NEED HELP ON IMPROVING EGG QUALITY AND RESPONSE TO MEDS!!

Post by mom4sure »

Hi

I really need help. I just had my cycle cancelled due to poor egg quality. We had many follicles but only got 2 eggs. Those 2 were not good enough for ICSI and couldnt be fertilised so my cycle was cancelled. My RE said i did not respond well to my meds, and on top of that my eggs were of poor quality. I was on 225iu Gonal F and 75iu Menopur and Cetrotide for the last 4 days before trigger. I triggered with Ovidrel. My lead follicles were around 21 before trigger.

I was on the bcp for 39 days and was supposed to to stims my stims after i get a full bleed. I didn't get a full bleed, only every light spotting. I told my RE this i but was told to go ahead with my stims anyway on Day 2 of my very light spotting. Could this have been the problem?

My RE has sent me for blood test to see if my egg quality can be improved with DHEA and if so i will take it for 3 months and try again end of July.

I would really appreciate any tips you have for me to increase my chances for success in July, please, This will be my last try and i really need to get it right. I need to improve my response and my egg egg quality. ANY ADVISE?!!

Thank you :) .

mom4sure - some clinics have protocols that are targeted specifically at improving poor egg quality. they use testosterone as part of the protocol among other tricks. where are you located? there are 2 good clinics in southern california that have very good success rates.
dhea i believe also contains testosterone - but i dont know much about it.

one other thing - 39 days seems like an awfully long time to be on bcp. i think that might have suppressed you too much. ask Ghost about that. Are US clinics an option for you? there are some in US that have very good success rates for 40 and older - CCRM in colorado is very famous and works with out of town patients. there is one in beverly hills that Margie on this board went to and came back pregnant with twins. i would research clinic stats - there is great variability in their success rates. here is a link for US clinics http://www.sart.org/find_frm.html - check out CCRM and the Beverly Hills one to start with.

I'm currently taking DHEA, coQ10, l-arginine, and wheat grass . . . RE wasn't so keen on royal jelly, so I stopped that . . . also doing weekly acupuncture . . . was advised to do all for at least 4 weeks, but 3+ months is optimal . . . also eating right (lots of whole foods, green leafy veggies, no sugar, limited carbs, etc.) . . . I am also taking a growth hormone (omnitrrope) during stims . . . hope it works =) good luck =)

LYD Thank you. I also thought 39 days was a really long time to be on bcp's. And my AF was really light. And i told them this, but told me to go ahead with meds anyway. I was confused because they had insisted on a full bleed before starting my injections. I hate to think that they did something wrong and are blaming it on my response to meds and my age being the cause of egg quality. I eat healthy, i exercise, so i am physically fit, i have been taking all my nutrients. So i was very surprised with the results.

I really wish i could go to the US. Unfortunately US hospitals are not on option for me because of the costs involved. In South Africa the cost of ivf starts from $5000 and the highest cost is $7000. The prices i see for US clinics is out the price range i can afford. And those are costs before i take into account travel, food and accomodation costs. So i have to stick to SA. I am seriously considering changing clinics with my next cycle.

Deftonesmo Thank you. I will start taking DHEA and i've heard about wheatgrass so i will add that on as well, thank you. Good luck with your cycle :) .

Thank you ladies for your help :D
