won't show for a long time and I look like my friends do when they are 5 months pregnant! Could this be caused from the progesterone shots? Any advice would be great!

faithandhope--just chalk it up to IVF, girl. I got very bloated early on, and I was also doing progestrone supplements. But, once I was off the supplements, things settled down. Good luck, we can't wait to hear the official news!

Good evening everyone! The babies are trying to go down for the night as I write this so we'll see how far I get. . .they are crying as I write.

Faithandhope~ I agree with Kim. Chalk it up to IVF. That wasn't a problem that I had but I hear it on this board all the time. I had the "No symptom at all" worry. In time it should go down so you may have to wait it out. Good luck and I can't wait to hear how many.

Kim~ What a bummer that Ellie isn't at the top of her game. I hope your day went off semi normal and not too crazy. You are still so lucky that the babies fall asleep easily. I have already been in the room once to comfort them and they seem to be going for broke! They are "topped off w/ food" and had a warm bath all while being cuddled and loved but they still insist on crying nonstop! AHGHGHG!
It's so funny to hear people compare their dogs and the babies. Our dog LOVES them. Almost too much. The other night she went into their room at midnight and decided to wake them up to play. It would have been sweet if it wasn't for the fact that she did it two more times that night! I could have killed her but what can you do? She just loves them.

Di~Thanks for letting me know that I am not alone here! We are basically doing the same thing but our little ones don't like to be swaddled. So we simply put them down and keep going in randomly to calm them back down or just pat them and kiss them. It''s so hard to have happy days when every nap time is such a struggle. I hope this phase ends sooner than later. Annelise has a cry that should be in movies. It's so girly and dramatic. It could make anyone cry right along with her.
Sounds like your babies are at a very sweet stage. I can't wait for the laughing and cooing. Seems like the other day we were all still pregnant. Where does the time go???

I better run. . . I've still got one unhappy baby and I need to go comfort her. . again. :( Bythe time they both get to sleep it's time to get back up again.

Have a great night everyone!

Have to vent. . . Annelise has been up for 6 hours straight! She will not take a nap and has been determined to be up until the next feeding every time. She hasn't been crying the entire time or anything but she will not nap. Now, in 20 I will get them both out of bed and bathe them, feed them and read a book on the way to bed and hopefully she will be unable to fight it any longer. What to do???? Right now she is miserable and I hope it won't continue all night. How can someone so small stay awake for so long???????

Hi Kimberley

((((HUGS)))) to you. We used to wonder the same thing. It seemed our babies would go to sleep only after total exhaustion from staying awake for hours!

On a positive note - it does get better. They will improve and they will sleep better and cry less.

Kim - Our babies did have little naps often like your babies but have only started taking the longer sleep and shorter sleep in the last few weeks. So much better to get things done! Hope Ellie is feeling better.

Faithandhope - I think twins are on the cards for you :)

Malinka - you must be getting very close - how is your nursery coming along?

Us - well so much for me thinking the twins like childcare - NOT. I dropped them off on Monday usual time. They are still recovering from their viral infections but really just a cough and a little irritablity. If I thought they were too sick I would not have sent them and had kept them home the week before. Anyway, I got a phone call at around 2pm from the childcare to say that it might be best if I pick them up. They could not settle Bronte who apparently was screaming the place down and not taking her bottle. Harry was crying too but took his bottle. On the drive in, I thought that maybe I had miscalulated and that they were too sick to have gone to childcare. Well, I picked them up and Harry had a screaming session because I had to wake him up to put him in the car. I got them home made them 100mls of bottle which they both guzzled down! They had another feed 2.5 hours later which exceeded their normal amount obviously catching up with their normal intake. They were OK with me no hassles at all! SO, I think the crying caused the coughing not the coughing causing the crying. What to do? I can't believe the babies put on such a turn because they did not want to be there! Both babies settle best for me and I do spend lots of time with them so probably very different from childcare. My DH says they have to go and it is true, I can't study with them home! I am going to have a hard time taking them this Friday  The girls at childcare seem nice so I am not concerned about that. Any suggestions as to what to do?

Cheers to all

OMG, Kimberly, I'm SOOOO SORRY! I can't imagine! At least she didn't scream the whole time, right? I think Di might be your best advisor here. Have you asked your ped? Maybe s/he would have some advise? Geez, I hope it gets better for you soon.

Di, that stinks about the daycare situation. Mine go to a sitter twice a week also, but it's in a private home. I don't think mine like it as well, either, because neither one of them seems to eat very well when they're at her house. BUT, they only have to do one feeding there, so it's usually something easy to make up. I think your DH is right though. It's somehting they're just going to have to get used to. You might find after a week or so, that they settle down a bit. Are you sending them with some favorite toys? Or, maybe something that smells like you? Just an idea. GOOD LUCK!!!

AS for us, Ellie is the pits right now. Her cough is really loose and mucousy, so she's always gagging and then throwin up all that mucous. So, this makes feeding time HORRIBLE....ugh! My poor dad was over yesterday babysitting while I was at work and got completely drenched with milk! The kids were supposed to go to the sitters today, but I decided to stay home with them. I think this is a case for mommy to deal with. (Plus, I'm sure the other moms would NOT appreciate me sending a coughing gagging puking baby, huh?) Well, I hope this passes soon.

Here's to a better day for all of us!

Hi all

Kimberley - I forgot to mention that we also had our two to the Ped a few times during the sleepless unsettled stage to make sure that nothing was wrong mainly with Harry as he was so unsettled. The doc said that some babies are like that, especially boys......

Kimberley - Harry is the same as Ellie with the mucousy coughing. He spits up milk and mucous since he has been sick. He was awake at 4pm this morning coughing and sounded so rattly - poor little man. I am meant to take the babies to my twin club coffee morning tomorrow but my DH says may be not this time as we don't want the babies exposed to anything else - I totally agree... If Harry and Bronte are not better by next Tuesday they will be back to the doctors for a checkup as they should have gotten over the virus by them apparently. They are both off their bottles as well. Harry took 750mls yesterday and Bronte 700ml not their normal amount. I am going to get them weighed next week to make sure they are not loosing weight  I can't wait until all is well with them again.

Faithandhope - fingers crossed all goes well with your scan on Thursday and I agree you may be joining us here on the twin thread - hopefully there are no more than two for you

Cheers All

Hi gals....

AHHHHHHHHH    Most of our day went pretty well, until our afternoon naptime. We've had the windows open today since it was so nice out. Didn't expect my neighbor to come home early from work and start using his tablesaw....NIGHTMARE! Both babies woke up screaming, and nothing I could do would settle them down. So, naptime consisted of about 20 minutes! Then, they screamed all through their bottles, which made Ellie barf even more. I just thought I'd lose my mind! I finally got them settled back down for a nap, but then 30 minutes later Braeden decided he'd slept enough (yeah, right!). Luckily, I managed to get him in the swing fast enough, and he settled back to sleep without a terror of tears. Whew! Boy, I have learned today, that if my babies get overtired, they are miserable! And so is mommy......I can't wait to go back to work tomorroW. How horrible is that? :? Luckily, grandpa will be babysitting, so everything will be just fine. (They're always perfect for grandpa....little stinkers! )

Have a good night! Kimberly, I'm praying they sleep for you!

Hey everyone!

Last night actually went a little better. Bodie started off with 4.5 hours straight and Annelise did 5.5. PHEW! Then it was back to every 2 hours. At least they were able to get some rest and it seems to have really helped them today. They took a 4.5 hour morning nap as well after they were up for about 1.5 hours. Seems they are playing catch up now. Today they haven't ate very vigorously but I'm sure they will make up for it this evening. If they don't I will give them a dash of formula to get some extra calories in. They go to the Ped. Monday and I can't wait to here what they weigh. Thanks so much for all the advice everyone. We love it and it always helps to know we aren't alone when we have our struggles.

Di and Kim~ I feel so bad that the babes are feeling so icky. I can't imagine eating out of a bottle w/o being able to breathe. It must really make them frustrated. Hope they are both better real soon.

Faithand hope~ I wonder how many???? My money is on twins for sure! I coudn't imagine triplets after the last couple of weeks. PHEW! Countin' down the days!

WE are heading to the coast this weekend with the babies. Wish me luck! Hopefully the car ride will keep them good and sleepy. They have been so cute lately with their big gassy grins and their funny expressions. I can't wait to show them off to all our friends. Not to mention they will all want to hold them and help so it will be some well needed hands free fun for me. Can we say wine????

Good luck with getting your babies back to healthy and have great nights everyone!
Take care~
