We missed out this time (our first go, ICSI). My wife and I are totally wrecked, not least because the clinic managed to take over 24 hours to get back with our blood test results: we had to keep ringing them up. Rest assured words will be had.
Are hugging and hoping for next time. Still, every cloud...my cousin's wife had their second last night, after years of trying and a couple of miscarriages.
I am very sorry to hear your news Sam. It is a tough ride but I hope you and your wife have the courage to get back on once you have recovered from this attempt. Take it easy and spend some quality time with your wife. Spoil yourselves.
Best wishes for future attempts.

DH 37, me 28 with Endometriosis
First attempt at IVF in May, now pregnant with twins. Fingers still crossed.
Sam and your wife - sorry you have missed out - do try again but take time out first and get some answers if you can. This may seem odd but sometimes it is the first that is the worst - after that you sort of know what's coming - apart from the result! It is a dreadful rollercoaster - we should know - we have had all the ups and downs but most people get sorted in the end and you have to be so so lucky for it to be first time lucky!
Take care

ttc 9 years. 38 yrs old, dh 8 hrs younger!First IVF in Aug 2002 and had ectopic.2nd IVF neg.3rd FET and negative.4th FET and positive but sadly lost our little boy at 20 weeks.5th FET and Alice Isobel and Emily Charlotte born 5th Aug 2004!
That's just totally inexcusable that your clinic kept you waiting so long for results. Clinics are expected to be sensitive when it comes to this issue and call people with results as soon as possible; generally within a few hours of the test. I would definitely speak with the person in charge there.
Anyway, I'm really sorry that it didn't work for you. Try to keep busy for a few days doing some fun things together that you haven't been able to do over the last few months. When I got my -tive last month, I just felt like crawling into bed and staying there but I forced myself out with DH and it really helped my state of mind. It seems like you already appreciate the fact that sometimes it takes people several tries before it works and like you are willing to give it another go when you're both ready. I read one statistic that IVF generally works for 80-85% of couples within 3 tries. At any rate, you have every reason to hope for success next time around.
I am so sorry to hear your sad news It is devastating getting a negative but like Tracey said the chances of it working 1st time are not that high. Look at it as a practice run. I had to and my team got the balance right so when I had my 3rd I got the positive only it didn't work out as you can see on my signature at the bottom. But......... the 2nd treatment is always a bit easier as you do know what to expect and you are a lot less stressed. Wishing you the best of luck when you decide to jump back in the saddle again.
My thoughts are with you both and I hope you get all your dreams come true in the near future.
