hi i just joined. i have had 2 failed fresh ivf cycles with icsi. lat one was november. we cant seem to get passed a 5 cell. my doc does not know if its egg or sperm. my question to you guys is, has anyone had a hard time getting passed the 5 cell, but then found a way. i am 32 hubby 34.
Thank you. i am planning on taking melatonin and a few other supplements for a month or so. i will cycle maybe in march. I never thought this would be so stressful, i fell like my heart is breaking inside. i hope someone can relate to this. i am sure that we couldnt be the first couple never to get passed a 5 cell. doc said he would lower my meds next time to a very low dose. i just feel hopeless.
Disney,
I would suggest you ask your doctor to review your embryology report with you to see what your egg quality was, if fragmentation occurred in cell division and I would also get information on the morphology of the sperm used during that cycle.
I have also had two failed cycles. My doctor has been able to give me some information regarding the quality of my eggs and my husband's sperm after each cycle. From my cycles my doctor has been able to identify that the quality of my eggs are not typical and we already knew that my husband had low morphology prior to starting IVF.
Have you had any genetic testing done?

I will be starting my medication ( shots/patches) on Tuesday and I need to know how my body will react to this? Any helpful hints I would be so thankful..... I really need someone who can understand and talk with me through this new journal of my life... maybe we can do this together??? I have no one here that knows what Im going through!!!! We have done that. the grade was 2B, with 5 to 10% fragmentaton. what is the genicit testing. thanks
Ask your doctor about having genetic testing done, it is usually just a series of blood tests. It will give you information if you or your spouse carry any genetic mutations that may be causing your embryos to stop developing at 5 cells.
good luck to you,

Hi - what is your FSH and AMH? You Dr. should be able to change your protocol to get different results. That is unless you have diminished ovarian reserve or some other issue producing eggs. Also have you done any testing on thyroid or insulin resistance. If one of these is out of balance that can also mess with egg quality. For your next cycle you could also put DH on vitamins so that if it is sperm issue, that could help. Most Dr. said that as long as the semen analysis are good then it is an egg issue. I don't know if I really trust that but guess you have to have some faith in the Dr.

THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY. MY FSH IS 0 AND MY AMH IS 1.2NG. DOC DID SAY DIMINISHED RESERVE. IT CANT BE THAT BAD THOUGH AS THESES NUMBER ARE STILL IN RANGE. IT MUST BE FOR MY AGE 32. MY HD HAS 99% ANTIBODIES, BUT WE DID ICSI, SO THAT FIXES THAT PROBLEM. HIS MORPHOLPGY IS LOW 4%, HIS MOTILITY IS GOOD 50 - 70%, AND HIS COUNT VARIES FROM 20MIL- 200MIL.
I HAVE HAD ALL THEM TEST DONE, AND IM IN RANGE. ITS BAFFELING WHY, ESP WHEN DOC DOSENT KNOW. I QUESS THAT IS WHY HE IS GOING TO LOWER DOSE. MY FIRST IVF I ONLY PRODUCED 3 EGGS, 2ND IVF 10. SO IF I GO ON A LOWER DOSE I CANT POSSIBLY GET ALOT. I THINK I WAS ON 150 IU - 225 IU FOR MY 1ST IVF.
I thought that I read somewhere that there is a point where the growing embryo has to start making using its own genes vs relying on the preloaded products that were already in the egg when it was fertilized. I could be wrong, but I believe our eggs are filled with proteins that were made by us and they use those proteins to get started and then when they are a couple cells old (maybe 5) they need to start making their own proteins. If there is some important protein missing at this stage then the embryo will not make it and will stop growing.
So perhaps you and your partner have some genetic issue with your embryos...so I think if you have had this happen with enough embryos it might be time to do testing on them. Only some clinics can perform the type of testing you would need, but its worth looking into...
Maybe i missed it, but how many embryos have you had total that stop growing at the 5 cell stage? And also, do they all make it to 5 cells and stop or just some?
