Hi di

I need some advice to give to a very special friend, another IVF lady who I met on this site, but she is in between tmts and is not allowed to log on because it upsets her too much.

She has had 4 failed attempts, 2 fresh ICSIs and 2 FETs and is changing clinics and going to CARE in Sheffield. I was telling her about you and how you travelled from Scotland to go to CARE in Nottingham and how they did new tests before you started this last tmt and low and behold look what happened!!!

What tests did CARE do? She has had every test under the sun, chromosome testing, she's asked about NKC testing, alsorts, but if there is something that Nottingham suggested, she would like to ask at Sheffield too.

If you can think of any advice to give to her, I'd really appreciate it. She's really special (and like the rest of us!) really really deserves to get pg and I want to do everything I can to help her.

Thanks.
love nikola.xxx

ps how are you doing??
Hi Nikola,
Good to hear from you - and great news on your scan! Twins wow!!! Hope you are feeling ok! HAVE YOU GOT YOUR TRAVEL BANDS ON? I never take mine off ( except for a shower of course!)
Haven't been on the pc for a few days so there's a bit of catching up to do! Had a spot of blood on panty liner on Monday and was in bit of a panic - but nothing since thankfully and have been reassured by GP!
As for the tests I had - full blood count and U's and E's,
fasting free insulin level
serotonin level
APTT (Don't ask me what it stands for!!)
thyroid function test
thrombophilia screen
autoimmune screening
NK ASSAY
CHROMOSOME TESTING OF ME AND DH
(All the above are blood test!)
Also had endometrial biopsy ( in my lunch hour - not recommended!!)
and 3d ultrasound at a place called Proscan!
hope that is of use to your friend,
If you or she needs any more info just ask!
Di
hi di

thanks for this info I've passed it on to Helen. I've got my travel bands on but they are not working!!! They are really tight though and are more painful than the being sick! I have to take them off to make sure my circulation is still working!!! I've got bruises where the round bobble bit sticks in your arm - have I got the right things????

Today is the worst I've felt, I've been puking for England. I'm totally drained of energy and can't do a single thing. I can't eat, I can't even keep water down.

Feelign very sorry for myself and looking forward to this phase passing!!

I'm glad your scare was nothing more. They do say that you can have spotting throughout pregnancy so I'm glad it was nothing serious!!

When is your next scan? Mine is next Friday.

You take care,
love nikola.xx
Hi Nikola,
I've just had to take my wrist bands off as they are too painful - they've been insitu for a number of days though! So it does sound like you've got them on right! Its a pity they don't seem to working at all -mine def take the edge off the nausea and I'm not really sick when I've got them on.
Maybe you should phone your unit or midwife with being as sick as you are! Its not good if you're not able to keep anything down!
Hope you feel better soon.
I don't have a date for my next scan as we're not going back to Notts - managed to get my 4 weekly bloods done up here at GPs so am having to wait for app't at local hospital to come through! Feel like I really need another scan soon just to reassure me everything is ok!
Di
Hi di

These travel bands take your mind off the sickness by inflicting pain on your wrists! No wonder you've taken them off! Yesterday was the worst day for me, today I feel much better - not normal by any standards, just not in the bathroom all day. Maybe I just needed a big clear out...

I went to see my gp today and mentioned the severe sickness and she said that with twins its double the trouble on everything. Hence double the morning sickness of a singleton....She did tell me it will pass by the end of the year (roll on Christmas!) and then I will feel fantastic! Yeh right.

I know what you mean about needing another scan. I keep reading my books and seeing how much more development is going on inside and am desperate to have another look. also I need reassurance that I really am pregnant. I still find it hard to believe!

Thanks for all your info for Helen. She asked me if you could remember how much all these extra tests cost? Also what the hell are Us and Es - we thought they were illegal!! She has added them to her list for CARE and hopefully she'll get the same result as you!!

I've got my first ante natal clinic this afternoon - how exciting is that!! Have you been yet? Its all starting to seem a bit real now.

Thanks again for your help on the tests.

love nikola.xx
Hi Nikola,
Glad you are feeling abit better - I was getting worried you were going to dehydrate!!!
U's and E's are urea and electrolytes, and are things like :- sodium, potassium, chloride, urea, and creatinine levels in the blood!
The tests cost a fortune - I've not dared add up the full amount and as they were billed a seperate points I've left it like that, but would prob be in the region of £1000!!!!! Scary but well worth it!
Tell your friend; Helen to ask her GP how many they can do - the full blood count, U's and E's, HIV, Hep B, FASTING INSULIN and rubella should all be able to be done by GP practise, therefore saving abit of money!
I'm really troubled with heartburn at the mo - it was just on an evening and night but now seems to be starting in the afternoon! I've a bottle of Gaviscon with me permanently!!!
Been to see the midwife and now awaiting hosp app't but when I phoned about when app't will be I was told the consultant was on hol til 27th and that the referral letter was on his desk!! So I'll be phoning on the 27th - like the neurotic woman I'm rapidly becoming!!! Lol.
Di
