Hello, thanks to all of you for creating such an informative messageboard. We are moving to South London in a month or two, but would like to know where the IVF treatments take place for each borough first, before we move.
We've looked everywhere for this information with no luck. The boroughs we'd like to know about - what clinics they use, and what funding they provide are:
Bromley
Lambeth
Southwark
Sutton/Merton
Croydon
We'd be ever so grateful as this is driving us mad!
Hi Jass.....I can't help from personal experience as I'm being treated outside of the UK but I just did a google search for 'fertility clinics in south london, england' and a ton came up. Perhaps the most useful was www.hfea.gov.uk/Clinics/A-ZList which allows you to search by postcode.
I hope this helps and good luck with the move.
Debra.
Thanks for your help, but we have the HFEA book already but it doesn't mention which clinics serve which boroughs....why don't they give this information???
Righty ho...I like a challenge! I used their search funtion and searched for clinincs in London. 24 came up, with their addresses, so you can see roughly where they are. I saw SW1, SE1 x 2, SE5, SW5 and SW10 but also one just outside S.London in Croydon, Surry.
I hope this is a bit more helpful.
regards¨
Debra.
I am in Surrey and am under The East Surrey Health Authority. My nearest hospital which is Redhill don't do IVF so I was referred to Mayday hospital in Croydon/Thornton Heath. My health authority funded my first two tmt's and we had to pay for the 3rd. Croydon health authority don't fund all the IVF but do pay for the drugs. You have to pay for the services of the consultant etc and I believe it is aroung £1,950. We had to pay more as we had ICSI so that threw it up to £2,500!
If you use Mayday hospital the bulk of the treatment is there and then for embryo transfer you have to go to the Bridge Center in London Bridge. Youe eggs get collected at the Mayday and your DH has to take them up to London in a special box and he then does his bit ( ) and they then fertilise them there. It sounds a bit mad but I believe some other hospitals use this procedure.
I have a feeling Sutton may fund but I'm not sure. Have you contacted St Helier hospital?
Where in South London are you moving too? I hope you find all the answers you need. If there is anything else you need to know just ask. Good luck.
Love Dagny xkx

Hi Jass, welcome to the site. I am with South West London Health Authority (I live in Chessington so a bit further west than you mentioned). I checked out their website (www.swlsha.nhs.uk) and they cover Croydon and Sutton too. From memory I think they give you one free cycle in each financial year if you are under 40 but I may have got that slightly wrong. Anyway I have had 2 fully funded and one with free drugs so I have been one of the lucky ones in that respect. I have my tmt at Queen Mary's, Roehampton, and have always found them very helpful and understanding although sadly no +ve result (yet!). Like Dagny says, DH has to take the eggs up to the Bridge Centre and do his 'bit' up there while I wake up from EC as they are a Transport IVF centre ie they don't do the whole lot there.
Hope this helps a bit, good luck with your tmt
Lots of love
Kat xx
Lovely to see a post from you. I know you are not posting much at the mo but I just want to say 'Hi, how are you?' etc. Hope life is being kind to you and you are enjoying the good weather. Have you any plans to go away or have treatment soon? Take care buddy.
Do you think you and Alfie will split up? Sorry Kat, I know the joke is wearing a bit thin but I'm never the one to give up a good joke It's all Nikola's fault she started it.
Sorry Jass for jumping into your thread with a message for Kat

Thanks for all your help today - we are looking like its going to be Sutton where we'd like to move to but have heard they use both Mayday/Bridge OR St Helier/Kings.
If you go to Mayday which I would say is preferable to St Helier as St Helier is a bit grotty, I can recommend Mayday. Mr Booker is a GEM! He is so nice (I wonder if he is reading this ?) and has been so supportive to me with recent events. The fertility nurses Julie and Terry are really lovely and I have had the most spot on treatment from them.
I was brought up in Sutton and spent many a drunken night in Sutton high street I lived in Cheam for 25 odd years which is just down the road from Sutton.
Good luck with the move and finding the right hospital.

PS Traci - What have I done now???!!!

Now I'm hijacking this thread aswell...! Dagny, I went to school in Sutton - what about you?
Sorry Jass, this happens you know, one conversation leads to another... re St Helier, my Mum was there when she broke her hip and it wasn't too bad...don't know about IVF there though.
Lots of love

PS Dagny - see what you've done - got me posting again! Should do it more often....
