I got 14 eggs retrieved today. Didn't make it this far last time, because I ovulated through Lupron.
So is 14 a lot? I need advice. I also always thought it's not quantity, it's quality that counts.. Tomorrow we find out how many are grade A, B, C, and how many fertilized well.
Any thoughts?

14 eggs is great!! We ended up with 13 eggs, but one was not mature enough, so we had 12. 10 of them fertilized and they put two back in, one was an 8-cell, Grade A and the other was an 8-cell, grade A-/B. I am now 6 1/2 weeks pregnant!! Good luck!!! Sounds like you are off to a great start!!

I have a question. When stimming with Follistim for IUI...I remember the doc saying I had 11 eggs ...which only 4 were mature when I was given the HCG. Can I assume that it will be similar for IVF, too? All 3 of my IUI cycles were similar. Or does the Lupron/Ganirlix make a difference in the amount of eggs and mature eggs? Or does the doc usually require a higher follistim amount for IVF, thus getting more eggs? Thanks

Tammy - Congrats on making the jump to IVF! It can be pretty different from the IUI's in that with the IUI's, they are trying to be careful how many eggs you grow. They don't want a bunch of them large enough to ovulate, but with IVF, they want as many as possible because when they go in for the retrieval, they are going to take as many of them as possible that are mature. I think chances are that you will grow possibly a few more eggs than what you did with your IUI's, but certainly more mature ones. They want to see somewhere in the range of 5-12 mature eggs I believe, although every woman varies on how many they produce. Age of course plays a big factor. However, if they can get approx. 9-10 mature eggs from you, you should be in great shape!! With the IUI's, once I had over 2-3 that were mature, they stopped the meds (to prevent too many from growing large enough to ovulate) so I never knew how many I could produce for sure until I started IVF.
Anyway, good luck!!
