One twin is bigger then the other

Post by usmcwife14 »

Since I started getting my u/s baby B has always been a few days behind baby A, by 4 days. They both have good heartbeats baby A: 172 baby B: 159.And in recent weeks baby B has definetly been catching up. Should I be concerned about baby B being smaller? Has anyone ever had a twin a little behind?

My twins have always been different sizes. The girl is always a few days behind and the boy a few days a head. I think it's pretty common and you shouldn't be worried

Like cymplicity said, it's normal. I just had my 19 week u/s and Baby A is right on schedule and Baby B is a week behind. Both babies are healthy.

Are you guys going by the U/S dates or by when your transfer was? My babies on U/S are approx 4 days behind my transfer date. I think this is normal but I dont want them to get too far behind.

Thanks!

MedStudentMom, I'm going off of measurements the u/s tech gets at every u/s I've had (which has been many since I'm high risk). From reports I've seen they've compared it to my original due date which uses my transfer date. For instance my due date is Dec 17th and the girl measured for due date of Dec 19th, the Boy Dec 14th. Specifically at my last u/s the girl was 6 oz and the boy 7 oz. It has been pretty consistent all along and the girl hasn't been falling any further behind. I think as long as they stay within a week or so within your due date they consider you on schedule.

As long as the smaller one is catching up, or at least not falling further behind, you're fine.

If they get too far apart, the smaller one may resorb - disappear - as happened with us on both our successful cycles. It sounds like that's not what's happening to you, though.

Hi, I was slightly different as mine always measured similar in size, until about 32 weeks when they started measuring abdominal circumference as well. Suddenly they were very concerned with twin 1 being very small for age, monitoring continued and he was still small. I eventually had the babies at 38 weeks 2 days and twin 1 was 13oz lighter than twin 2 but only 1/2cm shorter. Now at a year old there is 3lb difference in them, but nothing wrong both perfectly healthy 1 year olds, walking everywhere.
I always say one takes after my family (small), one after DH's family (big). We are not all the same if the babies are non identical they will probably be a difference in size. relax and enjoy your pregnancy, it flies.
