I am a married mom of two children. My best friend is currently going through ivf with an egg donor. I feel that I have been nothing other than a supportive friend. We had a minor disagreement last weekend and now she has informed me that she would like to take a step back from our friendship. She seems to be extremely irrational. I know she has been going through a lot with all the drugs she is taking (injectibles). Am I best just to step back and let her contact me when she is ready or will trying to resolve things only make it worse. I have made the mistake of saying she is hormonal which is probably the wrong thing to say. Don't know how the best way is to proceed.
That is a hard one. I guess it depends on why she is irrational. Could it be something that happened that offended her that you weren’t aware of? If she is not willing to talk to you about it now, I would just let her know that you care about her and want to be there as a friend. Also, let her know you will be there when she is willing to talk things out.
In my experience, this IVF rollercoaster can take such an emotional toll on someone that some situations that wouldn’t normally bother us, all of a sudden become extremely irritating.
I think it is wonderful that you are trying so hard to be there for your friend. I wish you good luck!
