I just had a crazy thought, but I don't have any idea how medical costs compare between France and England. I have been told I would have to pay 2000 euros for fibroid surgery including 4 days in the hospital.
But since everything closes down in France in August, I lose a month off my fertility. If the costs without insurance wouldn't be too much higher in England (maybe they are), what if I tried to get someone to do it there in August?
Can any of you folks in UK tell me what you think--i.e., about cost comparison and the ability to get scheduled for surgery asap?
Hi Emily - It's certainly worth looking into. I'm afraid I don't know how much this surgery would be, nor what the waiting list would be. What about e-mailing a couple of clinics to find out ?

Ok, thanks, Sandra. Having never been to England before, though, I presume I would be looking in London? Does anyone know of any good clinics there? Just for an idea of the cost differential, it would also help if anyone knows what an IVF costs in UK without insurance (in the US for example it is a whopping $17,000 with all drugs, etc, included; in France a bit under 3000€, I believe). If someone knew that, then I would have at least a semblance of an idea perhaps of whether surgery might be comparable there as well. But since most of you are probably covered there, perhaps you won't know the prices w/out insurance.
Anyway, if anyone has any more clues, send them my way.
Are you having your fibroids removed with a myomectomy or hysterosocply. If its the first ful surgery I was told it would be over £5000 to have done when i went in to have it done on the NHS. If its the latter i don't know as you are in and out in a day. I have had both.
Regarding IVF it dpends on where you have it done it can range from £2000 to £5000.
Just for your info, I am treated at a clinic just outside London and ICSI costs around £5,000 thereabouts including the drugs – with an extra £500 on top for the blastocyst process. Sounds like you’ll pay a lot less for treatment in Europe.
Jane, it's the myomectomy, so if it's £5000, that's like 7,000 in euros, which is going to be too much cause I've already been quoted 4000 euros to have it done here in France.
I had a myomectomy in April 2003 and the total cost was approx £5,000. The majority of this is made up of surgeon fees and accommodation costs - I had a 5 day stay in hospital. I suspect that coming to the UK is not the cheapest option for you.
Good luck
