Hi Cath, sorry to hear your first two attempts were unsuccessful. There are many on this board with more than one try....but still we plough on!

What do you mean by "....what the treatment is like using frozen embryos"? Do you mean what happens during tmt or do you mean what are the odds?

There's a huge amount of experience and know-how so someone will know the answer!

Hi Cath,

I had a FET on March 25 after a failed fresh ICSI cycle in December. We are blessed with identical girls that are due on 12/15. My doctor transferred 4 embryos, two took and one split (identicals). Sadly we lost a triplet at around 8 weeks. I am now going into my 16th week.

The protocol for a FET is less invasive than a fresh cycle. I did have to take the Lupron injections, followed by estrace which increased in dosage as the days went on. A couple days before the FET I started my progesterone injections along with the estrace pills. I was very fortunate to have this be a positive cycle. The fresh cycle in December caused my estrogen levels to skyrocket after that HCG shot that released the eggs - therefore I was unable to hold that pregnancy due to the high estrogen levels. That is why the FET was better for me!

Good luck -
Denise

Cath

Like Denise - FET's do work and are great -I had natural FET's so no drugs - IVF one fresh was ectopic and 2 was fresh - negative. FET was negative then next FET was positive - sadly Oliver died at 20 wks unexpectedly. FET was then positive again and currently 33 wks pg with twin girls.

Good luck

Denise,

Your protocol for the FET sounds the same as the one my clinic will have me on. Did you experience side effects at all from the estrace (I like to be prepared!) ? I guess I already know what to expect from the Lupron and progesterone based on using them in the fresh cycle.

Thanks!

Hi Staci,

I did not have any side effects from the estrace pills during the frozen embryo transfer. I may have experienced a slight headache during the time I was taking the estrace 3xs a day, but it was nothing I even needed Tylenol for, and it may have only happened once. I felt great during the cycle and eventually learned how to give myself my own progesterone injection.

Good luck with you treatment. When is your FET?

Denise,

Thanks for the info. Makes me feel much better about things!! I've always had horrible side effects from most birth control pills so I got this idea in my head that taking estrace would be like triple dosing on bc pills. I'm one of those people who reads the common side effects of medications then expects to experience every single one! You can imagine what a basketcase I was going through the fresh IVF. Of course, nothing was half as bad as I expected it to be.

I can't believe you gave yourself your own progesterone injections. You are much braver than me! I only had the injections for 5 days on the fresh cycle (DH did them for me) then switched to pessaries. They said it was okay if I do the same this time around.

As far as when I'll be starting, I'm just waiting for AF to show up. I'm on Day 42 now so should be any day now. Then I have to start downregging on Day 21 and follow the same sort of protocol you did. Hope it works as well for me as it did for you (actually, I'd settle for half as well)!

Hi Staci and Denise

Is Tylenol the US version of our Paracetamol?? A general pain killer? I have always wondered that as have heard it mentioned in American films and now on here. Just being nosey

Dagny,

Tylenol is the most popular brand over here of the drug acetaminophen. It's also carried under other brand names like Panadol. Acetaminophen is the same thing you call paracetamol over there. I only know this because I was curious about what paracetamol was so looked it up!

Cheers Staci

We have Panadol here too. Can you take Tylenol during pregnancy like we can take Paracetamol?

Yes, they say it's safe during pregnancy. Unfortunately, my favorite painkiller is called Aleve (brand name) which has the active ingredient naproxen and that one is not considered safe during pregnancy plus they won't allow it during the IVF treatment. It's the only thing that's ever really worked for me.

Hi Staci -

You are just like me!! I always read the side effects then I become psychosomatic - My dh thinks I am nuts and told me to stop reading the labels! (I always read them anyway when he is not looking.)

The estrace label says may cause dizziness, lightheadedness, headache, stomach upset, bloating, nausea, weight changes...Honestly - these never happened to me, except for maybe a slight headache and not often!! You will be fine with this pill and especially if you made it through the Lupron, this will be a piece of cake. (The Lupron caused me night sweats and bad headaches.) I wish you the best of luck with this cycle!!!

As for the injections, after a month of having to wake my husband up, have him actually "wake up" get washed, etc. I decided to take on the task myself. (We own a restaurant/bar, my husband works nights, I teach, so I am up early, he is a sleeper. Therefore it was taking too long to have him to the shot for me.) After my doctor told me to continue the injections until May 31, I decided to finish up the last 8 weeks on my own. It really wasn't too bad - just propped up on pillows in front of a mirror - but that is great that you can do the pessaries.

Dagny - you are not being nosey!! We have different terms for a lot of things here in the US than you do in England. Actually it is pretty neat, and I learn from all of you there. Actually on one of the polls the question was about a "dishy consultant" honestly, I couldn't answer that poll cause I did not know what it meant. (I think the twins are taking away my brain cells - thank God it is summer so I am off from teaching!) Anyhow - it is all a learning experience from my point!

Have a great weekend everyone!!

Denise,

You are in the US as well? I didn't realize! Actually, as you know, "pessaries" are suppositories here in the U.S. I've spent so much time on here that I've sort of adopted the British terms for things (most of them sound better than ours anyway)!

What state do you live in? I'm in Florida (very hot out right now)!

Oh Denise

I am sure you have probably worked it out but just incase you haven't - Dishy means good looking or sexy.

I am suprised that dishy hasn't made it across the water yet. What would an American alternative word for dishy be?

Staci and Dagny,

Staci - I live in NJ on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean - across the river from NYC. Where are you in Florida??

Dagny - yes, thank you, I figured out what "dishy" meant a little later!! (After I read the options to respond to the poll, that clued me in.) Let's see, here in the US I have never heard the term "dishy" to mean good looking or sexy, but I will be the first to use that one here in NJ!! I guess we say they are "hot".

Have a great day - I am going to see my sister in law compete in a mini triathlon right now!
