About to start ICSI cycle - anyone else?

Post by Becky28 »

Am finally about to get going - AF is here after Norethisterone did the trick, and starting injecting Buserelin tomorrow morning! First down-reg scan is on Tues 8 July.
Is anyone else about to begin a cycle? It's my first time, and I'm so excited you'd think I'd conceived already!! So good to finally think we're doing something active to try and get pregnant after all the frustrating tests (we're severe male factor + PCOS and our chances without the boys in the lab are pretty much zilch).
Would love to buddy up with anyone else getting started?
Lots of luck to you all. HI Becky
I too am on first ICSI. We have slight PCOS and v v severe male factor. We have been told our only chance is with surgical sperm retrieval (TESE ) and then ICSI. Overall fairly small chance of it working I think - but you HAVE to try....

Think I am a bit ahead of you - as I hopefully go for ec mid this week. And assuming (please please) they get a couple of sperms then I guess we might have et of week??

really dont know what to expect - for the first time am quite nervous. Think the hardest bit is ahead of us

Feel ok generally - only problem is v bloated tummy! But I always get that pre af anyway - so not MUCH difference. How are you feeling?

If it doesnt work we may have to consider donor - have you thought about that at all??

So pleased the site back - chat soon!
Caz

Hi Dolly, Fi and Caz,
Thanks for your replies! I can only reply at work (tut tut).
Dolly - really sorry to hear about your ectopic. Sniffing tmrw then! I bet you're glad it's here at last. It's nice to have someone so close cyle-wise.
Caz - lots and lots of luck for EC this week. Do hope the sperm play the game! We might consider donor sperm eventually, but we're lucky in that Rob my DH doesn't have to have them surgically removed, and although his count is v low and lots of abnormal forms & rubbish swimmers, the thing to remember is they only need a few good ones!!
No side effects so far for me - am a bit emotional and moody but I think that's more psychological than the drugs. Was pleased how little the injecting hurts though!
Stay in touch girls, lovely to chat to others in similar position.
Sending you good vibes Beck xxx

Hi Beck, glad to hear the injecting is going ok. Yup, sniffing starts tomorrow ... at last.... that must be the longest 3 weeks of my life! But this is just the beginning - and I imagine the next 6 weeks or so will go even slower... aaaarrrggghhhh!!!!

Bags of baby dust for all of us....

Dolly

HI Becky
amazing isnt it - the injection really are ok
Went to the docs today - doing ok I think. They seems to be happy enough. Expect ec on friday - so a bit longer to wait

Thursday dh booked in for sperm retrieval - so i think that'll be the scariest bit actually. Am SO nervous now and feeling v pessimistic.
Embryologist talked to us about donor as a back up (which has made me think they are pessimistic too) - I'm just not really ready for the donor thing I think - but I think its just as well I'm not , as apparently theres a real shortage and so the choice was a bit sparse. God - very weird. I think if it doesnt work with dh's we'll just have to go away and really think about the whole DI thing more carefully. Which we havent REALLY done yet.

Feeling a bit all over the place actuallY! But ok generally

How you all feelin?

Hi Caz,
Try not to worry about the sperm retrieval. I wouldn't be surprised if the embryologist isn't just covering his back. I bet you they find some good ones. I think the donor issue is very difficult - there must be a few girls on here who've been through it though, maybe you could chat with them sometime?
You've only got a couple more days of waiting now - hang on in there.
Is there a known reason why they have to retrieve your DH's sperm surgically?
I'm feeling fine. Which, naturally, had sparked another worry - what if no symptoms mean I'm not down-regging properly?!! I've got PCOS so it can take a long time apparently. I can always find something to stress about!! I just want to get the egg collection out of the way and go on holiday.
Rob's going in to do a sample on Friday as it's a while since the lab saw one. He's a bit nervous in case it's worse, but I feel quite confident for him. Hope I'm right!
Best of luck for the collections on Thurs and Fri - will be thinking of you - post and let us know how it goes. Beck x

HI Becky
thanks for your reply
Just so you know I have PCOS too and had NO symptoms with down regging at all - but it was all ok.
Daily injectiosn are ok too - what drugs are you on? I'm on Purgenon. No real side effect except that I do look pretty bloated!!

Getting v nervy now- dh and I chose a "backp" donor, finally, today. We will freeze any embies that are made with the donor - and use them one day if we have to. I think we both need a bit more time to really make the decision tho. As you say tho HOPEFULLY the brillinet embryologists wont have to use the donor. FINGERS CROSSED!

Whats you timetable now. HOw you feeling generally?

Hi Caz,
Thanks for the reassurance re downregging. Hope I'm the same! think I'd expected to be a total emotional wreck and it's a bit of an anticlimax to just be my 'normal' moody self!
My schedule so far is just to go in for a scan on Tues 8 July, and hopefully start the next lot of drugs then. I'm not sure what they're called! I'll check and tell you next wk. I was warned about bloating too.
Generally I'm feeling pretty okay. I'm trying hard to think positive but be realistic about our chances but the balance is hard to strike! Trying to keep busy and calm . . .
I'm away from work until next Monday now so won't be able to post, but will be thinking of you and will check how you got on next wk - lots of luck again! Beckx
