Becca-I'm glad I was able to answer your question. Just be prepared for the comment that vaginal progesterone works just as well as the injection. And the studies do in fact support that. In this case it was at my request because I just felt safer that we could actualy monitor the progesterone level with blood work. My RE told me the same thing about the study but agreed that we should do whatever made me feel more comfortable about this cycle. He said that it couldn't hurt. He obviously didn't mean that it couldn't hurt my butt. But it's a very small price to pay for peace of mind.

We, just curious, is there a benefit to doing the PIO injections as opposed to the suppositories?

Becca, I did the suppositories last cycle and I got my period prior to my beta. My RE told me that the progesterone should be enough to support your lining regardless of whether you are pregnant or not. Consequently I switched to PIO this cycle. It kind of sucks but I'm getting used to it. I don't think that is why i had a BFN but better safe than sorry.

By the way, I of course POAS again this evening. I did not have anymore of the First Response HPT's so I used one of Dollar Store tests I bought earlier this week. Those had come back negative the last two days even with the First Response ones showing a positive. Well, tonight the Dollar Store HPT is positive.

Wow that number is increasing quickly. FYI i found a site that sells tests sensitive to 10ng in urine online and the tests are only a dollar a piece. I ordered five for my cycle and got a positive way earlier than I ever had with the dollar store ones.

Hi everybody, I think that luck is really with this board at the moment, I tested this morning with a HPT and got a BFP I have to go into my clinic in two weeks for an US - we are really happy but still so nervous so we will sleep better once we have the US. It just shows you that IVF can and does work

Hi WE, I did 3 tests this morning (all bfp) and the clinic said that there was no need to come in for a blood test that I am pregant and to come in for the 7 week scan on the 25th October. I dont really understand what a beta is !! Maybe they dont do it in Ireland or something ?

Just to comment on the PIO-- I was on the vaginal and also had a m/c so RE put me on PIO. I also get a little numbness and crazy itching. We-- if you are doing it towards your hip, you should be fine....

AFM-- took my last BCP last night and now the AF dances begins! I'm thinking it will take 6 days becasue I did not have a full month of pills...so my guess is Tuesday, but anytime earlier would be great!

Toniaa-You sound like a POAS addict lie me. The Beta blood test is to measure your Hcg levels. Hcg is the pregnancy hormone. I've heard of this sort of thing from others on this board that dont live in the states but if it were me I would have them do it anyways, since you have the appointment. Just to be certain that you have a good strong number. Here in the states, Betas are typically done on 10 to 12 days post transfer depending if it was a 3 or 5 day embryo that was transferred. Then if positive, it is repeated every 2 to 3 days and the doctor want to see the number double every 48-72 hours then u/s. Hope this helps. Let us know what you decide to do. Yay, your preggers!!!


Tuffy-thanks for the great info. I ran out of the more expensive tests and started with the dollar store test yesterday. Not my favorite because they are not as sensitive but they do they trick and they are much less expensive for me. I'm truly a POAS addict. I just want to see that line there everyday and I want to see it get darker. So I guess now I'm just going to start comparing the pink line on the dollar store HPT and pray it continues to get darker. Beta is on Monday

I got my updated calendar yesterday and it looks like we will be pushed off exactly one week…not so horrible, but I am totally ready to get this show started and have a new chance! My new projected start date for stims (assuming my baseline is good) is 10/24. On Monday morning I am going in to repeat a bunch of old bloodwork that I had done in the past so that it is current and at that time I should also get my prescriptions so I can stock up on meds.

WeHaveHope - I have no experience with PIO, only supps. Your tests are just getting stronger and stronger! I am so excited for your first beta - I really think that you are going to have an amazing number and a successful pregnancy from this cycle

Leora - I hope you got everything figured out with arranging the monitoring and the clinic visit. I hate the logistics of working out exactly when to go in with the weekend and all…it can be such a headache and they are usually so nonchalant about it. So sorry about the UTI Feel better!

Sunshine - Good luck with the thyroid results and your upcoming appointment. I hope all goes well and that you will be one step closer to success! Lots of hugs to you…I know the family stuff can be so difficult, especially with lots of babies and young children around. I love spending time with my little nieces and nephews, they are such awesome little people, but I can't help but also think about my imaginary (for lack of a better word) children who are not yet among them, especially the baby I miscarried.

Anyway I'm off to ChopShop to get my hair done before heading into work...Dh said to me this morning maybe I'll come home as a red head? lol you know what they say about red heads! Anyway I thought about getting the "drapes" to match the carpet but that would be no fun...Speaking of carpet dh loves to shave me but I absolutely could never have a bikini wax that sounds too painful down there. idk how I got on this topic, oh the hair that's right! Leora- Yes! I couldn’t believe it myself, all those applicants! That really means something but if I don’t get that job it won’t mean a thing! So tomorrow morning is my interview and I am cool and ready. ...My DH is a Lecturer and soon to be Assistant Professor (hopefully next month! ) at the University of Nicosia. He is a Sociologist. He teaches BA, MBA classes and also Professional Studies classes. He is really over his head with studying and preparing for his classes, especially now that the semester has started. The good thing is that he has free time and if he is not at the office he steals time to do stuff with me. I call him my personal Doctor ...of Philosophy! ...hey! sorry about the infection and hope you feel better already!

AFM- My AF arrived this morning! YAY!!!! ...I made DH a buffet breakfast and he was pleasantly surprised to find it coming home from his morning jogging ....and then I told him that we need to decide if we are going with the Natural IVF Cycle this month or not. I told him that if we are doing it then I will need to know asap so that I make an appt with the OB for next Wednesday for the first u/s and b/w. I told him he has until tomorrow to give an answer. So, he goes “...so that’s why the big breakfast!... ” and he laughed. So, I have a good feeling about this. I explained him again that there is a lot of luck involved in natural IVF cycle. We may not get an egg; it may ovulate before we can collect it; it may not fertilise or develop into an embryo; there is still no more than a one-in-10 chance of pregnancy. But it can happen! It happens all the time in the medical world so why not happen to us too! My OB told me that one in 3 attempts complete all the steps of the procedure. From the egg maturation to ER to fertilization to ET...so we could try this for 3 months in a row and it can even happen from the 1st month!

Okay! I was a bit over optimistic here but I needed to sell the idea to DH!! You do get me right?! Thing is I know that we didn’t have much luck through our journey , SO FAR but I truly believe that things are going to change for us! I truly do girls! I no more want to look at the past failures and just thing of this natural cycle as my 1st attempt to have a baby.

Between us, I have already called my clinic and made an appt with my OB for the 1st u/s and b/w for this cycle So, my OB told me on my previous appt that If I wanted to move on with the Natural cycle I should make an appt on CD7 or CD8. So, they told me that he had surgeries all day on CD7 so my appt is on CD8 which is next Thursday 13th Oct at 11:30am. And if all goes well, around the 20th I am going to have the ER. I am SO excited! I am praying that everything goes well and who knows, we might even get that precious BFP this time! I mean, hey!, with all those BFP’s here on our board, I have a pretty good chance of getting one! Please pray with me!

Oh! my!! suddenly things are moving SO fast!!!

Tess69: I am excited that you are going to consult a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner as well. We could exchange our experience. I found a local practitioner on the internet and made an appointment to see what she could do with me next week. Very exciting!

Leorira: Nice that you still remember me. I read the story about your twins and felt very sorry for you. You are a brave girl. I cannot imagine what I would be if I am in your shoes. It indeed sucks that we are still here and I totally agree with your “but” Congratulations on your new job. I am now officially unemployed and should seriously looking for a job.

Anto: I like your attitudes!

AFM: Everything is set: I bought a mix of Q10 and other vitamins (Zn, Se, vitC, vitA & vitE) supplement for a month. On the label, it says for the old and for heart patients. I told DH the pills were to keep me younger and ask him to take too. I also signed in for aerobic and yoga courses. I prepared herb drink my mother gave me to improve my fertility yesterday. I have to continue drinking for 7 days. Don’t know whether it would work but I am now in the mood of trying anything.

Tuffy and Akdelp - Not too sure if I said Congrats to you guys as well.

Anton - I am praying that DH is on board with the natural cycle. I really think that may be the key for you to get your BFP. Sounds like DH may not give you too much of a hard time. I am always praying for you.

Leora - How is work going I saw Aida last night and LOVED it. By far one of my favorite operas now. I thought of you throughout the production.

Tonia - Congrats on the BFP!!!! My first clinic did not do betas if you had a BFP on an HPT. Just relax until the u/s.

I briefly saw where someone asked about Progesterone. My RE has me on vaginal Crinone, but I took PIO with my first cycle. My last cycle that was a BFN I was on the Prometrium vaginal suppositories. I had tons of PIO at home so I asked my RE if it was OK for me to do that AND the Crinone and he said it was fine. I do the PIO every other day and the Crinone twice a day. I prefer the Crinone over the vaginal suppositories because it is a gel that adhears to the vaginal wall and slowly releases Progesterone right at the cervix. The other good thing about the Crinone is that is has a nice long applicator that ensures that it gets where it needs to be. The bad thing about the Crinone is that it can be a bit messy. Although the PIO is a pain in the ass (literally), it does give me a peace of mind.

AFM - Well no more betas. My OB ultrasound has been scheduled for 10/20. I may just keep POAS here and there because I just love to see the positive HPT So I remain in constant prayer mode until I heard my little one's heartbeat. As always you all are in my prayers.
