Ghost - DHEA for health benefits? (children mentioned)

Post by Mellie_1233 »

Hello Ghost! As you can see by my ticker I am fantastically blessed with beautiful babes after IVF. :D So, my question to you is not about getting pregnant, but about other benefits of DHEA for women like me who can expect to go through menopause earlier than normal.

At age 36 my AMH was 0.6 and at age 38 it was 0.7. My fsh was recently checked by my obgyn and is 15 (I am 39). Menopause is probably 5 years or so away for me but I am not looking forward to it! I just wondered if there might be some benefit to taking DHEA. If it can lower FSH does it do anything for estrogen? Could taking it help to delay some of the effects of low estrogen like abdominal fat, thinning of the skin, osteoporosis.....etc......? Is there any downside to taking it? I have never taken it before but have heard (I think on this board) that a clinic in NY is recommending it for patients with reserve issues.

Thank you!

First off, I don't know.

I imagine DHEA would increase E2 levels due to androgen conversion. Aromatase converts androgens to estrogens, so it seems reasonable that increasing the supply of androgens might cause an increase in estrogens, and perhaps moreso in heavier women. But I don't know, I'm just saying the speculation sounds reasonable to me.

Yes, there are side effects of DHEA, and they are similar to those of testosterone (some DHEA is converted to T). Basically, these include being more like a male, and can include facial hair, hair loss, increased libido, and increased aggression. There are more, I'm sure. I don't know about long term risks like cancer, etc.

Many clinics are using it for patients with diminished ovarian reserve. Colorado, for example. And yes, a couple of clinics in NY, most notably Gleicher's center, are using it. From the posts I have seen over the years, I think that usage is increasing.
Avoid IVF and surrogacy in Ukraine. Ukrainian centers pay shills to post here under numerous sock accounts pretending to be patients in Ukraine. Centers using such deceptive advertising cannot be trusted and should be avoided.

I hadn't thought of unknown, unstudied, long-term effects like cancer. Aggression? Hair loss? Maleness? Earlier menopause doesn't sound so bad after reading those side effects

Thanks, Ghost!
