PIO injections

Hi ladies!!! I have an appointment for my 9 wk scan a week from tomorrow. They told me at my last appointment that they would talk to me about stopping the PIO's. How long did you all have to take them and did you do it cold turkey or slowly and how long.

Hi Riley

I had to keep taking them until 11 weeks then just stopped. No one mentioned stopping gradually.

PIO is progesteron and oil shots, right? I had to do my shots through week 11 (reduced the # of shots over a 3 week period). Then I continued the progrestone suppositories through week 14.

Rileydee:

My RE decreased my dosage from 1cc every day to 1/2 cc every day at week 11. After 1 week of decreased dosage, I went off of the shots.

Hi I hope you don't mind me butting in on your thread. I have just noticed that we are exactly the same number of weeks and days pg! How are you feeling? Do you have lots of symptoms?I saw that you are going for a 9 week scan. My GP hasn't mentioned a scan at 9 weeks and says my next one should be at 12. It's driving me crazy ...all this waiting. This roller coaster never stops does it?!! I hope your scan goes well

I have been taking 600mg(I think they're mg!) of progesterone x3 each day. I have suppositories. They are awful

I don't know what will happen when I reach 12 weeks. The clinic said to just stop! This sounds a bit strange to me. After all the monitoring, blood work etc... to just stop medication with no blood test to make sure the levels are Ok. I am worried about this because my clinic is in Barcelona (we had donor egg tmt) and I am dealing with my GP here. Any advice (anyone?) I must say that I am looking forward to stopping them, they must have been invented by a man! So yuecky. Think I would prefer an injection!!!

My IVF dr instructed me to stop taking the shot all together at around 7 1/2 weeks. A day later I ended up in the ER with severe bleeding which I thought was a sign of miscarriage. The dr there said it was due to the fact that they didn't ween me off the drug and just told me to stop. They said if I had lowered the dosage until I was off it completely I wouldnt have had that scare. Babies are fine (twins) but I wish my dr would have given me better advise. Hope this was helpful!

Kabillion-Thanks for that info. I'm so glad your babies are doing well.

Anna- I have to take the suppositories too, but only once at night. I haven't really had many symptoms. I've been extremely tired. I get nauseous, but I don't throw up. I've thrown up twice, so I've been lucky, but it also makes me nervous, cause why am I not having any symptoms? We always gotta be worried about something eh? I can't wait to stop pressaries and injections. But, they are going to ween me off, so hopefully no scares. My tummy is a bit swollen. I hear you on the waiting for the scan. I'm so glad I don't have to wait as long as you. That probably didn't make you feel any better. What symptoms are you having? Good luck!!

Hi Rileydee - I was on 1 shot a day until bleeding started around week 8, then moved to 2 (sometimes up to 4) shots a day for the next week or so, then back down to 2 until week 10, then they switched me to oral in the morning and shot at night. at 11 weeks I switched to 2 oral a day.

At first the oral made me nauseous, even with food, but now I can tolerate it fine. It's so nice not being a human pin cushion any more!!!

Hi Rileydee, how are you feeling. 9 weeks tomorrow! I am so envious that you are having a scan. Hope it goes well.

Have your symptoms changed at all? I feel fine, a bit tired, boobs a tiny bit sore now and again, but that's it. I went to the drs to get some more progesterone suppositories(yuk) and I said that I was worried about my lack of symptoms. She reassurred me that all was Ok. Took my blood pressure and asked me which hospital I wanted to have my baby in!

My clinic in Barcelona says to just stop the progesterone at 12 weeks but I need to talk this through with my gp. Common sense would prevail in weaning off it. But I suppose they are the professionals and they know what they are doing?

I am a teacher and have to go back to work tomorrow so no more lie ins and afternoon naps for me!!
