Hi Traci, I too am bored, bored, bored! (and I'm only on day 3 - day 4 if you count et!) If I bash my boobs about a bit I can convince myself that they hurt a bit(!), but doubtless if that's anything its the progesterone as I'm sure it would be too early to have any symptoms. Going back to work tomorrow which will take my mind off things - was sorely tempted to go back today but DH would kill me. I've not really told many people about this cycle either so there aren't people around who I can just call and meet for lunch. Grrr!

Alison xx

Hi Girls - keep it up, not long to go. I and loads of the other +++ girls were absolutely convinced AF was on her way - symptoms exactly the same.

There's so many of us hoping and praying for you cos you so deserve it to go right for you both. Just stop that boob-bashing Alison cos thats scary!! I must admit my boobs didnt feel any different in the the first few weeks anyway.

Keep thinking positive thoughts and rest rest rest.

Lots of Love - JO. XXXX

Hi everyone.
I'm due for my EC on Monday and ET on wednesday. I was just wondering how long people take off work. I know it will vary for everyone, but I am planning to go back to work next friday (i work weekends, so will be working through the w/e too) . I am quite emotional and a bit stroppy this week but thought going back to work sooner would take my mind off it next week, although i know i'll feel like laying at home.

Also, how have you all coped with taking time off every other day for the follicle tracking and other tests? I live an hour away from the clinic,so even for a quick visit for a scan i need 2-3 hours off. Everyone I work with has been fine and I felt that I had no option but to tell everyone what I was doing due to the fact that I did need time off and also didn't want to be working so many night shifts (shift worker, so find that quite stressful anyway) Now i wish that I hadn't told many people and could have just called in sick rather than everyone knowing why i'm off and trying not to mention it!

Any thoughts?

helen

Hi Girls,

just thought I would say hello, not many people seem to be chatting today!

Helen - I too will be having EC on Monday and ET on Wednesday I think, (I have my 2nd scan tommorrow to confirm) How many foolies did you get? This is my 2nd cycle of ICSI, first one failed In July this year. I have quite a stressful job and unlike some of the others on here did not find that my work helped take my mind off treatment, if anything it had the opposite effect. I decided that I would not take the chance that being stressed out in work could possibly affect the outcome of my treatment so I got signed off by my doctor not long after I started sniffing. My sick note covers mu until the end of the week of my 2WW. So I will know either way before I have to return to work. I have felt so much better knowing that I can relax at home and have not got to worry about going to work. The only problem is that I have been otrmenting myself watching all the baby programmes on Delivery Health channel!

It's nice to know there is going to be someone else testing at the same time. I had joined the OCB thread but had a delay in my treatment and am now miles behind everyone on there so if nobody minds I will be cheeky and join the NCBs as well!!

Loads of Love and Luck to everyone.

Love Julie xx

Hi Julie,

I also have my scan tomorrow (fri) and yesterday had 27 follicles. This is my first IVF attempt and I didn't think i was stressed about it at all, but now I just want to be warm and cosy at home and not bother with work!
Did your GP sign you off, or was it the consultant and if so was he happy to do so for stress reasons? Also, do the people you work with know why you are off?

helen

[Edited by helenlouise on 20-Nov-03 07:38]

I Own a Hair Salon and have told everyone as it helps with shifting Hair appointments and training the youngons!!! I am a dab hand at pretending Im ok so I get loads of support from clients and then when its bad news they are great and dont mention unless I bring it up, I take off the whole 2 weeks as it does get stressy there so its better if I stay away . I suppose all my clients I have known for years so they are more like friends , they have been through my divorce and all my trials and trivulations , they just come for the chat not the hair do!!!! But that is just me , alot of people dont tell anyone which I can imagine is alot better sometimes. Hope everyone is well.

Helen
Good luck for your scan tomorrow 27 you must be feeling that !! and EC on Monday.
Jules
best of luck for monday , I will only be on the 2ww for 2 days with you two girlies.

Trace x

Hi Helen,

Wow 27 follies, feel quite inadequate now, as of Monday I only had 9. What dose of fsh are you on? I'm on 225 of Menopur. I was on 150 last time and only got 6 eggs so they have increased the dosage this time round to try and get more.

I self certificated myself off work for 7 days then I just went to my GP and explained that I was having IVF treatment and that I was feeling really stressed out about it all and could not cope with having to go into work as well. I asked for a sick note for 4 wks to cover me till end of treatment and he obliged! As I had already told my employer that I was off with stress my GP just put that on my note as well. I have only told my close friends in work (and my manager) that I am having IVF. First time round pretty much everybody knew about it which made it much harder when I had to return to work and face everybody asking if i was alright all the time. So this time round not as many people know. I keep swinging between feeling really positive one minute and am convinced that it is going to work this time and the next minute am convinced it isn't, I guess it's just the old hormones playing up!

Can I ask a bit about your history? I am 32, dh is 45, having to go private as dh already has 2 kids from a previous marriage so don't qualify for NHS treatment. I have mild PCOS and dh has low count and poor motility hence the need for ICSI.

Look forward to speaking to you soon. Good luck with your scan tommorrow.

Love Jule xx

Hello fellow NCBs - hope you are all well.

Julie - I know exactyl what you mean about work and the stresses it can put you under. I work with children who are in care and have some terrible cases where they have had the most horrific experiences. At the moment I feel reall y quite stressed at work, I was always the one who worked extra hard, the one to put the hours in but since starting this journey my priorities have changed and I need to ensure that I feel well and able to do my cycle the best I can. I'm due to begin my scans for diui at the beginning of Dec and am currently deciding what to do about work - it's dificult to know isn't it?

Traci - I hope you're not getting too bored of daytime tv, won't be long now! :) ALsion how are you coping on your 2ww?

Wishing everyone all the best
love Lisa x

Hi,
I am 31 and my partner,Rob,is 33. We are having our first attempt at IVF.
Rob stored semen several years ago before undergoing chemo and radiotherapy for leukeamia. Thankfully he is now fully recovered, although will always be sterile. The NHS were not prepared to fund us so we went private and I am happy with the care I am getting in a small dedicated unit. We were advised by the consultant to go with IVF, rather than have a try with IUI, because he didn't think it was worth wasting any of the stored semen.
Everything looks good so far and I'm glad i've made so many follicles because I have elected to egg share to an anonymous recipient so it looks like we'll both be getting a good many chances. Mind you, my abdomen is very swollen(or is that just the crisps and chocs causing that!!) and I'm having pains similar to period pains which the nurse said was all the expansion going on. I feel very optimistic as the consultant has said we were a relatively straightforward case, however I also know the statistics so realise the odds are low.
We decided to have a try before xmas, so that if I'm not lucky this time at least I know what to expect next year. I started on 225(units?) Gonal-F on 11th Nov, and this was reduced to 150 units on Monday as the follicles were growing slightly too quickly. Tommorow the consultant will make a decision whether to definately go for monday and that looks likely.
BTW, do you discuss the clinics you all attend or not?

all the best to everyone
helen

[Edited by helenlouise on 20-Nov-03 10:27]

Hi

Just thought I'd leave a message of advice foe helenlouise. don't mean to alarm you but I noticed you already have 27 follies, which is quite a stash. have the clinic advised you to drink lots and lots of water (at least 3 litres a day?). You must do this to avoid ohss, plus a litre of milk if you can (for the protein), as judging from the size of the stomach and the pains you are getting you may be heading that way, but please don't worry as you can avoid it by really upping your fluid intake. you should aim to drink as much water as you can to bring that bloating down - I was up to 5 litres of water by ec (I got 31 eggs this time round and managed to avoid ohss but last time I had 27 eggs and got ohss quite badly, probably cos I didn't drink enough water then). Also, as you do have so many follies it is likely that you will be very tender down below for at least a week to 10 days after ec. I doubt very much if you are going to want to go back to work on the Friday, trust me!!! I was like you on my first cycle and thought I would just go back to work on the Monday after et on the Thursday. No such luck!! Luckily for you the pregnancy stats seem to be quite good for us girls who are prone to this symptom of creating so many follies, as I had a +ve this time round and Bel did too (plus Becky28 on the other side), but you do need to be careful to look after yourself. the water drinking needs to go right through et and 2ww and hopefully beyond!). hope this helps. beckym xxx

thanks, have been drinking quite a lot and milk too. Just been for my final scan this morning and all looks good. My womb lining is thick and I have about 27 follicles. I had a blood test and oestrogen was around 4900(?) which she said was good, because OHSS potential gives a blood reading of around 17000. -i think thats what she was saying, but i was getting undressed at the time!!
Having my injection saturday night at 9.45pm ready for egg collection on monday morning.
BTW, my clinic is BMI Chiltern, a small unit which has been great so far.
fingers crosed all round.
helen

Hi Louise
Just wanted to say a big thankyou for doing egg share, I am presently waiting for a donor egg and know people like you are very rare. I realise that giving up half your eggs isn't easy to do but believe me you will be in the prayers of the women who gets them for the rest of her life. It is a wonderful gift and you are very special. Best of wishes for E/C remember to drink the water!
take care,

Aly
x
